Where's the deal with SW?

After all that waiting and checking my computer 50 times a day, SW finally puts out their rated past Aug 3 and then I found that SW's cheapest rates are still higher than Jet Blue! So, I bit the bullet and just booked with Jet Blue. It cost $1028. for 4 roundtrip direct flights (which is the highest we have ever paid) from Boston to MCO. Do you think that with gas going so high, that there is really going to be any huge savings for August? I hope I didn't make a mistake! I just couldn't take the pressure anymore and wanted to get our flights booked and paid for-please someone, anyone reassure me and tell me I did the right thing! Patty

I got tired of waiting for SW so I booked w/ AWA. They have N/S PHX-MCO and back again. I got 8 tickets for $1900. I booked Sept. 16-23. When I looked at SW's prices for the first sat. to the 2nd sat. in Sept.....the price was almost $350 each!! I'm glad I went ahead and booked w/ AWA.

the thing I like about SW is if the prices go down I can get a credit for furture use...

Patty,
We booked with SWA today for the same reason you booked with Jetblue-"couldn't take the pressure anymore and wanted to get our flights booked and paid for!"On SWA out of TF Greene (PVD) , we paid about the same as you did. Obviously more than we wanted to pay :faint: (especially since we had to purchase NINE RT tickets!) DH and I are just happy to have it booked and paid for. Higher airfare but with free dining at WDW...still came in under our original budget. Just glad it is all a "done deal." :thumbsup2

I know I might sound like a broken record, but as I have stated on other similar threads, I just don't think with the high fuel costs we are going to see cheap airfares in the forseeable future. And I'm right there with you, as we fly every year from Indy to Orlando and will do so again next January. Just have to save up some more cash to pay for the airfare. :rolleyes2

We just bit the bullet and booked with SWA too (Hartford to MCO) today when the dates opened up. I could have booked out of Providence for a little less but I wasn't too happy with the available flight times for the nonstops. We're paying $260 each r/t, but they're nonstops, and they're perfect flight times for our schedule. And if a DING fare comes out, like zurgswife said, I'll just grab the DING and use the credits for another trip. At least we have SOMETHING. Definitely never paid this much before!! I think the low fares will be harder to come by from now on.

For the past 2 years we've gotten the $39 fare from Nashville to MCO. The catch is that both years the special hasn't come out until July. So we just have the attitude if we can't get the fare then we'll drive. But the drive isn't as bad for us as it is for others. So I'm hoping we can catch that same deal or something close to it.

We booked the 8:10 am out of PVD with a return flight at 5:25 pm out of MCO (both nonstop) Just happy it is booked and paid for! ;)

I initially tried to get that, but I when I went to book it, it disappeared, so I assume you got the last seats!! :thumbsup2 (good for you!!) I shouldn't have paused to grab my wallet...it pays to memorize that CC number! But we're booked, and that in and of itself is a big relief...almost worth the extra $$. :teeth:

Well, I slept on my decision and am now confident that I did the right thing.
If we went with SW we would have had to drive an hour north of us the night before, got a hotel room because of the 7 am flight and the no-reserved seats, then we would have had to find a place to leave our car for a week which could cost God only knows what and then the worst part would be the drive back home during rush hour traffic when we are all tired and cranky. Even if we got a ding I think with all the add ons it would have come out even time & money wise. I still think this is going to be a horrible summer travel wise due to the huge increase in fuel.

i dont think you will lower fares either
we did jetblue to as they were cheaper than SW and if the fare goes down you get a credit good for a year
so.... but it was more than year

I am reading more and more here that people are booking SW at the higher prices due to free dining and knowing they will get a credit. I said it on other threads, if we do that, then why would SW lower prices? If they are getting people to book at the higher rates, why lower the price??

I think you did the right thing going with JetBlue. Much more comfortable than flying SW with assigned seats, seatback tvs, and a lot more convenient than driving to Providence or Manchester if you live in the Boston area.

I agree that if you are planning to fly this summer, you should not delay in getting your tickets NOW.
