Where Did You Come From?

What brought you here?
Back in 2008 we were planning our first trip as a family since my sister and I were little kids. We used to have grandparents that lived near Orlando, so staying onsite had never been something wehad to worry about. As you know, Disney's site has very little information and so it didn't take long before I wound up on the Dis. After doing research for awhile and constantly finding my way back here, I gave in and decided to join the boards. This place is just too informative for it's own good!

What boards do you frequent the most?
The unplugged boards, the resort and restaurant boards, and the theme park attractions & strategies boards!

What's your favorite part about the DIS?
I like getting a little Disney fix when I can't be there, especially the photo threads. If I have a question about something I can always find the answer here. Or I can ask and have an answer within minutes!

I haven't been using these fourms a lot since I am still quite new here, but I love the information I find and how friendly people are here! I mostly started using this fourm because I am really interested in the Disney College Program. Out of many fourms I am a member of, this one has been the most helpful for the CP. With that said, I mostly use the College boards since I am a college student.

I started out many, many years ago on the Prodigy boards (yes, that ages me.) Then I went awhile without any 'Disney Fix' until I found the Disboards. Loved the Disboards, at that time we weren't DVC owners and the resort boards and the theme park board was my place to be (saved me tons of money finding out about AP Discounts, etc.).

Then I found the Dis Unplugged Podcast Board...and I was totally hooked, downloaded all the old podcasts and listened to them from the beginning. Fell in love with Bawb (who didn't), and the rest of the team.

Now I visit the Podcast Board, all the DVC boards, occasionally the budget and travel boards, and lately the Wedding boards because I'm planning a 40 year Anniversary Event.

What brought me here?

No idea it was a long time ago. Based on my date I would have to say it had to do with the Disney Marathon probably responding to a question, Jan 2003 I did my first Marathon (ok and three more since going to be 4).

What boards do I frequent most?

Podcast board and the WISH board

What do i love about the dis?

I listen to Podcasts to pass the time while i am training for my marathons!

What brought you here?

In 2008 I was doing the ABD Backstage Magic trip. I wanted to know what was going to happen on the trip (I don't like surprises), so I Googled and found a thread on the DIS. I got to meet some people who were on my trip before we met in "real-life".

What boards do you frequent the most?

I like looking through trip reports and the Podcast board.

What's your favorite part about the DIS?

I love being in a community where everyone has the same interest. I also the fact that I have met some great people on this site!

What brought you here?
While on my first trip with my dance students for a dance competition at Disney, the parents started talking about things like Fantasmic and 50's primetime where if you don't wash your hands they scold you. I had never heard of any of this so when I got home I started researching and it was all over for me. I've been on the boards ever since.

What boards do you frequent the most?

Depends on what I'm looking for at the time but everyday I start with the podcast board. Right now 2nd seems to be DVC. Since we're renting DVC points I try to find out if waitlists are coming through and how hard it's going to be to segment my dining plan.

What's your favorite part about the DIS?

My favorite part is the podcast, but closely followed by the boards and chat. It's great to be able to chat with friends( even though you may not have even met) about everything Disney....especially without hearing...Disney again??? Don't you want to go somewhere else?

I kinda "fell down the rabbit hole" into the DIS. My job entails me reading and analyzing charts so I used to listen to radio/CD's all the time to drown out co-workers talking and noise. But I got tired of those and got an IPod. While I was downloading my music I discovered "podcasts" on ITunes. I discovered that I can listen to people talking about different things. I listened to a few travel podcasts, news, and other podcasts then I put in Disney and found the DISunplugged and a few others.

After listening for several weeks I finally checked out the site. WoW look at all this information. I remember my DH asking me "how do you know all this about Disney" and "what are you downloading." My co-workers kept asking me "what are you laughing about."

I frequent the DISunplugged board and the resort boards. I go wherever the mouse leads me and sometimes wander off the beaten path.

I'm happy to know there are others out there that love Disney like I do.

I found the DIS after planning an early 2001 trip. I just like researching and finding info and helping other people with info.

And I love how active the DIS is. I expect every message board to be as active (hello, naturallycurly.com, which is a great board), but it isn't!

