We are flying in on a Sat. and do not want to use our precious points for a Sat. night stay when we will most likely be there only for half the day. Can anyone recommend a nearby hotel that is clean, but inexpensive? I remember seeing a Red Roof Inn down the street that we were considering. Anyone ever stay there?

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and it was very nice. It is just before you go over the bridge onto the island but only about a 10-15 minute drive to the resort.

I believe there are other Fairfield Inns on the island itself but we have not tried them.

Hi Michele:

Thanks for the reply. I see you are from CT--we are too! And just happen to be from Fairfield--thought it was kind of funny you recommended the "Fairfield Inn". Do you recall the price?

Whereabouts in CT are you from?

You may want to consider a night in Savannah. The town is lovely and very close to HHI. Just a thought.

:smooth:

What time of day will you get in ?? I presume you're flying in to Savannah?
If you are landing morning/midday I think I would stay somewhere in Savannah and take the Saturday to look around there and to eat in the evening in that area. Savannah looks like a nice place to visit for a day :)
If you are coming in late in the evening, I'd look for something like a Comfort Inn near the airport, it's only an hour or so to HH from there anyway and personally, I'd rather make the drive on the freeway in the morning ( in daylight) than after a flight and in the dark JMHO.

We are arriving late Sat. & share your concern about using 99 pts. for a 2 BD where we will probably only sleep, after a very long drive. I added one nt. in a studio, which is like a motel, only better. There are four of us. Why are we staying in a 2 BD? My family is DVC-spoiled!

Sueg: LOL--we're doing the same thing! I tried to talk the kids into a 1-bedroom and said we could stay longer, but they said they'd rather stay shorter and stay in a 2-br. I must say, though, that they do need their own bed since I have DD14 and DS12--too old to share a bed.

Thanks for the replies. We did visit Savannah for the day last time we went to HHI and it is lovely. Hadn't thought of that--anyone know of any "cheap" hotels there?

Hi TimeForMe -

We're up in Putnam...in the Northeast corner of the state. But I was born in Stamford which is much closer to you.

I believe the Fairfield Inn was about $65 for the night. I'm guessing that most of the hotels/motels on the island itself will be a bit more expensive. You can check rates at www.fairfieldinn.com

Hope this helps.

there is a Fairfield Inn that looks really nice and it is about 1/4 mile from the resort.

They also have suites which I like :)

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront via Priceline.com for $25 the first night on HHI. It was Christmas night a few years ago. It is right at the water too. Good hotel, good sized rooms. Just remember there are no sure things with priceline.com, do your research before you go that route, if you plan to do it that way....

We are staying at a Courtyard Marriott in Savannah this Saturday night. We are driving down tomorrow night from Northern NJ. We will be at HH on Sunday in a 1br for 5 nights. I figured we can see Savannah before hand and just enjoy HH and its surroundings. This is our first DVC trip and we are looking forward to it like you have no idea.
