The problem is when we get really busy we section off the restaurant for the servers. Each server has their own "section", so that they can keep better track of their tables and don't have to run from one end of the restaurant to another. If we just fill every empty table our customers are not going to get served on a first come first serve basis. You might get seated right away but you are not going to get served in any specific order. BTW, we have about 96 tables in our little steakhouse.

Anyway, my rude experience: We were riding back from DS on a Friendship after park close and the boat was packed with people standing everywhere. I noticed a very pregnant lady and her two small children standing so my two teenaged sons got up and offered her their seat. Before she could manuver into the seat some 40+ year old guy grabbed the seat. I go "Hey!" and he goes, "well, they got up" and I go "yea, but not for you - for the lady with the babies". He still wouldn't get up so I gave her my seat. What a pig!! He was an American, btw (as am I). Rudeness, manners, and thoughtfulness are not national traits so let's not get into bashing other countries. I was proud of my boys, tho! :goodvibes

We did the same except ours were always by section. The servers were assigned their section and number of tables based on experience, ability, day and time. Certain days and certain times were always busier so the schedule was adjusted accordingly. If it happened to be slower than expected for whatever reason, people were put on early break to see if it would pick up. We tracked who got seated first so that helped a lot. We rotated each section seating. Granted this was 20 yrs ago, but it worked well. I don't remember how many tables we had, but we had 3 separate rooms and they were further broken down by section. It helped that everyone was expected to help anyone behind by getting water or drinks, etc. including us and the other servers.

I do hate the man did that when they got up. I'm not surprised though. We saw the same thing last week when two teenage boys got up for some adult ladies. Three 13-14 yr old girls jumped in the seat while an older lady stood and held on. I was already standing or I would have given her mine.:sad2:

I love reading these boards. As I am reading this thread and I find myself saying no matter what you can not make everyone happy. Anyway here is my 2 cents

I feel Disney is for everyone as I have been there as a young adult (had just graduated from Nursing School) and recently as a parent with my then 2 yo. I have made space or let a child in front of me at the parades after I have waited 45 minutes for my front row spot, but I do not expect anyone to do the same for my child. But please do not get upset with me and my child if we have been there for 45 minutes and after 30 minutes my son starts to get antsy waiting. Beleive me I am trying my best to keep him entertained (as he was to young to play the games the CM's had set up) and not bother the others around us ( do you really think I would not prefer to have him sit nicely like all of your well behaved children)

Just a FYI once the parade started my son was an angel he was so fixated on the characters that he did not move at all he just watched in awe :)

DH & I were walking in DTD when this lady came out of no where and bumped into DH. She them proceeded to fake fall like my 6 yr old would. Not believable at all. Her family was helping her up. Dh, being the good guy he is, went over to help her up as well. He said he was sorry even though it was the lady that caused it all. She gets in his face and yells, "I BET YOU ARE!" and then faux limps off.

To this day we are still confused by what happened. I don't know if they were wanting to file a fake claim with Disney for her getting "hurt" on the property, but it was uber weird!

I use the handicapped stalls when I can because I have had back surgery and it's easier to get up from a seat a little higher and I can use the rails. When I came out of a stall in a bathroom at the MK a senior lady was waiting to use it and she started chewing me out for using the handicapped stall-I was so shocked I didn't say anything, but the more I thought about it the madder I got! I waited until she came out and politely told her that all disabilities are not in plain sight and that I had had back surgery and had every right to use the handicapped stalls( I was also using a scooter, but it was parked outside). I have always been taught to respect my elders, but I just couldn't let it pass, not this time! She mumbled an answer and walked away-she wasn't sure what to say! I worried the whole day about running into her again or someone like her!

As long as the kids aren't hitting and kicking people, I kind of like seeing the excitement they have at WDW. It's part of why I hope one day to move with DH to FL and work at WDW part time. If they are excited and antsy waiting on the parade, that's being a kid. Some people forget kids are not short adults so don't let them bother you.

Nowhere did I state, nor did I mean to imply, that only foreigners should be wary of being rude to Americans in theme parks. If you took that from my statement, and you're offended, I'm sorry.

EVERYONE should be wary of being rude to Americans in theme parks, even other Americans.

And especially Canadians, with their "we're nicer than you are" attitude... ;)

I'm not offended at all. As a Canadian, it takes a lot to ruffle my feathers ;)

Last year my 10 yo old nephew and I were on lines for TSM FP's. I had our park tickets in my hand and my nephew and I were chatting the whole time. When it was clear that my nephew's turn would come before mine, I handed the tickets to my nephew. As my nephew reached out to put a park ticket in the machine, the man on line behind him reached around his head--grazed his ear! and tried to put his own ticket in the machine ahead of my nephew! I was shocked! I stepped over to the FP machine and my nephew handed the park tickets to me and I put them in the machine. The man started saying LOUDLY Unbelievable! Unbelievable! Yup, exactly what I was thinking!

We walked away, but my nephew was pretty shaken up by the encounter. At varying points in the day, my nephew would say in a deep voice Unbelievable! and try to laugh, but I think he was just trying to process the experience. I didn't realize until later when I was talking to my nephew that the guy actually touched his ear--not on purpose, I know, but still...

The funny thing is, I would not be surprised to hear that that guy thought we were the rude ones!!

I would have come UNGLUED if someone had DARED to touch my nephew when he was little. :furious:Now that he is bigger than me, I look to him for protection from the big baddies;)

He was not hitting, kicking or even touching anyone since he was sitting in his stroller between DH and I it was your what I would call normal 2 yo I want to get out and explore I have already sat here for 30 minutes and nothing is going on :)

We've visited WDW over 50 times in 20 years. I have experienced annoying people but not extremely rude people. The usual complaints: the Brazilian tour groups, the American cheerleaders (and their mothers), people who try to push ahead and join someone else up ahead in line (I always say no you can'at go ahead of me but they can join you at behind me -- had to do this at Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse), and the inevitable late arrivals to the parades. And I would request training sessions to be permitted to ride an ECV. And the double wide rental strollers are not meant to be used as battering rams to get thru the crowds after the fireworks.