I like the Resorts board. For some reason, I'm fascinated by the resorts - finding the perfect resort for each particular situation and taste. I get distracted by other DIS boards, but I always go back to that one!

I started listening to the podcasts a few years ago with my cheap hand me down MP3 player. (I walk 45 min to 1 1/2 hours 5 times a week and the podcasts are very entertaining!)

I bought DH an ipod in 2007. One morning, after he had been messing with it the night before, he told me that I was lucky that there wasn't a hole in the window where he threw it. He was so frustrated with how it "takes over".

After finding the Disunplugged, I finally needed to upgrade to an MP3 player with more memory (too many podcasts - I had to delete before I downloaded because my cheap MP3 player didn't have much memory!). So, I dug out DH's discarded ipod, and now I listed to other podcasts (Disney and otherwise - love Stuff You Missed in History Class, but they don't always have a topic that interests me).

I like how the Disunplugged crew is in the same room when recording. That keeps bringing me back. Pete is right - it really makes a difference. Listening to other podcasts, technology can't really seem to substitute for that. I love when they go "off topic". It becomes unplanned, and that's when it seems to get personal. That doesn't seem to happen when podcasters aren't face to face.

No, this isn't what you think. I thought it'd be fun to share where we came from in terms of our involvement on the DIS. What brought you here? What boards do you frequent the most? What's your favorite part about the DIS? :disrocks:

Way back in 2005 I started researching our first ever Disney World trip...someone pointed me in this direction - I can't remember who it was but it was from a parent's board I used to frequent when my kids were infants.

I love the Podcast boars, Canadian board, and Disney for Families boards most but I also check out lots of the others throughout the week...I love looking for interesting things to read!

The dis is like a second family to me where we're all connected by our love of Disney, you know...where it's not weird to talk about Disney stuff all the time.

I love that I can come here and find the info I need, the support that's given here is amazing! The Dis ROCKS!

I discovered the Dis in March of 2007 when I bought my first set of DVC points from the Timeshare Store :cloud9:
I didn't really get active until December of 2008. I had just come back from a bad Disney trip. We all got sick with a stomach flu that was going around and then we had to come home a day early because of a snow storm. We came home to 3 straight days of snow
Anyway , I was just hungry for anything Disney I could find. I started off on the resorts boards and then after I got into the podcast , I started posting on the podcast boards.
My favorite part of the Dis is the wonderful people who come here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and almost always go out of their way to make you feel comfortable :)
I love that the people her "get it" and don't ask why I keep going to Disney when there is a big world out there !!! Disney makes me happy and I think thats fantastic :goodvibes

Back in 2006, I was researching a trip to WDW, and someone suggested I check a website (yes, the DIS) as they had a board that rented out DVC reservations. I joined, and almost booked, but then the trip got canceled. I kind of forgot about the website.

Then, in 2008, I took my first ABD, and the Adventure Guides mentioned the DISboards as a place they'd seen people posting about ABD and posting pics of their pins. After I got home, I checked it out, and found the ABD forum. I joined in, and posted a Trip Report for my ABD. People liked it! I was really encouraged, and started posting regularly. For a long time, the ABD forum was the only place on the DIS I frequented. (In fact, the bookmark for the ABD forum is marked "The DIS".)

After the folks on the ABD forum sucked me into signing up for the DCL Med cruise (I HAD to do that ABD!) I started posting on the DCL forum. I saw people there talking about the Podcast, and finally sought it out several months ago. And those are primarily the 3 places I post -- The ABD Forum, the DCL Forum, and the Podcast Forum.

I came here when the boards first started looking for Disney information. We first visited WDW in 1993 and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, the Internet wasn't what it is today. Looking for Disney information wasn't really available until RADP came around, then the DIS around 1997/1998. I visited the DIS everyday to get my fix until our next trip. At the time we only travelled to WDW once or twice a year.
RADP? Now there's a Blast from the Past!!!

What brought me here? Accident. Booked a cruise, and in doing research, one of searches brought me here. Found out cruise was PCC 2, transferred reservation, hooked ever since.

