Which kitchen do you like better?

I like number 2 better. Because I have 5 kids and darker is always better. ( cant see the finger prints on the wall as much :lmao: )

Oh for crying out loud! We all know you're buying a bigger house. A more expensive house. I don't think anyone here is going to accuse you of being cheap. Buy what you like, you're the one who's going to have to live with it.

someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today

My vote is for the first one (lighter cabinets). Dark does look "richer", but to me feels more sterile. The first seems very warm and inviting. I chose lighter cabinets in my house for the very same reason - in fact they look similar to #1. You can always do a dark color on the walls to "richen" in up. I painted a brick red to contrast the lighter cabinets and white appliances. It looks very nice! Question though - can they do the island in the same wood as the cabinets, or does it have to be white?
I agree. I like #1 better because it seems "brighter" to me. More welcoming in my opinion.

I like the second one too! The first looks like oak and the second looks like a cherry or maple wood. Both those have a "richer" look to them than the oak. If you don't like the dark look of the second one, can you get a lighter stain? Friends of ours just did their kitchen in a medium color cherry wood that looks really nice but isn't too dark.

I like #1. I agree that light and airy and inviting is better than "rich" looking.

Why should the kitchen "look" rich? You can actually BE rich in either kitchen! LOL!!!

Hehe...good point.

Thanks guys. The light are not oak, they are cherry, just stained lighter.

I have mostly dark furniture, but it is casual, so I have no idea!

And gorgeous kitchen, Mercy!

Take into account what other wood finishes and colors can be seen from the kitchen. It's nice to have things "flow" and not clash when colors can be seen from other rooms. When they co-ordinate well it gives an overall feeling of spaciousness. Choosing many different colors and finishes tends to sometimes give a chopped up feeling to the house. Personally I like the darker finish better, but I would select based on other woods nearby.

Keep in mind that real cherry will darken over time with exposure to light.

I need to pick cabinets for the house.

I liked the second one

Ours are maple with a very light stain. The type of wood makes a big difference in the look of the cabinets, due to the graining of different woods.

Thanks! My cabinets are maple w/a chestnut stain. My kitchen is actually lighter looking than in the picture. Remember good lighting is key.

Look around on this site here and you will see many different examples of kitchens, both light and dark. Check it out and get a feel for what appeals to you most.

I guess I am in the minority, but I like #2 better. It has a more richer look and I prefer the stainless appliances as well.

I agree, and if you had a lighter colour on the walls that might help.

I actually would do the lights in the frist picture with the cabinets and stainless appliances in the second picture.

That is true...we can't afford the wood molding (nor do we really like it) so all the molding will be white. I wonder if that will clash

Both are beautiful but I like the second (darker) cabinets/appliances better.
