Which restaurant for a nice, quiet, "unstuffy!" date night?

Ok, so our plans for our upcoming trip keep changing . . . that's really nothing new for us, but they don't usually change this late in the game!

Instead of staying at AKL the full 9 nights of our trip, we are only doing 2 nights AKL CL and staying offsite in a condo with my parents for the remaining week. Since my parents are going to be there DH and I get a "date" night! Woohoo! Now we just need to decide where to go.

The only nice, more adult-oriented restaurant we have eaten at is CG, which we both really enjoyed. The food was wonderful - I had the grilled pork tenderloin with goat cheese polenta and the California Rolls and I still dream about both of them!!! The only complaint I had at all was with the service. I kind of felt as though we were being looked down upon by our server. He came highly recommended by another DISer, so I wasn't expecting that at all, but maybe it was an off-night for him. DH and I are 31 and 32 and really probably look younger than that (or at least we're told), so maybe he thought we were just a bunch of young kids who weren't going to tip well. I don't know . . . but, we did still enjoy our time there because the food and views were just amazing.

So, now that I feel like I've shared my life story with you and this post is getting much longer than I ever anticipated it would :rotfl: , is there somewhere other than CG you would recommend or should we just stick with what we know we like? We don't get out often just the two of us, so I do want to be certain we are going to enjoy ourselves and the food and food quality is very important to me.

Thanks for any input!

So funny you say that. We ate at CG for the first time about 12 years ago (I was 25). We were so excited because we had heard such great things about it. The view truly is awesome and the food is good but all I remember to this day was how the server kept trying to push $150 bottles of wine on us when we really only wanted to spend $50 (max). I will agree that we didn't tell him how much we wanted to spend but come on...$150??? How old do we look to you? Then he looked at us disapprovingly when we didn't order the bottle he recommended.

Anyway, it kind of left a sour taste in our mouths for CG. Having said that, I would try it again, because service aside, it was a nice restaurant.

IMO, you should try Artist Point in the WL. Nice restaurant and somewhat romantic without feeling too pretentious.

Another vote for Artist Point! My DW and I have dined there many times including two big anniversaries (25 and 30). The service has always been outstanding and unpretentious. The food is excellent and it is usually more quiet than other WDW signature retaurants. Ask for a table by the windows for a special treat and view.

Another possibility is Narcoossees. We have had nothing but great experiences there and you have the added advantage of a view of Wishes if you plan the time right. Once again, try for a window table, but you can always go out on the deck to watch the fireworks. :)

Enjoy your "date" night out!!

Jiko, which is located in the AKL, is a wonderful restaurant with tasty and creative food. They also have a good selection of South African wines to choose from. I tend to be a bit of a picky eater and I love Jiko - it's one of our favorite WDW restaurants. :goodvibes

For a night away from the kiddos, my vote goes to Flying Fish (if you like fish) on the Boardwalk.

Great food and service IMO, and you could stroll down the Boardwalk after hit Jellyrolls. :cool1:

We ate at Narcoossee's in Aug. 08 and loved the restaurant. The food was very good and the view was outstanding. It's not exactly the quitest place in the world but it's not overly noisy either. :)

Another vote for Jiko.

The atmosphere of Artist Point was nice and quiet, but overall the food quality and service was very disappointing to both myself and DH. (we had our 10th anniversary dinner there)

Thanks for all the suggestions . . . keep 'em coming!

I forgot that we did dine at Narcoossee's this past September also. We thought the food there was good also - not quite on par with CG, but good.

I just looked at the menu for AP and I don't really see anything that interests me :confused3 . I'm really not a picky eater. I consider myself to be fairly adventurous, but nothing on there is calling my name though the atmosphere of the restaurant does sound wonderful. I may show the menu to DH and see what he thinks.

I hadn't really thought of Flying Fish or Blue Zoo. I'll have to check out those menus. Jiko is one restaurant I have always wanted to try, but since we're staying at AKL two days with the kids I just figured we would want a change of scenery, but maybe I should rethink that!!

Thanks again for all the input!

Citrico's is nice and relatively kid free. Yachtsman Steakhouse is nice, especially if you both like steak. Flying Fish and/or Blue Zoo for seafood. And Il MUlino if you like Italian. JIko is a great place and has the advantage that you don't need to travel to get there
We always have a good time at Flying Fish, eating at the bar, or at the Chef's counter.