Which boards? DIS Unplugged, DISabilities, DCL, DISMeets. Ohh - and every once in a while, I chat.

I found the boards when I did a Google search for Disney marathon. I found the podcast about a month earlier and didn't realize they were related for a couple of weeks.

I've met real world friends on the boards, at the races and WISH meets, and on PCC 1.0.

My first stops are always the WISH pages and Podcast pages.

Lori (Briar) was big into RADP too.

I only knew about the podcast because of the DisBoards. I found the Disboards from friends on another travel forum for Myrtle Beach. The rest, shall we say, is history! What a site! At first, I was hooked on the resorts forums, when deciding where to say, then it was restaurants, when deciding what to eat, then it was strategies when deciding what to do! I also visit for families, DisAbilities, budget & transportation every now & again.

Prior to '06, my wife and I had not been to WDW in nearly 15 years due to a number of circumstances. We decided we need a "real" vacation with our then 4 year old daughter, and started researching Disney. We came across this site before anything else, started reading, researching, and well, 5 years and 6 trips later, #7 coming up this August, we are still here, and loving Disney more and more each year!

What do we love about it? Probably the vast, sometimes too much, amount of information instantly available. The family like feel of the site and boards, the podcasts and last but not least, the feeling of "being" at WDW, even while way up here in the NE awaiting our next trip!

I think this site is probably the best resource available for anyone looking to take a Disney vacation period. :thumbsup2

Cool! We can reminisce!

I forgot to say that what I love about the DIS is how it can take people from all over the place, and bring them together. The whole concept of an active DIS Meet thread for my Med cruise, that turned into a shared table for dinner with magnificent DISer's is just wonderful. Same with the thread for our K&L ABD. I have *plans* with people I've never met for the day before & the free time in London. Something I've never done before!

And I just love sharing the agony :) of deciding which ABD to sign up for with my friends on the ABD forum...

I found the DIS in 2006, when I was researching our big family trip for summer of 2007. Being a Left Coaster, DL was very familiar but I had a feeling WDW would be different. Good thing I listened to my instincts! :cool1:

Back then, I was on the resort, trip report and theme park boards a lot. Then I discovered the Podcast. My DD and I loved listening and we learned so much. Our 2007 trip was terrific! Now that we are not planning a trip, I am still an avid Podcast listener...after all, how could I leave my 'friends??'

Now, I spend most of my time on the Podcast board. I also check out DiSabilities (DD has type 1 Diabetes and I like to share things that worked for us with other families) and Disneyland pretty frequently.

I recommend the podcast and this site to anyone who asks me about WDW.

Trying to get information on a Disney Dream Cruise that was a year away.

Heard my first DIS podcast which was the RANT Podcast about Harry Potter and was hocked on a show that tells it like it is. Found the Dis community will tell it like it is.:charac2:

Boards are what I need in the future or now. Parks, DIS Podcast. Disney Heavy Metal fans :rockband::rockband:, Cruise but that a few years from now since we were on the Dream March 6th, 2011

I had finally convinced my husband that we needed to take a real vacation. One where you leave town, pack a bag, stay in a hotel...we hadn't ever done that before - not in 10 years of marriage. I wanted to go to WDW because I had never been. He agreed and the uber-planner (me) set about planning and found this place. That was pre-2007 (our first trip). We now have a small DVC ownership so that I am sure to get to go back at least every other year. This December will be our 5th trip, and I couldn't have done it without you! All of you...podcasters and posters alike have been so important to me!

I don't post a lot, but I listen all the time, read a lot, and still feel a part of things even though I haven't met any of you. I CAN'T WAIT 'TILL DECEMEBER!! My husband thinks that Pete and Walter, Kevin and John, Teresa, Corey, etc., etc. are just my imaginary friends I think. I get to prove to him that you guys really exist! I quote you guys all the time, and people on the boards, so it will be nice to show him that everyone is really 3D. And you'll get to see that I'm really pink. :cutie:

I hang out here, mostly, and the theme park board, with check-ins at the DVC boards to make sure nothing strange is happening with DVC. You just never know...
