Where to find reasonably priced mens ties?

Stop laughing at me! ;) I've never shopped for mens clothing and DH has tasked me with buying his cruise apparel. He just bought a new suit but I've got to shop for shirts & ties.

Suit came from Jos A. Bank but I nearly passed out when I looked at the ties and they were $100 each. Seriously?

So, since I'm a novice at shopping for mens clothing, where can I find reasonably priced ties and mens dress shirts and what price ranges should I expect to pay?

Thanks.

Seriously, for ties look at the thrift shops. They have kajillions of them in every brand imaginable for $5 or less, many very beautiful.

For dress shirts, not sure. Up until recently, JCPenney used to have great sales, but they are on a "no sale" kick these days. Maybe Sears? How soon is your trip/ie-how soon do you need them?

The most recent ties we've bought were on clearance at Kohl's and on sale at Belks.

I would say Kohls if you have one in your area. They have great sales and clearance, plus you can stack a percent off coupon on top.

For the last two ties I bought, one was from Kohls and one was from Target. They have some nice looking mens stuff too.

Enjoy your cruise!

Nordstrom Rack (if you have one) has lots of ties to choose from at reasonable prices. Some are higher quality than others.

Kohls for both - Thrift Store for the ties. At Kohls you can expect to pay $15-$25 on sale for a button-front dress shirt (less if you can find one on clearance!) and about $10-$20 for a tie.

Dh wears a suit to work a lot & has bought the $100 ties at Jos A Bank. I want to strangle him. What he doesn't know is that I often bring home a "new" tie for him from the Thrift Store that cost me $2. They're just as nice! If that skeeves you, any dry cleaner will clean a tir for you for about $6. So still less than the cost of a tie!

I used to work at a restaurant where I had to wear a tie, and I loved buying new ones. Some of the nicest ones I've found were at Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Kohl's also runs really nice sales/clearances on their ties. I have 30 or so that I'm waiting to drop off at Goodwill since I'm not longer working.

We don't have Kohl's, so we buy DH's ties at Macy's on clearance usually less than $10 a tie!

Just bought my husband a shirt for a wedding at Kohls. It was on a really good sale. I think we paid $20 and saved over $50 on it.

They had some nice ties there too but my husband already had his tie because the bride bought all the guys the same ones, except some were purple and some were pink.

Thank you everyone. I didn't even think of Kohls but I did think of Macy's. I have honestly never set foot in a thrift store in my entire life but if I can find nice one for $2, I may just have to take a trip inside & sneak them off the the dry cleaners, lol.

I'll hit up Kohls & Macy's this weekend for sure. I don't mind spending money on clothes that we wear every day but $100 for a tie he will wear once a year - nope!

Sign up for Jos A Bank's emails - you wouldn't believe their sales. I just ordered my DH two polos and two pairs of shorts for his birthday. The price on each is $69.50. I paid $17 something each and even got 3% back through Sunshine Rewards. He wanted a tie at Christmas, so I ordered the tie during a buy one, get two free sale and got a shirt and pants also for the price of the tie.

You can get cheaper ties all over the place as previously mentioned in this thread. Since he got a nice suit, get him a nice silk tie if you can. They really do look better than the polyester ones.

Good idea - thanks. Do you know how often they run those sales?

At least once a week. A little less than two weeks ago, ties were $19.99 each. At that time, you also could buy a suit and get six items free. I'd never buy anything full price at Jos A Bank, but my DH likes their clothes, so I watch the sales. The quality is good. It's not as good as it was 30 years ago, but you couldn't get these prices (relatively speaking) then either.

My boyfriend gets ties in perfect condition for $1-$2 at Goodwill.

Macy's does periodically run some good sales on ties. If you've got a coupon, the price will be even better. Kohls is another good option. Or if you have outlets near you, the Van Heusen outlet usually has some good deals on ties.

Macys! They have some really cute ones and you can usually use a coupon / discount.

Psst.... try a thrift. There are lots of great ones, and even some truly exceptional. I even scored my DH an Hermès tie once for a few dollars!!
