The only time we have experienced any rude behavior was when we were at the same park with the tour groups from South America. They can completely take over a park. I have never seen anything come close. The worst part was walking in the park. They would cover an entire street and always expect us to move. Like everyone suggested to me on here, "hop to another park!"
This was late Jan. so not sure what other times of the year this is a problem.

We've had the same experience on one of our trips...they were so incredibly loud - the worst being when we were stuck in line for Splash Mountain with a group of about 20 teenage girls who were screaming some kind of chant at the top of their lungs...the entire time we were in line. Just lovely in those closed tunnels

All of this said, I would rather spend an hour waiting at a table in a seat then spend that same hour standing waiting up front for a table.

Generally, you are not waiting for a table, you are waiting for a server. I work in the service industry and during our busiest times we have a waiting list and empty tables. I would rather put people on a waiting list than place them at a table and have them wait for an hour for their server to get to them.

Yeah! It's not like we're talking about six flags here! :rotfl2:
I jest :thumbsup2...

Mostly :hippie:

I know that it's the one rude encounter that is remembered (as opposed to the thousands of other 'normal' ones), but someone coming in and reading threads like this might assume that WDW is filled with pushers and shovers and line cutters, and I don't think that's true at all.

I would rather put people on a waiting list than place them at a table and have them wait for an hour for their server to get to them. Also, when you overwhelm the kitchen staff you will be waiting an excessive amount of time for your meal and the food will be horrible. Keep in mind that when you are waiting for an hour it's not because the staff is being lazy. They are working double hard because they are getting slammed with tables. Plus, the majority of people who have been waiting so long are CRABBY and take it out on the server. Give them a break, please! I think that everyone should work in the service industry at least once so that they see it from the other side.

I completely agree with this last sentence! *Some* people can be incredibly impatient when it comes to restaurants and sometimes seem oblivious to all the work that serving actually requires. One year in a restaurant would certainly give some perspective.

As for rudeness, I was certainly irked by many of the South American tour groups this past January. I also experienced the obnoxiously loud chanting while in line, as well as line cutting. I was very happy when a CM at Space Mountain prevented a group of about twelve from cutting the line to meet up with their group. Although I wish I was more assertive myself (like some other posters) to say something when CMs don't!

Sooooo next time your at a parade, look behind you and see all the little smiling faces staring at your BUTT and sprinkle your "pixie dust" on them...

Sorry but not my problem.
After letting children from complete strangers get in front of me and ended up standing behind mom and dad because mom was afraid her snowflake was touched by my husband dad had to take pictures or grandpa in his WC could not see his grandchildren I decided to to what is best for ME.

I pay for a ticket so I have the same rights as anyone else perhaps even more as children that don't have to pay and certainly more rights than people that smuggle in children as underage or younger than ten.

I said it the other day, and I'll repeat it -- this is NOT the year to tick off Americans in one of their own theme parks. With the BP-enabled oil spill, Wall Street plundering our retirement savings, jobs flying across the ocean, wholesale invasion across our southern border, and continuing frustration over our involvement in southwest Asia, we're a pretty touchy group of people right now.

Yeah right, because Americans are never rude

hey,

thanks for a good read, I always expect things to go pear shaped when at WDW but surprisingly it rarely does..so the lesson is...ALWAYS expect the worst / the longest wait/ the worst service and get pleasently surprised....

88 sleeps till we fly out.......

At Epcot I saw a couple taking pictures of each other and I offered to take their picture together. The man said angrily, "Can't you see we're doing something here!". Oh well.

If you are concerned about "rude" Americans, why visit American parks?

I'm not bothered by rude people at all. I have only been to WDW once recently and I don't remember anyone being rude. I guess it just doesn't bother me at all. And I wasn't saying I was concerned about rude Americans, I was just quoting the poster who sure seemed to be saying that it was everyone else who was being rude, definitely not an American :confused3

The quote you were commenting on was about a specific group of people KNOWN to create issues and be rude at WDW.

oh this is so easy!
The place where you can be guaranteed rudeness is in the parking lot. Getting on the trams. Why would a 4 year old have to jockey for position with an adult? I literally was unable to board, because I wasnt willing to fight for a spot for myself and my kids as grown people muscled their way past us. It was downright dangerous. The rudest situations I have run into were boarding the trams. Absolutely ridiculous behavior.

