Well, it looks like we may run into some rain during our trip next week... Now, I'm trying to determine if the AK or MGM would be best to visit on a rainy day? Any suggestions are appreciated! ::yes::

I think it depends on whether you actually try to stay dry, or accept the rain and dress accordingly?.. my vote would be for MGM if the only alternative was AK, as there are very few indoor/covered attractions at AK. Should keep the crowds down for you, anyway!

Since so much of AK is outdoors, i would vote for MGM too between those two choices. I think Epcot is the best rainy day park; most of the attractions are indoors, except test track.

Unfortunately, we already have our CP dining packages for 11/29 at Epcot. When we return from our cruise on 12/4, we will then finish up the rest of the parks. I was hoping to do MK on Saturday, since it will be open all day (& we have CRT ressies that morning!). So, that leaves me with AK & MGM.

MGM is probably the better of the 2, as you say, there aren't alot of places to hide out during the rain in AK!

Thanks everyone!

During my last trip (November 2002), we only had 3 days. We had gorgeous cool sunny weather for our days in MK and Epcot. It just threw down rain for the first half of the day at MGM.
We poncho'd up and had a wonderful time.

Every time I visit MGM it rains. seriously. Anyway, I have also been miserably stuck in the rain at AK and from experience I can tell you that between the two - MGM wins hands down for rain.

Some will tell you that the animals come out in the rain, etc at AK so go in the rain. . .not worth it.

So I've been thinking about this braving the rain and wearing a poncho.. but I'm wondering what to do with it when you are ready to get on a ride. If people wore them on the rides, obviously the seats would all get wet. But do you actually shake them out and fold them up before every ride?

Sorry if this question seems silly, but I've never been to WDW in the rain.

disneyfan551 - We only go to MK on rainy days, even if we have already been there during our stay. In our opinion, it is the best park in the rain because the attractions are packed in tight. Its easy to dart from one to the next without spending much time in the open.

I know a lot of people swear by Epcot in the rain, but it has just a handful of pavillions that are pretty far apart, so you get soaked going from one to the other.

TammyC - Yes, people do keep their ponchos on and yes, the seats do get wet. Such is life. Depending on the attraction, I'll leave my poncho on if its a quick ride like Snow White, but I'll take it off and roll it up if its a longer ride or sit down show like Little Mermaid. We carry a backpack into the parks and we'll just shove them all in there when we're not using them.

I've always found that MGM is the best rainy day park. Most attractions are indoors, including the queues. But do take either an umbrella or rain poncho for "ducking" between raindrops. And remember to splash in puddles. That's lots of fun! Bring a dry rag to wipe off benches of outdoor theaters. Nothing worse than a wet tushie!

Last December (first week), Orlando had record rains (like inches in a day). On one of those days we were at AK and LOVED it. The safari ride was fantastic with all the running/standing water from the rain. (I think we did it four or five times) The animals seemed to enjoy the rain. On top of that, the park was pretty empty. Plus the rain seemed to add to the AK theming.

So if you are looking to stay dry I wouldn't pick AK. But if you are looking for a different experience I would go to AK

We did AK Wed. the 19th in the rain. We wore our ponchos all afternoon and we did get wet BUT we had the park to ourselves!!! By far we had the best Safari ever. There was no line so the driver was not in a hurry. We stopped to see the animals. There were MANY animals out, many right by the truck. It was a really nice experience. No lines anywhere. We did not see any shows or walk the trails and were in the park from about 11 to about 3:30. We road everything at least 2 times and saw several Characters. We then went to Rainforest Cafe for a nice dry late lunch and then off to shop downtown.

In my experience Epcot is the best rainy day park since you do spend a lot of time in most of the attractions like the land and sea.

If my choice were AK or MGM, I would say MGM, there is also a good amount of indoor things there. AK is outside a lot and it is humid enough there without the rain.
