Ok So I am finally going to WDW in May. I have a nikon D50. I have 3 different lenses but I don't know which one to take. I have an 18-55 and a 55-200, and I also have a 70-300. I like to get my subjects closer, so the 18-55 doesn't do it for me, the 70-300 sometimes is too close if taking candid shots of the kids, and I haven't used the 55-200 enough to make an opinion yet. I could alwayls get a new lens if needed, but don't know what to get. What would be the best all arounf lens to have in diisney?
Thank for your help.

If you only want to take 1 lens then the 18-135mm or 18-200mm, depending on how much you wanted to spend. I am sure there are others, too.

If you're not going to buy a new lens then I'd suggest your 15-55 and the 55-200.
I keep a Nikon 18-200VR and a Sigma 30mm in my park bag. They cover a good range and all lighting situations. I do bring other lenses to play around with but they stay in the room bag until I need them.

My first consideration would be do the 55-200 and 75-300 both have VR? If so, you'll have to consider if the added weight of the 75-300 is worth the extra 100mm of reach. IMO, you'll be using the 18-55 most of the time anyways (as Disney World is more of a wide place to shoot), we only used our telephoto lenses for 1 day at AK and for shooting around the AKL. I would take the 75-300 for the occasions you'll need a long lens - you'll appreciate having the 100mm on the long end more than you'll miss not having coverage from 55-70mm.

At WDW wider is better and I really don't see a need for anything longer than 200mm, so my recommendation would be your 18-55 and the 55-200. If you are going to shoot the dark rides then something 30mm 1.4-1.8 is good. Many people like the Sigma 30mm f1.4. It's a lens that I will purchase for my next trip. If you are going to shoot the fireworks then invest in a travel tripod and some type of remote ( I use wireless). Almost any lens will work for the fireworks, remember wider is better. On my last trip, I brought my 100-300 and I only attempted to use once (safari ride) and it wasn't as successful as I had hoped.

thank you this surely helps, I will look into the sigma 30m F1.4 but it will depend on costs, other wise it looks like like18/55 will do!!

I want to chime in here for a sec. I picked up the Sigma 18-250 for under $400 used from B&H just before our trip last month and it never left my camera. I like to zoom also but I got some pretty good shots of my kids sitting next to me on the rides also that were priceless in my opinion. Eventually, I'd like to go wider for things like that to say an 8 or 10mm but not just yet. Granted the 18-250 weighs about 1 1/2 lbs but with a decent strap and no camera bag to lug around, I didn't even notice it.

I rarely change lenses at WDW opting just for my 30mm. I can always zoom in with my feet, but I find it harder to zoom out with my feet and get the right composition.

Basically I am saying that I would make sure I have something that will give you a wider angle. A UWA has moved to the top of my wishlist.

18-55 , although not high quality, always makes me happy :)

If you are looking for something for indoors, no flash, the 35mm 1.8 is under $200 and is small enough to stick in a small bag.
