With a few exceptions, I wasn't all that thrilled with the vegetarian options at the restaurants we visited on our recent trip. First let me start with the places I would heartily recommend. These are The Wave (the new restaurant in the Contemporary, love the vegetable stew and pasta!), Boma, Artist Point (for the potstickers but, alas, the portobello mushroom soup has chicken stock as its base), and Crystal Palace in the MK (I was pleasantly surprised that along with Pooh and friends I got wonderful vegetarian options). I also liked Columbia Harbor House in the MK. Not so great were Kona Cafe (Poly), Hollywood Brown Derby (DHS), Flame Tree Barbeque (AK) and Bistro de Paris (EPCOT). In fact at the Bistro, I ordered my meal from the downstairs restaurant, Chefs de France, and had it delivered upstairs because there was literally nothing I could eat. Contrary to what I was told, chefs were not eager to discuss options with me...in fact the only chef who did so was the one at the Wave. Most of the other chefs communicated thorugh the waitstaff. Unfortunately, my experience was that most thought that it was okay to give me a plate of the sides (meat removed), and charge nearly the same price for the dish as it would have been had it contained meat! Beware the soups as a whole, because most seem to contain chicken broth. I was, as a whole, surprised that beans, nuts, and grains weren't used more: a plate of vegetables does not a vegetarian meal make!
