Is there anywhere i can get free internet at the fort I may only need it for a few minutes a couple of times we are there is there anywhere I can get to feed off of to get a signal? I thought awhile back i saw a picture of someone sitting near pioneer hall/trailsend.

There have been reports of people being able to get online in the Settlement area, but so far no confirmation of exactly how they were able to do this. And someone posted an update just this week that they tried this unsuccessfully.

You might get lucky and find an unsecured network from another camper, but no guarantees there. When we were there in December my laptop occasionally picked up an open network - although most were locked (I used my wireless air card).

Unfortunately other than that, no free WiFi at the Fort. :sad2:

Maybe Holly will post when she gets back but she put on Facebook that she was picking up free wi fi in 800 loop. I know when i see someone on a laptop on the porch at crockets or meadows trading, but i did not think it was free. Maybe it is?

I'm back from the Fort! The free Wifi that I was getting was from someone's unsecured network and was gone after I was online for about 30 minutes. However I do have great news! You do get free WiFi at the Settlement and at the Meadow! I know that last night we went up to the Meadow with Cheryl (4mickey2) and her DH and she was posting on the DIS! I don't think she even had to use a password.

Anyone know what network is getting picked up and if it's reliably accessible? Is it possibly a WDW network that they "forgot" to lock?

If it is.... Shhhhhh!!!!! Keep it on the down low or they'll put the kibosh on it. :ssst:

I know all the secrets to disney internet butI can't sayanything (pm)shhhhh but at the center store there is always a internet you can use or you can get a golfcart and drive around loops until you find one and sit there for a few minutes........

Meadows TP porch, my son used it for 3 nights in a row, we never paid a dime and there was no password required. I know others will say it's not true, but at least try it and then maybe you can post here whether it worked or not.

Oh, and my son wasn't the only one, there were several people there each night.

Just a theory as to why some folks get it and others don't: It could be that Disney has an unsecured wireless "N-only" network that folks with older "B" and "G" cards cannot utilize. I have done that here at the house for the network my server is on to keep the data rates as high as possible, and then have a second "backwards compatible" network for just internet access for my older machines. So if you folks check, try to post what kind of card your laptop uses (B, G, N). Thanks.

OK, now my brain hurts

Tech support

"is it plugged in?" "plugged into what?" "the wall" "my computer didn't come with a wall"

I know we went to the TE porch for the WIFI and couldn't get on without our KTTW # and $9.95 a day.

Oooohhhh tricky!! That would certainly explain why some folks seem to be finding a reliable free WiFi network there and others aren't.

Hopefully their spies aren't paying attention to this thread and don't run out and lock it!:rolleyes1

interesting! what wireless card do you have B, G or N.

I have no idea, all I know is we didn't have to add anything to the laptop because it already had WIFI capability.

How do we find that out, about all I can tell you is that we got the lap top in mid 2006.

Seriously doubt you are picking up an unsecured network that is part of the Disney Corporate network.

What you are picking up is someone who has hooked up a wireless router to their $9.95 per day Internet connection and either they don't know or don't care that it's secure. These people come and go so that's why sometimes its there and sometimes it isn't.

There is no magic at the Meadows Trading Post, its just a convenient place to sit and not look like a weirdo sitting in golf cart surfing the net.

The new maps show WiFi in the registration area and also by Crockett's Tavern / Arcade area. I talked to a looper the other day who was sitting by the arcade in his cart surfing the web, fiend style ;)

True, but are both paid Disney WiFi - not free.

From AllEars...
Disney offers wireless Internet at three hot spots and broadband cable at the sites and cabins. The three WIFI spots at Fort Wilderness are Reception Outpost, Meadows, and Crockett's Tavern.

I couldn't get on from Crockett's Tavern/Trail's End at all. It didn't even offer me the option to pay for intenet or I would have, it just brought up a network asking for a password.

it just brought up a network asking for a password.

Which is likely a nearby campers secured WiFi. I'm with the PP that suggested that the folks that have gotten online free at Crocketts are just lucking out and picking up an unsecured camper's network. Which means I wouldn't count on being able to get on there every time, but you can always try... you might get lucky! :thumbsup2
