Where can I buy a *REAL* Louis Vuitton bag?

Well, yes that is an image. Are you asking what I'm trying to project, personally?

I would hope that if someone was looking at my outfit or bags, they would think, "Wow, she has really cute taste" ;)

Perhaps it all is snotty, but isn't the whole designer thing snotty in general? It by default creates a division between people who can afford it, and those who cannot.

You are projecting an image on to those who "cannot afford it"... that they are trying to look like they can afford it and by doing so, that gives off the impression that those who can afford are superior, which to me is snotty. Yes, the whole designer thing is snotty in general as well :)

ETA: Did you follow that... I'm going on very little sleep :rotfl:

Ahhh.......Canal Street in NEW YORK!!!! I was talking about Canal Street in NEW ORLEANS!!!!! Very similar though I'm guessing when buying fake purses.

However, that sort of thing is kind of user-fault related. Designers stick by their items if something breaks, because that is their fault. The bags are designed to last a lifetime. If a pen explodes though, they can't be held responsible for that.
So the big draw that they "last a lifetime" isn't exactly true. Yes, it's fault related, but things like that happen. We can insure our vacations, jewelry, houses and cars. Can you insure a designer bag? :confused3

Did I tell you all about the woman at Walmart (I was behind her in line) carrying a LV purse that tried to pay for her groceries with her newly acquired Walmart credit card account?;) Her purchase was declined.

I wonder if her purse was real or fake?:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

As for this thread~ there's too much angst over some pieces of leather, vinyl or whatever these purses are made of!:lmao:

LOL, I certainly have my LV bag listed and a picture and it's value in my contents list. I also collect expensive dolls which can cost $1,000 each. They are also listed. So I certainly hope they would be covered.

Edited to add that they would be covered in a fire or tornado etc. If I carried my LV somewhere and spilled something on it then no it wouldn't be covered which is my very reason for buying the knock offs.

I was talking about in general and speaking honestly, that yes, I probably do project an image that I can afford something that others cannot.

That isn't why I buy them though. I truely love the crafstmanship, the look, and handbags in general. It's just kind of a hobby I'm into, lol.

I'm trying to be very honest with my opinions on this thread, which might make people judge me. The whole situation is snotty in itself!

You know, I grew up around this sort of nose-in-the-air arrogance over material things and looking down on people who were the 'have nots' (especially if they had the audacity to actually try to follow the same styles with knock-off brands- oh, the horror). I guess I figured it would change when people matured. LOL, the joke was on me. Snobbery doesn't ever really mature.

Designed to last a lifetime, provided you dont accidently drop the thing in a lake, lol.

I think theres a difference between vacations, jewelry, houses, and cars especially. Things like houses and cars are much more of a necessity than handbags (obviously). If something happened to one of those, it has an actual impact on ones life.

Not to mention the fact that although there ARE handbags that go for tens of thousands of dollars, the majority do not.

I don't look down on people. I don't choose my friends based on what they wear or what they can afford. But the whole fake thing does puzzle me, and I was honest with my reasons why.

Plenty of people look down on those who spend money on overpriced handbags too, and have lots to say about what type of a person they think that those people are as well.

Judgement works both ways.

LisaL, I wasn't even addressing you! lol

And I read all of it now that I"ve had the time to catch up.

Thanks for the PM. Just wanted to respond here, too. I guess after reading all the posts, you can see it's been a bit of a long day of posting. Sorry I misunderstood.

The really sad thing is that I notice the materialism is starting with kids younger and younger all the time :sad2:

Oh, and PoohandWendy, it has nothing to do with looking down on people because of what they can and can't afford. My favorite flip flops are the 2.50 kind from Old Navy, and I love shopping and buy some of my clothes at Target. I never shy away from a deal, and not everything I own is designer. If something is cute, it's cute, doesn't matter the label.

I just don't get the fake handbag thing :confused3

And, I would imagine if a person couldn't afford the bag, but had a knock off that looked just like yours, they would look like they had "cute taste" too:goodvibes

You have seen some baaaad knock offs, I assume. Like others have said on this thread, there are some out there that you would have NO idea unless you got very close or touched it. You have to be pretty preoccupied with what others have (and darn it, why should the poor have what the rich should only afford:rolleyes1 ) to get that wrapped up in someone else's handbag.

Of course, anyone who sits wondering if it is real or fake and has to know the truth, well......:sad2:

Eh--Who am I to talk? I have one very good bag. Other than that, I carry timbuk2 products. For around $100, I have some very functional bags that will last me years;)

Sure it does. I was only speaking of the snobbery that often goes hand in hand with designer items, like handbags.

Honestly, people who are really in the 'haves' group and buy them because they genuinely love the quality and style...they tend to not even notice what other people are carrying. It's the wanna-bees the ones who are really trying hard to fit into some supposed elite group, in my experience, who are most bothered by people who carry knock-offs. Just my personal thoughts, not directed at you or anyone here, because I don't know your personal motivation.

I'm the same way EvilPrincess.....I love buying a bargain. Heck most of my jeans come from Wal-Mart or Belk and I love shopping at Khols!!!!

I've just always loved purses! I can't help myself. Some people buy expensive jeans, I love expensive purses. However I do see and understand buying the knock offs as well. If you like a particular design of a expensive handbag and can get that same look for 80% cheaper go for it!!!!!

Heck I have so many purses I could start my own websight. I buy what I like and I have everything from my expensive LV to a $3 SAK that I bought at a resale shop the other day! I just love purses!!!!!

To each his own!

Just to clarify, my comments were not directed at you, in particular. Just talking about the designer handbag vs knock-off elitism phenomenon in general. Sorry if you thought my post was directed at you.

I would have an idea though. If you read the thread again, there are MANY ways to tell whether a bag is real or fake.

It isn't so much that I"m preoccupied with what others have, it's a) the area I was raised in, and b) the fact that designer handbags, sad as it may be, are somewhat of a hobby for me. I collect them.

Kind of the same way that some people might collect dolls and are able to tell the differences in company, even if there are cheaper alternatives that use a similar style. It's just what I'm into! It may seem snobby, but truely, it's more like a hobby. That's how I am able to tell the difference, whether you believe it or not. It's something that fascinates me, something that I find to be pleasing to the eye and something I enjoy spending my own money on and collection.

:thumbsup2 Preach it, sister.

Evil Princess;17003222 I would hope that if someone was looking at my outfit or bags said:
Im sorry, Please I dont mean to offend you. BUT At your age I already owned my 2nd home. I have owned over 10 since I was 21 and as I type this from my over 1/2 million dollar home I cant help but wonder why a girl would care about how a stranger would think she had cute taste,

Again I am not trying to offend you. I understand you worked hard for your purses I just dont understand why the hard work for something you cant take to the bank ? (or can you ?)

It isn't so much that I"m preoccupied with what others have, it's a) the area I was raised in...

The area your were raised in? So, everyone that was "raised in your area" can spot a fake bag? That is just strange.

I would move:rotfl:
