Just in case DVC reads these boards, I thought we might try to plant some ideas in their heads.
Perhaps at another Disney Resort Hotel? How about Disneyland? Maybe another off-site DVC? If so, what city?

I vote for The Poly, and would purchase a minimum of 500 points instantly!

What are your thoughts?

I'm all for having a DVC property on the west coast, mostly because I'm from California and we could save on air fare. That said, we've had this type of thread in the past, and I haven't seen any movement from Disney regarding building on the west coast, but we can always be hopeful. :)

Animal Kingdom...my wife and I would buy in a second.
The only thing I really miss about using DVC is waking up in the morning to animals outside my balcony.

....then just stay at an All Stars :-)

Gracey I like Poly, but where could they possibly put it ?

I have pushed on a couple threads for "Polynesian Villas". There is some space available between Poly and GF. Without sending in surveyors it's hard to say whether it's adequate or not. But given how fast Poly Villas would sell, I would think they would make every effort, including (if necessary) relocating the Wedding Pavilion and/or the GF Health Club, and filling in a small portion of the lake. And I'm not convinced these steps would be necessary. A big issue is how close the monorail is to the lake, but remember the monorail is pretty close to the lake everywhere, including at the current Poly and GF!

The "Polynesian Villas" would definitly be my vote.

I think if Disney wanted to, they could MAKE room. If they changed the way that Seven Seas Lagoon Dr. entered by the raceway, and built on the current parking lot by the TTC and I believe its the Tahiti bld. Moved some other things around, etc.,etc.,...they have 42 miles of FLA. to work with. Minus whats already built.

In Route of the monorail would be a big +.

Southern Texas would be just a days drive for me.
The gulf coast, near or at Destin, Florida is also a days drive and a wonderful beach.
Disney land wold be nice also.
I like the Poly theme.
Animal Kingdom would also get my points.
Add the monorail to any of the above choices and I am diffinately buying more points. Especially if its a monorail from Texas or Destin to Magic Kingdom. But aimagine the maintenence fees for the monorail from Texas to Florida.

I have never been to Castaway (or southen Texas) it looks beautiful on the cruise line video.

I better stop here or I will go on all night.

Castaway Cay would get my vote. What a spot that would be for a DVC!
This was actually discussed quite some time ago in another thread. While on the surface this would seem neat, it is not practical for the following reasons:

Transportation to and from the island.
Electricity, only available by generators. Air Conditioning would not be practical, or very expensive at least.
Insects are bad at night time
Getting supplies to the island and refuge disposal becomes expensive.
After a couple of days, the novelty of the island would wear off. Aside from swimming at the beach, or riding a bicycle around, there wouldn't be much else to do. Or anywhere else to go

In fact, any DVC resort outside of the Disney theme park areas would be in competition with all the other numerous resorts around the world. Just look at the time it has taken selling VB and HH.

DVC works at WDW, and in my opinion would probably work at DL also. Anywhere else is a big financial gamble.

Tinkerbell,

I think water access would be important for a Polynesian Villas. There is at least 1/4 mile of unused beachfront between Poly and GF, which should be enough for a couple or three lagoon view longhouses. I'm thinking maybe 200 units like VWL. If they can fit more in, great.

beachfront between Poly and GF

Hey guys, I'm building my GF DVC on that property. ;)

I think offsite DVCs are dead for the foreseeable future but if we're dreaming, I'd love to see one on the Jersey Shore, NYC or Las Vegas. I don't think they'll ever build near a casino but it would be nice....maybe they could one day negotiate a Concierge Collection deal with a casino hotel. A Disneyland DVC also doesn't seem unreasonable....maybe that will happen.

PamOKW- Wasn't it Werner Weiss who had the big report about Disney owning a very large parcel of land 20 min. S. of Disneyland, and then sold it off to Marriot or some other hotel timeshare. That would have been a great place for a Disneyland DVC.

PamOKW, You can use the swampland to the north of GF; you know, where they store the EWP boats. ;)

Poly villas!!!Put me down for 500 points! Maybe they could redo some of the buildings there for some villas.

Yes, we were all expecting the Newport, CA DVC. They also presented plans to build one in Times Square. I thought that might have happened when Disney got into the theater business and helped with the restoration of the area. The dropping of these two plans and the decision not to build out Vero seem to indicate that expansion outside of Disney-owned property isn't going to happen any time soon. Disneyland and Disney Paris seem like to only two remote possibilities for new DVC's not at WDW.

At Disneyland in California, the problem is a lack of room. If Disney had wanted to build a DVC resort there, I think that it would have been planned as part of the recent transformation of "Disneyland" into the "Disneyland Resort," including the new theme park, Downtown Disney, and Grand Californian Resort hotel. But I'll grant you that a DVC resort at Disneyland remains a possibility.

At Disneyland Paris, an on-site timeshare resort is being built by Marriott, not Disney. And announcement of this project starts at http://www.vacationclub.com/ and continues with a nice drawing and a lot more information on another page. It looks great. According to the article, "Creating the atmosphere of the French countryside with fabrics and artwork accenting garden prints of Impressionist painters, each villa will offer a golf course view along with a master suite featuring a soaking tub and two vanities, fully-equipped kitchen and dining area, living room with fireplace, washer/dryer and patio." I don't think we'll ever see DVC at Disneyland Paris.

I heard (via rumor) from a Disney Store cast member that Disney had been trying to get the contract for the new timeshare property going in on the grounds of Big Cedar Lodge in the Branson area (Ridgedale, MO). Supposedly Big Cedar went to its regulars and asked what they thought of Disney (and other companies) coming in as part of it.

Evidently the folks there didn't want what Disney could bring with it (fanatics like us?) and they steered away from Disney and gave it to some other company.

Now THAT would have been a fun resort!

As for other locations, I would LOVE to see more off-site stuff. HH is awesome (and I think any slowness--not sure if that's a word--selling there is probably in part because people have NO CLUE how awesome that place is unless they've been there).

I would vote for Disney building its own DVC place in the Branson area...supposedly it is the "number 1 drive-to vacation spot in the country" and atleast one timeshare resort in that area uses the fact that Disney 0wns a chunk of land in that area as a selling point for them!
