Where to add on 25-50 pts?

We are in the process of buying a small SSR resale contract so we can later add on direct in 25-50 point increments with the Disney Visa. I was planning to add on 25 SSR points within the next year or so, but with the recent price increase, would it make sense to add on BLT instead? It looks like the cost per point per year of SSR and BLT are about the same now. We really like SSR, but I heard there is typically availability there, so I don't know if we need the 11 month booking advantage and it would be nice to have a longer contract.

That's correct you don't need to own at SSR to stay there as lots of availability at 7 months.
You might want to consider CCV as well as BLT as the resorts with the lowest point charts near MK with a long contract

Isn’t BLT closer to $245 per point going direct? That doesn’t seem about the same as $200 that SSR just bumped up to.
Right now VGF is $207 direct if that interests you (not including any incentives)

We own resale and want to add direct too.I was planning on adding VGF to start getting small contracts but have decided to wait until Poly 2 comes out.

I was also at one point thinking about adding direct at SSR or BLT but don’t like the price of either so am still waiting. Good luck with your choice.

I would not opt to buy SSR direct unless you want it so you can book more at 11 months with your resale contract since they would be the same home resort.

But, honestly, given the current price I’d consider 50 at VGF..can’t buy 25 there…over BLT..again, unless you want to own at BLT to get the booking advantage.

BLT is $245 direct, which initially made me shy away, but accounting for the extra 6 years and currently lower dues than SSR, I'm getting about a 5 cent difference per point per year versus SSR if I did my math right.

If we would buy 50 points, it is a whole different dilemma. VGF v CCV v RIV. Love the Wilderness theming at CCV, but we also have an RV and sometimes stay at Ft. Wilderness, and we have opposite gendered kids and would prefer 3 sleeping surfaces. VGF isn't really my style. We love Epcot and the Skyliner, and while with 2 little kids (age 6 and 3), we've spent a lot of time at MK, we spent just as much (if not more) time at Epcot since the elimination of free FP. If buying 50 points, I would definitely go RIV if it weren't for the resale restrictions. No plans to sell, but who knows what my travel plans will be when I am in my 80s. Maybe I do 25 points now and 50 pts at either RIV or PV2 in a few years.

If you are needing 3 different sleeping surfaces I am not sure what you are going to accomplish with 25 points as the studios only sleep 4. While I love the 1 bedrooms at BLT the lowest point per night is Sun-Thur in September at 24 points according to the 2023 point charts.

I recently added on 50 points direct at RIV ($201 pp) and AKL ($187 pp). Both of these have since gone up in price, but RIV is still decent at $207, but others like BLT are at $245. You also get 10 more years on the contract at RIV than BLT. I did buy BLT resale (25 & 50 pts) at around $178 a point.

And that's why it might not make sense...we wouldn't be using them at BLT but just augmenting our SSR points. So I guess what I'm wondering is if taking into account dues and length of contract if BLT or SSR makes more sense for SAP/stay at SSR points.

If you're looking to combine points the easiest thing would be to buy more SSR. If you're looking at studios that sleep 5 for the 3 sleeping surfaces your best bets for places to stay would be Boardwalk, Poly, Boulder Ridge, RIV, and GFV. For 1 bedrooms it would be BLT, SSR, AKV, OKW, RIV, GFV (I think).

Another idea would be to just save for the next couple of years and wait and see what happens with the new Poly tower they're building. If you save for a couple of years you might be able to get a bit larger contract there and save with the owner specials they will most likely have before they open.

We also have 1 of each gender and while that little pull down bed works ok for now for one of the kids it won't for much longer and then we're looking at 2 bedrooms anyway. My kids are 15 and almost 12 and they're pretty much adult size already. I think the RIV 1 bedroom has the larger single murphy bed so that would be a good option.

I think we might do the wait and save and see what happens with Poly 2, even if it means buying a few one-time use points between now and then. I saw where RIV had some incentives starting at 100 points so if we wait and save, maybe when Poly 2 goes on sale, it would be a great time to buy either RIV or Poly.

There is always the possibility of RIV selling out before Poly comes on line so keep that in mind. I have no idea what percentage of RIV is left to sell. They way the sales and discounts are set I would think it might still be available but you never know.

So just making sure I'm understanding this correctly. If you own resale you can buy direct anywhere if it is in the same use year? Under 150 points?

Just to add on this is correct however there are still minimum points that must be purchased. A lot of the older resorts have a 25 point minimum and the newer ones have a 50 point requirement. If you were needing financing then your minimum is 50 points no matter what.
That's great to know. In rofr right now for AUL resale.

My thinking if I can do it is buy 2 contracts direct at 100 point and later 50 points. Then I hoping that will get me a blue card? Then also 11 month booking window at wdw.

Yes this is correct at this time assuming that that the points you are buying are at one of the resorts at WDW. Hoping they will not change the amount of points required anytime soon. They last changed the number of points from 125 to 150 in early June 2021

when I bought at RR. IIRC the minimum new purchase was 150 and add on was 50…. I would really call a guide and ask if that is what you want to do. They are really helpful, no pressure. Speak the honest Disney truth! And if they don’t have an answer they will get it.
