Hi, DVC'ers. Sorry if this is a rehash, but where do I start when making a decision to join? I've been to this site off and on for several years now but still haven't made the decision. I know how the points system works and the maintenance fees but my big questions are about use year and home resort. As of now 150 points will work for us as we will almost always travel in Adventure season. As to home resort, we love the Epcot resort area so BCV or BWV are where we would likely stay. Our first trip to WDW was in 1995, since then we have only missed one year and some years its been two trips. We always stay at a Disney resort (Swan once). I've been looking at resales and wonder why people want out. I know there are a lot of questions here to answer but maybe some one can give me some topic search ideas. Thanks for all the help because without this site I would be completely lost.

We purchased in 1992. What made us make the decision was first - we love Disney and knew that we could go to Disney annually and be happy about it. We did not have children at the time, so when we had kids what a great time we would have. In addition, once the kids get older - we have the ability to go alot of other places.

We look at it this way - we have a vacation place to go to every year. We even discuss the next time when we are there. Some people in our area go to the shore, we prefer to go to Disney. I know I hear people that say - Disney Again!! Yes, it is my choice, a choice that I am happy with.

Good Luck with your decision. I am glad we made the decision when we did - cause I know I would have regretted it.

IMHO, resale is a great way to go for many people, especially if you have determined that you wish to purchase (or are leaning toward) a home resort other than SSR. You may be waiting quite some time to purchase BCV or BWV directly from DVC.

The reasons for the previous DVC owners desire to sell could be various, from wanting or needing the cash, to outgrowing Diney in general (don't see how that's possible, but you never know). A co-worker of mine (who I found out owned DVC after my purchase) has about 550 points and also a single family home in FL. I am wondering if she'll ever sell (was that a tongue twister?), since she now has a permanent home there.

Good luck on your decision. I contacted the timeshare store prior to my purchase from Disney and found them to be very professional.

You can find any and all the advice you need here.....

[extended superbowl metaphor]

Have you enjoyed watching from the sidelines as prices have soared to $90 per point? I bet not.

Don't drop the ball. Here's a playbook that may help you get into game shape: Bennet DVC Guide

It's the fourth quarter, tap the coach on the shoulder and tell him your ready to go in.

Rinkwide, thank for the link, I've been to that site before but couldn't remember where it was. Alan

I can't ever see myself wanting out. However, people do get divorced and have to sell property that is shared. I'd imagine that illness and financial issues could also be a factor too, but I'd look at renting out my points first in either of those cases.

Oh yeah, welcome to the DIS!

When you consider that there are 80,000 + DVC Members, there's not really that many listed in the resale market.

I would give DVC a call and talk to an agent. Do it sooner than later as someone else pointed out, the price of points does eventually increase. Unless you are dead set on only staying at one particular resort, it really doesn't matter where your home resort is.
