Which is your fav OKW building/room?

New to the boards.......
Been a DVC Member (OKW) for about 6 years now.
I like any kind of water view and so far building 45 is perhaps my favorite. It's got a wonderfully private and beautiful view of the canal/waterway, yet it's only about a 7min walk to the Hosp House. We also really like #43 in the Turtle Pond area, but that's a bit farther from the Hosp House (maybe a 10 min walk ?). But a great water view.

Yep. 45 is beautiful. I'm picturing it right now. Nice. The only thing someone might not like about it is that you can see buses. In a beautiful landscape though. But the overall view more than makes up for that........

We like building 35 which is in the Turtle Pond area. Its near the quiet pool and the bus stop, but still secluded so that you can relax.

Hi Lisa,
We couldn't see the busses from our 2 bedroom ? We were sort of in the middle of the bldg, so maybe that made a difference ? Our view was strictly the canal below. We got to see all the boat rentals and the DVC ferry going back and forth to DD. I'm thinking maybe an end unit would be able to see the busses ? We only stayed in that bldg one time.

Good to know. Our living room window was a gorgeous view of the road and the canal leading up to the main area and the buses travelling on through.... Yes, it was an end unit....well sort of the studio was technically the end. I suppose most have that view with the design and that my suite's location probably blocked the road/buses from mid suites. Because I just realized I could only see them when at the far end of the unit. The balcony door/window was straight canal.

I was there in a one bedroom on a two family trip of 13 (in many units!!!) that we put together and most were at SSR. I have this wonderful photo of a small group jumping up on the suite balcony and waving to another group of us coming up to meet each other on the DVC ferry. My sister ignored the "must be sitting at all times". Sister and picture and memories...priceless!

It didn't bother me one bit. Buses. Gorgeous. Looked like a post card. I just don't want anyone to get that room and say, "well there is the bus. How is this peaceful?". Too much thinking on my part!!!!

I love OKW.

LOL.....totally understand ! That photo sounds like a keeper :thumbsup2 Sounds like you all had a great stay.

OK - I'm closing in on it!

Non-smoking
Dedicated 2BD
Building 30 or higher (thanks for the tip on the extra bathroom door!)
2nd or 3rd floor
Near a pool (that should put us in either South Pointe or Turtle Pond - right?)
And, if they can do it - Canal View? (I'm not much of one for golf.)

How many requests to I get? Hum, maybe I need more refinement? Is there another view besides Golf or Canal?

Only 17 more days till I can make my ressie! (And some folks only countdown till they actually go.... :lmao: )

You totally missed one. :lmao: I scan the "OKW configuration post" for GVs. (really I have a life) And stay away from asking for those units b/c people like Diane give such valuable information about hardwood floors.

And Diane thanks for the extra door into the washroom info. When visiting my friends in #19 I went into the laundry room to go to the bathroom and thought I was going crazy.

Honestly you know what I think works best with OKW/SSR especially. I give very few requests. Usually just a floor or an area (only if I know it). Then at check in I try to have map, coded map, with me. Often, if I'm early in the morning the CM gives me a possible room (most of the time two choices) and at that point, with the map I'm able to narrow it down (no GVs, no outer area etc)

That is how I got 4525. I didn't ask for much. The CM gave me options and I saw that 45 faced the canal on the map and "voila". Just my thoughts.

Have a wonderful trip.

I figured asking for the 2nd or 3rd floor I was safe from getting under a GV. ;)

Where do I get this magic coded map? Inquiring minds want to know... :cool2:

We won't be there early - flying in from west coast - but our friends are from FL and can check in nice and early.

Thanks!

Hi,

... The CM alluded that OKW, and maybe most DVCs, are going the way of Disneyland. Which I think is smoke free, yes? ...

Yes. The state of CA is nearly smoke free. It's not an easy place to be if you smoke. My guess is that Disneyland will have to have designated smoking spots and they'll have to be 50 ft from any building.

Though, I could be wrong. I don't keep up with it since I'm not a smoker.

I'm so feeble with posting and the computer that I can't post the link. If you look in my post in Mousecellaneous (new smoking information...) the new coded map is posted there.

Also, plug in OKW building configuration summary into the search and you will get a detailed look at the buidings. Webmaster Doc did tons of work to put this together.

Maybe some skilled person could post the link??

You're right about the GVs and the 2/3rd floor request. Totally. But it might not cover it. Say for example you ask for two building suggestions or area and then 2/3rd floor and they think "okay we have their buidling but on the 1st floor only so that's a good one 1/2 requests". So you could be under a GV. That's why I make maybe one maybe two requests at OKW and have the map at check in just to make sure. Or only request the #s that don't have GVs. I love hanging out in my room. So for some GV no big deal. But for me....yes.

I went back and updated the coded map of OKW that I had made awhile back based on the new "smoking" information. Here's the new map - hope that it helps!

Unless your kids are monkeys, they probably wont be enticed to climb the railings of the balcony. Do NOT let them do that, since OKW goes to great effort to keep folks off the golf course and from behind villas. The vegetation is helpful for that.

Anyone who's afraid of their kids taking off in back of the villas at OKW, tell them this true story. One morning we were drinking coffee on our balcony when a tree about 25 feet tall spontaneously fell down with a mighty crash. No one was near it fortunately, or who knows the damage/injury. The management said it was probably hurricane damaged, but there hadn't been a hurricane in a few months. Pretty scary! BTW, that happened in back of our favorite building (except for that experience), #15.

THanks for that map! Has anybody been in bldgs 11-14, do you have any favorite 1 bedrooms?

I'm now thinking of the roast beef au jus sandwich you can get from Olivia's....

Gary -
What an awesome map! Thanks. I've saved it off in my hard drive folder for the vacation. Looking at your map I realize that the last/only time we stayed we were in building 49 - since we were in a GV. That makes more sense based on my memories of "no-pool nearby".

Looks like "canal view" gets me buildings that are GV-free.

Many thanks!!

Over the past 15 years, I have stayed in several fabulous and not so fablous rooms. I really believe that my recent trip this past December/January I hit the jackpot. We had room 1614 and there were a number of reasons why I will remember to ask for this room again when we return..

1> close to Hospitality for my older teens to hang out, work out, and play buckets.

2. away from bus noise

3. first floor (I absolutely love being on first floor)

4. the deck was on the back side of a green and a pond (fabulousviews of the entire fairway from tee shot all the way up the the green in the back of the deck)

5. Views of MGM and Pleaure Island fireworks

6. No smoking room

I only wish the weather would have cooperated :sad2:

Our first trip we were in building 11, have tried without success to get back since then!

Loved it!

No bus noise, easy stroll to HH and everything!

I want it so badly, drool.....

Thanks for updating the map! I'll change it in my favorites too!

I think we were in building 16 when we stayed at OKW before we purchased. I haven't been able to get back since then either. I LOVE the views from that building, and you actually have a choice of bus stop...either HH or Miller's Road.

We liked building 13 as well, and building 15 when we stayed in the GV, but didn't care for the 1st floor room in that building.
