Where can I buy a *REAL* Louis Vuitton bag?

Sorry, but that's wrong. You're confusing prosecution and legality. When you travel abroad, as a US citizen, the laws of our country attach. Again, think of the example of the American business. When working in the international arena, American businesses often complain that they cannot compete in that market because its competitors can offer bribes, which ensures the competitor will win the contract. US companies cannot offer bribes while operating in other countries, even if bribes are legal there. Why? Because bribes are illegal under US law.

You keep saying this, but like CaityCaity, I've always been told that the law of the land you're in not the one you're from rules. Do you have a source for your information?

You know actually we were told a few weeks ago when in Mexico that we were under Mexican law. So I'm inclined to believe Caity.

actually, no i'm not. and i'm not wrong. very few us federal laws apply to us citizens abroad. some do, but not most. some laws that do cross across foreign borders are antiterrorism laws, sanctions/boycotts, and corrupt business practices. the example you give falls under corrupt business practices. however, that does not mean that us citizens are under us law when abroad in other situations. that is just not true.

and as i mentioned in my previous post, it is definitely NOT illegal to drink alcohol under 21 when residing in a country that legally allows you to do so (for example). no one is going to prosecute you because it is also NOT ILLEGAL. if you don't believe me, please ask a lawyer. i am definitely right on this; i had to take training on this kind of thing for my old job. most us laws do not apply to us citizens when abroad.

You are correct caity:thumbsup2

"antiboycott, antiterrorism, corrupt practices, economic sanctions, and export controls..."

But, can you buy a replica purse:rotfl:

With all due respect, you have no idea what I have in the bank, what I may or may not own, or my financial situation in general.

I'm 21 years old. I've worked since I was 14. I'm currently a senior in college at a private university. I'm on my way to graduate school, moving out of my parents house when I graduate next year.

I don't know what generation you grew up in, or how old you are, but in this generation, for the most part, we have an extended childhood, more than any other generation before us. 100 years ago I would have been married with multiple kids by now. In our society today though, it's pretty necessary to go to college and earn your degree. Owning two homes by 21 is pretty rare amongst my peers at this time.

Although, I will add, you don't know my financial situation or my worth.

Right on.:thumbsup2

It really doesn't matter what you believe. Educate yourselves.

I followed your advice and educated myself. You're incorrect.

From the US State Department:

3. Familiarize yourself with local laws and customs of the countries to which you are traveling. Remember, the U.S. Constitution does not follow you! While in a foreign country, you are subject to its laws.

Where did this thread go??

Some people collect designer handbags doesn't mean they are snobs. Those people can spot fakes from a mile away. The purse forum that I posted earlier actually has a thread where you can post a picture of the purse on ebay for example and they will tell you if it's authentic or a fake just by yes looking at it. Each designer handbag has significant details that differ from the fakes. There's usually a list of items to check to make sure the handbag is real or a fake before you buy. Would I be able to spot a fake probably not because I'm not a handbag collector unless the fake was really fake then it would just be obvious.

I don't understand why anyone thinks that a person who wants to buy a designer handbag should't because it's too expensive. Why does it matter so much to you? It's there money they can spend it how they want you might not understand it but that doesn't mean it is wrong.

As far as the buying a knockoff thing goes I personally wouldn't do it doesn't mean I'm a snob because I will only go designer. I know some people don't want to spend that much money on a handbag when they can buy a knockoff that is there choice. Just like it's my choose not to buy fakes.

I'm not a designer handbag collector by any means I only have my betsey johnson one I got half off. One day though who knows there could be a designer handbag in my future!

Love my LV, I got my first one at 15 it lasted me for about 15 years. Got my second one at 33, love it too. I am not a fan of any other brands likes Coach, Kate Spade, etc. I carry my LV everyday.

I can't believe that I have read 11 pages about these purses, and that I responded, or all of the crazieness this thread has gone to. :sad2: Of course I also just got sucked into 19 pages of the Dixie Chicks.

I did just the opposite. Read all those pages about the Dixie Chicks. Saw the mention of my favorite non-Disney place on Earth (South Coast Plaza) with my 2nd favorite topic (purses, Shoes are #1) and thought I would relax and get the scoop on purses.

Wouldn't this Louie guy be missing his bag, if you bought it???:confused3
Why would you want a bag that some guy had????:confused3
