Which kitchen do you like better?

Hehe, I have 13 votes for kitchen 1 and 12 for kitchen 2!

:lmao: :confused3

Well, let me even it up for you at 13 each! I prefer kitchen #2.

Since it is 13 for light and 12 for dark -- then I'll make it more interesting!! My vote is for the darker cabinet. I think it looks nicer - but again, what is in the rest of the house? And another vote for darker cabinets, but lighter colors on the wall.

So now its tied - 13/13. Now what are ya gonna do???? :teeth:

ETA: OK - LoriKay beat me to it! My vote is still for the second kitchen!

Here's some other things to keep in mind:

Lighter cabinets - more versatile in color schemes, more inviting, less likely to show scratches, will coordinate with many different types of countertops.

Darker cabinets - "richer" looking, more modern. Looks good with stainless. More likely to show scratches and surface wear. Limited in the color schemes you use in your kitchen.

You know my vote is for lighter, just wanted to point out some of the advantages! Along with a dark color on the walls, you could also use stainless for a more modern look, and darker window treatments. Lighting is also important - I don't like the dim lighting in the second photo! I also grew up in house with dark cabinets, so that's probably why I'm partial to lighter colors. Like a previous poster said, who cares what looks "rich" or not? Rich looking doesn't always equal better looking! :) All in all, go with whatever makes you feel happiest!

Okay.........I'm going with number one, even though it is not as stylish.

I live in the Pacific Northwest where it is dark and rainy most of the winter, so I think I need the light!

Also, I worry the dark will clash with the white molding.

And I don't have to buy a new fridge.

I don't want stainless steel because I'm not the best housekeeper and they are harder to keep clean.

And, with the dog and kids, I worry about scratches on the darker ones.

Thanks for all the points.

I think that the problem is that the cabinets in the first picture look oak and I'm not fond on the white refrigerator. But since you said that the cabinets are light cherry, I would go for that, IF the quality of the cabinets is good. Cheap light cherry can look very stripey. I've seen light cherry with a cream island and it was WOW! I esp. love one granite for the island and another plainer granite for the counters.

I would go for #1 if the cherry was a very good quality cherry but lose the white refrig. Cover the refrig in the light cherry or go for stainless. If you can't afford the best quality cabinets, go for option #2. It's easier to stain darker and all the cabinets will be the same color.

OK, fellow Northwesterner here.

Go with the lighter. The darker will make the Seattle winters seem very long! Especially if the lighter are cherry. Cherry darkens over time, so after 2-3 years they will be noticably darker.

I have lighter cabinets with a black/stainless granite and stainless appliances. I love the combination. I think if you go lighter on the cabinets you need to go darker on the counter. We had originally picked out a light granite and it was too monitone.

Also, all of my furniture is dark/cherry. I love the combination of the light cabinets and dark furniture.

I have light (honey maple) cabinets and stainless steel appliances. My counter tops are sand corian. I like light open rooms, hence my choice of wall color. My kitchen opens up to my family room which has cherry furniture. Here is a pic of my kitchen...hope is helps.

I Ours is ceramic and flush with the counter and it just looks so easy for someone to accidentally touch a hot burner, especially after they've been turned off but are still cooling down.

What I thought you were going to say is, .........especially after they've been drinking... :rotfl2: Yet again, my eyes play tricks on me!!!

I like the first one, the second is too dark.

Your kitchen is so cheerful! I love it!!

I like the lighter cabinets. Maybe it is the computer picture, but that other room looks soo dark.

Oh My God, that's my kitchen without the island - it actually scared me a bit.

My corian is called Prairie it has a tiny tiny hint of green to it; didn't know when we picked it out in the showroom, then when it was installed I was appalled, but after about an hour, I fell in love with it.

One other difference in our kitchen, where you have your toaster over, I have my stainless coffeemaker and where your napkin holder is is where I have the stainless toaster over.

I just looked at the photo again - are those porcelian floor tiles? I have the same color.....this is freaky.

OP, sorry for the hijack

Im not sure if you mean my kitchen but yes I have ceramic tile. The color is called caymen and they are 16 x 16 in. The grout is a ever so slight rosey/maurvish color. Im always re-arranging my kitchen counter tops. I'm looking at SS toaster ovens. I can not decide which I want but mine sure stands out right now.

I like the darker ones but I'm finding that the older I get the more difficult it is to see in a darker room. I'd go for the lighter.

Yes it is your kitchen that we share :sunny:. my tiles are 16x16, my grout matches my counter tops. I have the black and decker toaster oven, nothing special, I like the size. I like your taste

the bottom-I think it looks 'richer" and I like the stainless steel appliances.

Definitely the first one. Have fun deciding!