Either way. People need to realize that you are on vacation, so just chill and don't sweat the small stuff. Just my two cents.

Lol, I was reading this thread to see if someone commented on me last week. :rolleyes1

My mom and I were heading to the FP line of Splash and my kids and Sister in law were already in the line but waiting to the side for us to catch up. We got to the start of the line and the CM was measuring a little guy, so I stood to the side and this lady kept hollering that there was a LINE. Well, there really isn't a FP line so we just stood there and ignored her. The CM was done measuring the little guy so he then turned to look at our tickets and waved us through. We walked all the way through the line and the lady that was yelling at me never did catch up with us. :confused3 My guess is that she was doing what everyone else does and blocks the FP entrance because they are waiting for their window to open up, and it wasn't time for her yet.

I know she thought I was being rude, but I had a valid FP and obviously she didn't. ;)

I have only noticed rude behavior a couple of times, perhaps because I am just too busy enjoying my vacation and do not pay that much attention. However a couple of years ago me, DW, DD were in line for Soarin with only a few minutes wait left when this man we did not know manages to sneak through the line and position himself between myself and my wife and daughter. I tried talking to him but apparently he could not understand english. My wife told me to let it go so I just moved back behind him. Here comes the good part, not 1 minute later the cm in front asks for a party of 3 or less so we got to go ahead of him after all. Odd thing is this "gentleman" started to then hold up his hand and yell party of one , party of one. As we were walking past him I said "Nice English" and laughed. Funny thing is he wasnt smiling.

I had about a 300lb man about knock me down at MVMCP when I was 4months pregnant with DS. What's bad is he looked right at me like he meant to! It was so crowded I guess he was irritated, but that is just unneccesary, I mean I didn't have a chance! :(

I'm sorry to read this. :sad2: There is no excuse for that kind of behavior. None.

We went to a hugely crowded MVMCP. I can see that sort of thing happening. I couldn't believe the crowds. We ended up leaving early. I don't think we'll do another MVMCP. I thought I had planned well. I read about the crowds, picked a Tue., well before Christmas. The place was nuts!

Big Disney fan. MVMCP, not so much.

When I worked as a hostess for a restaurant, we would fill every seat and not leave anyone up front with open tables. We would tell them their server would be with them as soon as possible. After we got them seated, we or the managers would at least get them water. I don't really understand the idea that it is better to leave people, especially with children, standing around up front for any longer than necessary.

Nowhere did I state, nor did I mean to imply, that only foreigners should be wary of being rude to Americans in theme parks. If you took that from my statement, and you're offended, I'm sorry.

EVERYONE should be wary of being rude to Americans in theme parks, even other Americans.

And especially Canadians, with their "we're nicer than you are" attitude... ;)

The problem is when we get really busy we section off the restaurant for the servers. Each server has their own "section", so that they can keep better track of their tables and don't have to run from one end of the restaurant to another. If we just fill every empty table our customers are not going to get served on a first come first serve basis. You might get seated right away but you are not going to get served in any specific order. BTW, we have about 96 tables in our little steakhouse.

Anyway, my rude experience: We were riding back from DS on a Friendship after park close and the boat was packed with people standing everywhere. I noticed a very pregnant lady and her two small children standing so my two teenaged sons got up and offered her their seat. Before she could manuver into the seat some 40+ year old guy grabbed the seat. I go "Hey!" and he goes, "well, they got up" and I go "yea, but not for you - for the lady with the babies". He still wouldn't get up so I gave her my seat. What a pig!! He was an American, btw (as am I). Rudeness, manners, and thoughtfulness are not national traits so let's not get into bashing other countries. I was proud of my boys, tho! :goodvibes
