Where To Add On - Small Contract????

Assuming that location does not really matter, what are the pros and cons of adding on at BLT through DVC or one of the the other Homes through the Timeshare Store. DH and I know that we want to add a small contract (25-50 points) to have for the benefits for when we deed our main contract to our son or in case somewhere down the road we need to sell our main contract for economic reasons (who knows what will happen with today's economy?) Conventional wisdom states buy where you want to stay but it truly makes no difference to us. Since location makes no difference to us, we could save a few bucks by buying resale at OKW but if there are more pros to buying at BLT, we don't mind spending the extra money. We just are not sure what the pros may be. Will one retain its value more than the other? We are thinking it makes sense to make the purchase now in case the smaller resale contracts go up in price after the rules change on the 14th. Has anyone else gone through this process with DVC changing the buy in minimums to 100?
TIA!

If location doesn't matter, then take a guess and buy the cheapest resort based upon todays numbers. I say guess because everything could change tomorrow.

Do you know for sure that your son wants a Disney anchor around his neck?

If the DVC stops making Disney "new" money, we could see the program drastically change.

Based upon sales info, It seems to me that all resorts have lost resale value and it might be awhile before we see things change.

For a quick 25 pt add on, I would probably go through Disney as you might not see a huge price savings at the size of contract resale, especially considering how easy Disney makes it. Then I would probably go with the lowest MF's such as BLT or SSR. However, for booking window I (others might disagree) would want most if not all my pts at same resort.

My thoughts would be:

1. BWV and OKW have lowest pts requirements for studio nights
2. OKW/SSR will have low MFs (SSR newer) but really for 25 points a $1 difference is only $25
3. Lost resale value I believe is not a priority as your buy in is not large
4. BCV is probably one of the harder DVCs to book at 11 months so might be nice to have that but have to buy resale or be put on a waitlist through DVC and the years left are less
5. AKL for Cool theme/pool/years
6. Vero beach or HHI: nice resorts dfferent location on beach and need 11 month window for high season, again who cares about high MFs & resale on 25 points

So in the end I would buy a resort you wouldn't mind having and needing the 11 month priority like BCV/Vero/HHI/BWV. I believe the others are large enough to get resservations if needed. BWV has advantage of low points for std view at epcot location. If number of years is important to you than go for BLT as it will probably be hardest to get at 7 months compared to SSR/OKW/AKL.

Through DVC you can probably purchase BWV/Vero/HHI/BLT/SSR/OKW without a wait, BCV would be waitlilst and may be better through resale.

I am in the middle of purchasing a 50 point add on at VWL through resale, even with closing closts it is about $800 less than it would be if I had purchased it through disney, it is the same use year as my current contracts. Now if you are looking to add on at one of the Newer resorts, such as AKV or BLT I would go through disney as BLT is obviously not on the resale market yet and AKV resales are about the same basic cost as the points through Disney, maybe a few dollars less but you would save money through Disney because you would not pay the closing costs.
