Where to find reasonably priced mens ties?

I just last week bought my a shirt/tie boxed combo from JC Penneys for my son in the mens department for 14 dollars. I think it might have been 25 regular. I only needed the white shirt (because he was in the wedding), but the combo was cheaper than just a plain dress shirt.

Ditto what others have said about thrift stores. We have found many very expensive, gorgeous ties for 1-2 dollars!

DH wears a tie every day. TJ Max, Macys on sale, Jos. A Banks on sale, Nordstrom Rack and ebay.

He only wears silk ties (they really do look better and the knot looks better).

Watch for clearance sales at Jos A Banks, I've bought Italian wool, fully lined dress pants for as little as $30 or less. And you can return to a local store.

Lands End has great dress shirts that they put on sale fairly often. I go through ebates and get cash back as well.

OP - in case you've not bought your ties yet . .. Monday and Tuesday, Jos A. Bank's website has 70% off everything.

Thanks to you I got on their email list so I got that email. I did hit up Macy's on Saturday and got him three very nice ties for under $60. Now I'm off to Jos A. Banks online sale.

I wear ties nearly every day to work. I agree with earlier posters about the thrift store idea. I've picked up so many ties for $1.51 at Goodwill. I also like the tie/shirt set sold at Kohl's. Always matches. I've had to purchase an emergency shirt at Kohl's and discovered this.

Try www.thetiebar.com I saw a special about the business one morning as they are locally owned and operated. Basically a former lawyer that was tired of paying way too much money for ties so he and his wife started their own business.

All ties are $15 (unless you need a tall) + $5.99 shipping. Fortunately for me, they're located about 10 minutes away so I could avoid the shipping.

They have all kinds of styles and colors available and a nice feature that lets you see ties accompanied with different colored suit and shirts.

For many years I wore a lot of character ties to work, mostly Disney. However, as years passed and I moved up those were no longer considered "appropriate". Now I just wear boring ties. I do occasionally slip in a discrete Mickey Mouse tie.

I echo Kohls.

However, today and tomorrow Jos Banks has 70% off everything online.

I won't buy DH work shirts anywhere else. We usually get them at buy one get 2 free so, $30 each. We get the traveler's shirts and no longer pay to dry clean. We wash them and dry for 20 minutes, hang damp and they look great!!!!!!!!

It has saved $$$$!

That said, we love the Jerry Garcia ties at Kohls and Dh even has 2 ties that are his fav from the local flea market 3 for $20!! :rotfl2:

I agree with previous posters definitely Kohls. I see ties on clearance for less the $8.00 all the time.

Are the jos.a bank ties on sale or clearance when they list them early in the week and can they be returned to a store?

On the site is said "first time ever 70% off entire site" and I'd love to get some Christmas items.

Check the quality and workmanship of Kohl's ties before purchase. Some brands are okay, but others are cheaply made and snag easily. I prefer to shop Macy's sales.

My husband just spotted that sale too. 70% is unheard of!!!! :cool1: I told him to shop now before all the good stuff is gone!

I was intrigued after reading the Goodwill suggestion on this board, so for the first time in my life, I stepped foot in one. NEVER AGAIN. Sorry, I know many on this board love thrift shops & I say more power to you. They are not for me, though, so no need to every set foot in one again simply due to the smell alone.

I'm very happy with the one's I got him at Macy's & they have a fantastic selection. :thumbsup2

Some stores do stink, but the vast majority don't. I was just looking at my receipts from last year, and I shopped at 14 different Salvation Army Stores (not to mention other chains and independent stores), there is only one I can think of that stunk, and even that was gone on my next visit.

I've found that thrift store in major metropolitan areas tend to be not as nice. DH's family lives in a small town in WI, and their thrift stores are great.

For ties, we use Marshall's and Ross. OP, depending on which cruise line you're taking, your DH shouldn't need too many ties. We've said both Royal Caribbean and Carnival, and there are only two formal nights on a seven day cruise. The rest of the time, your DH can wear a nice button down short sleeve shirt or a polo with khakis/slacks to dinner. Dress codes might be a little more stuffy on lines like Holland America, however.--Katie

I visit the thrift stores in the more affluent areas of the metro area. I've not only picked up a considerable number of ties for $1.51 each but a lot of Ralph Lauren Polo Men's Dress Shirts for $4.54 each. Those things sell for $75 - $125 at the stores. I send them off to the dry cleaners and I've got great shirts, cheap.

Thank you for reaffirming this. I thought it was just me that felt this way when went to one. :rotfl2:
