I have a friend who named their kid William. Instead of Will, they call him Liam.

I also like Jack. Dh never liked Jack, and I lost that in our name battle! :rotfl:

Out of our two boys names, I would think that Carter sounds the most strong and distinguished. Although, I love the name Cayden. It's fun loving. Both names fit my boys personalities perfectly.

Our son Carter, his middle name is Scott, after family.

We also considered Carter James.

Good luck!:thumbsup2

We have a John Douglas (FIL is John, DH's middle name is John), but we call him Jack.

I have a 2 John's but I love Gabe! LOVE IT!

I will say that the most EVIL guy I've ever met was Marty so I hate that name, LOL!

Elton John... :rotfl2:

Okay....
I also like John as a first name....

I do not know if I like the cadence of the two-syllable names followed by John as a middle name...

I think a three or more syllable goes well with John as a middle name...
I know you do not want to go with Nathanial John...but the cadence rings better to my ears!

How about Jonathan???

Jonathan Gabriel B.... (he would have to go by his first name to avoid the B-B issue)

John Everett B....

I think is also neet to think out of the box for names that are unique... but not strange and pretentious.... Shortened forms of a traditional name...
Examples...

"Val" Kilmer
"Tay" Diggs

I'm married to a Patrick, and let me just go along with what others have said-DO NOT, DO NOT call him Pat! He grew up hating that, finally "changed it" at school when he didn't speak up when teachers asked if he wanted to be called something else, but his family still calls him Pat. There are 2 females from my side called Pat, and it's really weird to me. Add that to the character on SNL. It's just not good. DH does not like being called Pat, and really only tolerates it from immediate family who have only known him as that.

You could still use John as the first name and it won't be a junior.

How about John Andrew?

I understand the middle name thing --my DS's middle name is DH's name, William. His full name is Ryan William. As a teacher I had a heck of a time with names because of negative associations with students. I have never, EVER had a bad kid named Ryan. They are usually sweet as pie. Ryan means "Little King".
If you want to stay with John, could you consider a variation, like Sean or Ian? My BIL is Sean Patrick.
I think Gabe B_____ will have issues with the "B" sounds running together. Don't just picture the name on an office door, imagine the teacher saying it on the first day! "Gabe Benson". It sounds like "Gay Benson". Kids might have a field day with that.
Thomas John is nice but reminds me of Tommy John, the baseball pitcher. If you like baseball, though, that is a good thing.
Robin M.

Cullen is a great name for a boy.

I like the Thomas John- I have a Frank Thomas; my dad is a Thomas.

Thomas is my favorite, but I really, really dislike the nickname TJ. Thomas, Tom, and Tommy are great.

I wouldn't do "Gabe" if your last name starts with a "B". I had a friend who had one of those names and everyone always ran them together and yelled it. Nobody was making fun of him - it was just fun to do. But it bugged the hell out of him.

I like Tommy and Patrick. :)

I agree, especially since it would make it sound like "Gay" Lastname (Gabe Brown would sound like Gay Brown) and you know how middleschoolers are. :sad2: I do like Gabriel, though. Is Gideon too weird for you? I love it.

I second "Timothy John" with TJ as his nickname

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to control what knicknames the child will have. You may opt to call him something in particular, but once he hits school, it's out of your hands.

we did our kids w/ our first names as their middle names, and i'm glad i did it. gives them a piece of us, but no juniors to be confusing. (ryan michael and erin elizabeth). SO, i like Ryan John a lot.

what about nicholas john... i know a nicholas and they call him Cole instead of Nick. I like that.

and congratulations!!!

I like traditional names as well as some that aren't quite as traditional. I have always liked the name, Miles, it was at the top of my list.

I also like:

Austin
Brody
Brice
Byron
Dallas
Dillon
Dominick
