Where is a good, middle of the road, hotel for the Citrus Bowl? Something along the lines of a Hampton Inn. My BIL is going to get tickets for Christmas (shhhh), and he is going to need a place to stay. ;)

Any Suggestions??????? Just bumping to see if anyone can help me help my sister surprise my BIL for Christmas. ;)

The Citrus Bowl is in a crappy part of town. I mean REALLY crappy. Like don't walk a few blocks away. It's in an area with a lot of homeless, drug dealing, and prostitution.

There aren't that many hotels downtown--especially on that side of town, and what are there are all upper end business type hotels that will cost $$$$. I don't think *any* of them are really in walking distance to and from the Citrus Bowl, especially after dark.

So if you were looking for something in walking distance, you'll want to rethink that idea.

In all honesty, you should probably look either up in Altamonte Springs or over on I-Drive. There are some cheap hotels on South OBT, but they are scarey and that's not a safe area to stay in, IMHO.

The closest hotel to the Citrus Bowl that I can think of is the Marriott at the Centroplex, but it's still a good miles or so walk. There *might* still be a Ramada a little closer, but it's not in the greatest area, and I'm not sure I'd suggest staying there.

I talked to my sis yesterday, and she made reservations at a Hampton Inn in Lake Mary(? I think). Does anyone know anything about it? She called them and they said it would be an easy trip to the arena.

The Hampton Inn in Lake Mary is about 20 miles from the Citrus Bowl - most of that on I-4.

There is a Hampton Inn in Altamone Springs which is only about 11 miles again, the majority of the trip on I-4.

So the Altamonte Springs Hampton Inn is closer? Is it a clean hotel? My sis is kinda picky about that. Do you think the AS one would be better than LM?

I am not familiar with those particular locations, just wanted you to know that there was a closer location that was not in the bad part of town.

Thanks! They live in a town that has lots of traffic and long commutes, so I don't think the drive will bother them. Thanks for your info though. :)

We've stayed at the Altmaonte Springs Hampton Inn, and it's perfectly acceptable. It's right off I-4 which is a bonus. The Lake Mary location is a few miles off I-4 and theres a very congested shopping strip with a lot of lights between the two (if I'm thinking of the right place).

I moved here from New Jersey where I dealt with NYC Metro traffic every day, and let me tell you, I'd take that over I-4 any day. I-4 from the Turnpike to the Seminole County line has got to be about the worst stretch of road in the entire USA. Even in the middle of the night or Sunday morning, it's still congested with waaayyy too many people driving 20+ mph over the 50 mph speed limit. It puts the Blackhorse Pike headed towards AC at 7:00 pm on a Friday night to shame. It puts the Garden State Parkway or the BWE on a Monday morning at 8:00 am to shame. It's worse than the I-84/I-91 interchange in Hartford, the Kennedy in Chicago, or any freeway in LA.

There will be a lot of traffic and congestion that day as there is really only one way for 90% of attendees to get to the game, and that's I-4. The closer they are and less they need to drive on it, the better off they will be.

Thanks, I'll pass that along. She might be able to make reservations there. Me personally, I am all about saving time on the Interstate. :car:
