I suspect they work on cabins over a 14 hour period everyday, about 8 am to 10 pm. We usually saw our cabin stewart about 8 each morning gathering his cleaning equipment. We had late seating, so we saw him in the evening as we went back and forth to our cabin while early seating was underway, he was cleaning the early seating cabins. I also suspect they have other duties, like delivering your luggage to your cabin the first day, and picking it up the last night.

Small...but I guess when you are working up to 16 hours a day, you only need to sleep so the extra space isn't necessary.
Hard life though I'm sure ( living on a ship). Try living in a sub!!
We found out on our last cruise that there is a stateroom right inside the crew door on deck 8 forward. We first passed it during the life boat drill but there was someone visiting a member of the crew next to us & they kept going in & out of the crew door alot.
