Where Does Alamo Code 7014266 Come From?

Okay...knock it off you guys. No one called anyone a fraud...I believe the statement was 'people who fraudulently represent'..not accusing anyone of being a fraud.
I have seen some here referred to as 'brain matter challenged' though...that sure doesn't sound so nice, does it??

Here's the thing.....if you know you are entitled to a code, use it. If you don't think you are entitled to a code, don't use it. If you wish to call and see if a code is applicable to you, fine. What will happen 304,670 people call and see if a particular code is good, for them? Perhaps the car rental company will scratch it's collective heads and say...hmmm, what's the deal here. Maybe we need to look into this.
Will they shut it down? Probably not. But they will make it accessible to those who should be entitled to it. And that's as it should be.
Renting a car is no longer a cheap thing to do. It's best to budget plenty of money to rent a car if you feel the need to have one. Otherwise, you are most likely opening yourself up to a situation where you could possibly be looking at some hefty addtl charges.
That's not something I want to have to spend my time worrying about. I would much rather pay the higer cost and know I am getting a rate that I am entitled to.

I will not, nor will the other moderators here, allow this type of attitude to continue. Either post politely or don't post at all. There is much good info out there...and our posters usually do a great job giving out that info.

You're right. I apologize for my un kind language.

You blame posters who call. I blame posters that motivate people to call by (falsely) claiming a code is available to the public. Some people claim it's a public code while others claim the code is only available to residents of a foreign country/employees of a TA/... I can't blame the naive posters who think the code might be legit and call. I wouldn't waste my time calling but I don't disparage those people who do.

The mentality of booking whatever random number give a low rate results in higher then expected utilization. Blame the "cheats" not the callers when your free upgrade promotion is pulled.

To answer the OPs question mousesavers generally lists the better legit codes. COSTCO and Walmart generally give good rates. Some people get good deals with Priceline. Thrifty seems to be giving their bottom line rates to the public, with few additional discount codes being offered.

I do understand your point but please understand that I find it ludicrous to call and ask if you are eliglible for a code your not eligible for. To continue with your AP analogy, would it make sense to call and ask "I'm not an AP holder can I book an AP rate?" or "I'm not an AP holder will you be checking on that"

The specific incident I'm referring to is when they were offering an free upgrade for qualifying National members (which I was and still am) to Executive by the time I went to use it it had been discontinued early because of misuse. Eventually it arrived in the mail a month or so later but after my trip.

To go back to the OP's question. I've always found last minute specials to be the best but not during any holiday period.

imo, no point in assigning blame period:confused3 , yet as I stated earlier, if somebody is really interested in determining the lineage of a code, it's very easy to google it to verify if it is one they r eligible to use based upon knowing their own affiliations...about as long as it would take to post here & take advice from potentially unreliable source

i must have a shifty look about me...@ least when in MCO...have gotten asked for both coupons & AAA card a couple of times when renting w/Alamo @ garage booth even though QS...which is okay as i had them inhand...just another reason i'll rent thru National if they're in the same ballpark & im paying OOP;) there though-one less step/line to tackle :thumbsup2

Just a thought, since coupons have 'capacity usage', wonder if certain corporate IDs/codes do toopopcorn:: ?

OK, I really feel like I need to do a bit of explaining. It was never my intention to use a code to which I was not entitled. However, as one PP pointed out, sometimes the car companies do create codes for special discounts that everyone is entitled to use. That's why I asked my question, in response to all the posts about not calling, after a PP who did call and book with Alamo over the phone used this code. I assumed that he would not have been able to do that if the code was not for general use. I thought that one way to find out for sure would be to call Alamo and book over the phone. If I gave them this code, and they said, "This is for employees of XZY Company - make sure you have your ID with you," then I would know I was not entitled to use it. But when BrianNoble explained why that might not be the case, I realized I was mistaken. So I won't use the code unless I find out that it is a code that can be used by everyone. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in my earlier posts.

I'm new to this board, so please forgive me if I offend...:worship:

I understand that whole "don't call and ask if you're eligible for a code" thing, but if I call them and make the booking over the phone using that code, is that bad too? I REALLY need the price I got using this code (may not be able to rent at all without it), but I don't want to use it if it really isn't okay.

If I call Alamo and ask them to book it with this code, and they don't tell me I'll need any kind of proof that I'm eligible for it, aren't they kind of saying it's OK to use it?

*pulling on my flame proof undies*
Dear Glencora, I posted my question at another place and someone was nice enough to give me a great promotional code from Florida that is o.k. to use. It's with alamo, code OOAG. You don't need a coupon. If you want to check it out it is on mousesavers.com. I kinda felt bad too about asking about something that got everybody all fired up, but I didn't know. Hope this helps Jeanne

The price was about 5$ more than the code on here that's in question. Jeanne

Jeanne - thanks for the info, but when I tried to use the code it told me the coupon was not valid.:confused3 Not sure what happened; maybe my dates don't qualify or something. I guess I'll have to keep looking, or hope to get a last minute deal. Thanks again for the help!:goodvibes

Dear glencora, Use the coupon for dollar. I'm sorry it had been a long day!! Jeanne

Jeanne-
OK, it worked on the Dollar site! Not a great rate, but not too bad. I'll reserve it, and hope it comes down a bit. Thanks again for the help!

OK just bumping here. Has anyone who has booked with the code and checked out a car encountered any problems? I have a really great price for later this year and hate to abandon it.

Thanks

Just a reminder: even if no one reports a problem, that doesn't mean that you won't have one. Most people had no trouble with the "57" codes, but I personally know someone who was not given the rate at the counter.

Really no point in bumping.

If you're eligible to use that code don't worry about it, just make sure you bring the appropriate identification.

The fact that most people seem to have currently "gotten away" with using the code doesn't mean you won't have a problem. You might want to make up a "back up" reservation with a different agency. In the context of my suggestion National/Enterprise is not a different agency.

JMO but people who are nervous. Who are looking for guarantees. Who are bumping threads probably should only be using discount codes they're entitled to use.

I used this code to pick up a minivan on 4/5/09 at the Alamo desk and boy did they give me a hard time. They told me only travelers from South America are eligible for the code. Luckily, I printed out the reservation which I think worked in my favor. (they wanted to see my passport to prove I traveled from S.A. which of course I do not have) After 30 minutes of haggling with them, they honored the code pricing but took away the additional driver and insurance.

So...beware!

I used the code in Tampa on March 22. It worked with no problems at all for me!

Remember: just because it works for some, it may not work for others. If you are going to book with a code for which you do not qualify, have a back-up plan in place. DO NOT assume that any included insurance waivers will be worth anything---chances are good that if you don't qualify for the code, the waivers will be voided.
