Where to transfer digital pictures???

I would be willing to pay the extra to get my pictures on CD and know that they are on there, just to be sure I have enough memory cards and I dont have to worry about how many pictures I have left. I take alot of pictures and I dont want to miss a thing. :wave2:

There are Walgreens EVERYWHERE down there! I used 3: 1 near POP - by the Gaylord Palms, another near Crossroads/DTD and when I got lost, I kept finding one in Kissimmee. Seriously, they are everywhere! It just depends on where you are staying! ;)

If you are not renting a car, is the only place at WDW where they can transfer digital photos over to a cd is ak MK? Do any of the other parks have photos places that do this?

I'm pretty sure that Epcot has a photo center around the Imagination area. You may even check with your hotel and see if they have any send-out options that may interest you.

Another alternative though somewhat pricey is a portable hard drive with card readers built in. I have an X-Drive II that I travel with. I don't have to carry a laptop and can transfer to the home PC when I get back home. It's also an other geek gadget! Here's a link to some information I recently stumbled across...

We've considered buying a new laptop, mostly just to download photos to. How much do those devices usually run?

I see them for about $200 to $300 for basic units with a hard drive installed. This was on EBay. You can select the HD size or put in whatever you want yourself but they will cost more the bigger the drive. They are about $100 to $150 without an HD.

How many pictures can you get on your storage device? That depends on your setting.

My camera goes up to 5.0 megapixels. I tend to use the 4.2 megapixel setting. It's very high quality but gives me just a bit more space than the 5.0 setting. On my 128M memory stick I can get 30-40 pics.

A setting of 2.0 megapixels would let me store 60-80 pics.

When we were at WDW last August 2003, I checked out the self-serve photo machine in the Kodak center on Main Street. It was around $12 like previously mentioned in this thread.

I figured Wal-greens or some place had to be cheaper. When we got back to the hotel I went to Wal-greens to transfer the pics. It was about $20. Of course that included prints.

I don't know if they've come down on their price since then. I read where someone said you could get it done for $4. I'll have to check that out before I decide where to transfer my pics next time.

Are you sure? I get 400 on my 68mb card when its at 2.0 mp.

I'll have to check the user manual that came with my camera.

It also takes digital movies. I usually have a 30 seconds or so of my DD on the stick in addition to pics.

I know movies are memory hogs, but maybe there much more of a hog than I realized.

Thanks

Walgreens is 3.99 for a cd, and I believe .29 per photo developed. If you get 50+ photos, I think the price dropped to .20 each! And, as I said before, their developing quality was outstanding! I can't even go to the Super Walmart or Sam's Club anymore, because Walgreens was 10x better in quality!! :D

I have a 2.1 megapixels camera. I have 1 128 mb memory stick, a 4 mb stick and 32 b stick. New camera to me so I dont know too much more about it. I think that I will still invest ina 256 mb stick just to top it off.

With a 3.3 megapixel camera set to highest quality and fine resolution (2048 x 1536) I can fit just about 160 pictures on a 256MB card. Images, depending on what you are shooting, will vary in size from about 1.5MB to about 4MB. I can also shoot 30 seconds of basic video with sound wich will hit about 8MB.

Hey, Dh and I were just wondering about this last night. We're new to digital cameras and really should read our manual before we go.

If we choose to get our pics downloaded onto a cd at Walmart, or where ever, can we order prints at the same time? It would be much cheaper to mail them from the US to family then mailing them from the Caribbean.

Thanks.::MinnieMo

Yes, you can order prints at the same time. The only bad thing is it eats away at your "Disney time"! ;) (that is, if you have to edit photos, like I do!) At most places, you can pick them up in an hour, but I just usually go back the next day for them.

 Thanks disneyfan551

I'm going to try convincing dh to buy a better program for photo editting while we're in the US.

Any recommendations?

Sandy Feet- you can download your photos from your memory card and order photos at Walmart at the same time. I just did some this weekend. You can choose to print the whole memory card or pick and choose which ones you want to print off. They are .20 a picture to print and I think the CD is 3.99. It was really easy to do. This would be much easier for you to send photos by e mail I agree:teeth:

Sandy Feet-there is a morcosoft program that is suppose to be great for the editing of photos, getting any red eye out or fixing color problems and things like that-its call Picture It. I have seen it at Staples for about $59.00. I have not got it yet for myself but have heard alot of good things about it. :sunny:

Adobe Photoshop is a great one. The full blown Photoshop is expensive and does far more than most might use. Look for Photoshop Album, which organizes and does basic manipulation and Photoshop Elements, which is a subset of Photoshop and allows many effects and more manipulation options. Best Buy has Album listed at $49.99 with a rebate ($15), Elements at 69.99 with a rebate ($30), and the combined package for $129.99 with a rebate ($30).

Thanks for the suggestions:sunny: I'll check them out.

My major problem is cropping and colour. I have a nice photo of my dd and I but it has a blue tinge.

What about batteries for digital cameras while on holiday? Do you pack a lot and keep changing them?
