Where Are Your Favorite Places To Dine, And To Snack At Dl. And At DCA?

Bump! :yay:

Planning our first trip to DLR for next year and trying to gather some useful info...

THANKS!!
~mary

Your welcome! :) and thank you for the kind bump! :)

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful time, especially so, for it is your first trip to DL.

One of these years, I will finally make it to WDW! :) (sigh)

Come one, come all! please share your favorite establishments to which to dine, and snack at, and can anyone please tell me, exactly where do you find caramel apples at DL? and if there are chocolate caramel apples, love those! I just don't recall ever having seen them, there.
Marcelline's, I have been by, not to, as of yet, you know it can be a dangerous place, when you love chocolate! perhaps, they sell them too?

My favorite place to eat is Pizza Port, it's a must everytime we go. My favorite snack is a Cream Cheese Filled Preztel and a :mickeybar

Mm mm, that does sound yummy! thank you for your input, I was wondering? is the pizza a pretty good sized slice? or wimpy? I have seen photos of it, and one slice looked pretty small to me.

I don't go for the pizza, I go for the Chicken Fusilli it's the best value in the park. Two adults can share one order. I would say the slices are pretty big but don't taste all the good (my husband owns a pizza place so I have to say that :teeth:).

OK now I want to go:banana:  .

They have a variety of carmel apples at the Pooh candy shop back in Critter Country. I think they also have them at the candy shop on Main Street.
Also, they have them at the candy shop up at the front in CA.

You have some good ideas! You would probably do well to work for Disney. I do think that DL will probably eventually start doing the holiday versions of HM and IASW down in WDW, and moving them out of DL, but they may start revamping other rides in DL. In fact, I started a thread last night asking what other DL rides would you like to see done in a holiday motif like IASW and HM. We came up with Storybookland Canal Boats, Splash Mountain and I voted for the Tiki Room, all Christmas carols. And one poster said that it would be great to see DL alternate the holiday rides each year. HM and IASW one year, then the other rides the next year, and so on.

That's a great idea except for people like me who visit in September. I haven't been able to see HM since 2001 because it is closed everytime I visit. I couldn't imagine Tiki and Splash also being down for holiday install.

Oh yeah, we lived off Dole Whips last time we went to DL...and tortillas from DCA (nothing tastes as good as free)!

FAVORITE SNACK Bengal Safari Grill Located aross the walkway from Indianna Jones. If there is a line it is worth the wait. My favorite is the Safari skewer --Asparagus wrapped with bacon then grilled over the BBQ. It is a bit spendy and one is never enough so I order two or three and that is my meal for the evening.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST The Chip and Dale breakfast bufet at Gand California. It it /or was the least expensive of the breakfast buffets but offered some of the best breakfast items. If you are not a big breakfast eater you are also able to order off the menu.

FAVORITE COUNTER SERVICE I like the pacific warf. I order the Shrimp Louie. I wish they would put more lettuce in those. The Dressing is to die for. It is very smooth yet flavorful.

FAVORITE TABLE SERVICE I like BB. The food is very good -- but very spendy. But is is my favorite TS.
Second favorite is a tie between Cafe Orleans and Storytellers at GC. They sever the Monte Cristo for about 5 dollars less -- no sides but were offered grapes. The menu is all good at Storytellers.

Free food is always good! I liked the orange/lemon whips that used to be sold at Bengal BBQ, but they are no longer sold there.

I don't think Disneyland would shut down more rides for holiday overlays in addtiion to the two they already do. If anything, I think they would probably move the holiday HM and IASW over to WDW and open new ones at DL. But it has to be the right length of a ride and it has to be kind of a slow ride, preferably with music. The only other one which might work would be Pirates, but I doubt they would ever do that. Tiki would just be good because it is all songs so they could replace the songs with Christmas stuff.

I like the idea of nbc overlay, visiting WDW, why should we have to endure it every single year! there are people that would love to visit DL, in the fall, and winter. Perhaps, that theme, could visit WDW, every other year, that way, people that would love to see it, at WDW could, and people that don't want to see it here, can, ah, I love that idea! :)

Thank you to everyone, that have shared their foodie fav's. :)
As the song goes, more, more, more, how do you like it, how do you like it?

Having just come back from a trip our new current favorite is White Water Snacks at the GCH. This has got to be the best kept secret at DLR! Thanks to the people on this board who wrote about this!

There were very few people there every time we went. And they have the best chicken sandwhiches. They come on a hamburger bun and have guacamole and a cooked chili pepper. YUM! They are served with fries and several strawberries. We decided to split one the next time and they cut it in half for us back in the kitchen. The price is much better for the food you get than the Taste Pilots Grill. Also it is near the enterance to CA. :thumbsup2

Wow! I am so shocked I have not posted on this thread yet..

DL:

Favorite breakfast place: Carnation Cafe. I love love love it there. I always get the Mickey waffle while DBF always gets Oscar's Scramble. The potatoes they have there are to die for. The wait staff is always nice, Oscar is always walking around making sure everyone is enjoying their meal, and we always make PS's so we never wait long to be seated.

Favorite lunch place: It's a tie between: Cafe Orleans. We always tend to eat here. I really enjoy sitting outside and watching the ROA and people watching. I always get the Cresent City Salmon salad. The salmon is always fresh and never fishy smelling or tasting. DBF always devours his Monte Cristos, don't ask me how he can eat the whole plate in one sitting. :confused3
AND
Hungry Bear Restaurant: I really like the food here. And I love coming to eat here after being soaked from going on Splash. I always order the chicken sandwhich and DBF always gets the bacon cheeseburger. We get onion rings and funnel cake to share too. I like sitting close to railing of ROA and watching the ducks and the Mark Twain go by..

Favorite dinner place: Another tie between: Royal Street Veranda. I am in love :lovestruc with the clam chowder bread bowls. Yum yum yum. We always sit at the tables near the line for POTC, so after we're done we just jump in line for the ride.
AND
Rancho de Zocalo: I enjoy the atmosphere here plus the cheese enchiladas are very very good. DBF and I are both picky about our Mexican food and we enjoy this food a lot. Plus the coconut flan is fantastic!

Favorite snack: Coke corner. I have to have their cherry Coke and a jalepeno and cheese pretzel. My favorite.

DCA

Favorite breakfast place: I don't think we have ever eaten breakfast at DCA?

Favorite lunch place: Taste Pilots Grill. I like eating here to cool off outside and rest. I usually order the Wild Bleu Yonder burger (bleu cheese burger) and I think DBF gets the cheese burger. I love the toppings bar they have too.

Favorite dinner place: I agree with everyone about Wine Country Trattoria. The place has great food and it's nice sitting outside. If you time it right you can sit and watch the DLEP. Make sure you get PS's or you might have to wait long for a table.

Favorite snack: Hands down. Corn Dog Castle. I am deeply madly in love with the corn dogs from Corn Dog Castle. I can eat these all day long. Especially the spicy hot link ones. Oooh, I'm drooling..

I am so glad you found this thread and posted on it! You have a lot of great ideas!

We got lucky when we ate at Wine Country Trattoria last year in December (weekend before Christmas). There was nobody there and we got seated right away, and they gave us Dreams pins when they saw our b-day buttons. Great meatball sandwiches there, too!

With Carnation, however, there is always a hideous wait no matter what meal we have gone there for or what time of day - we have done all three meals there as well as a separate "dessert meal visit", and the line is always bad because the seating is limited. The only thing that saves some time for us is that often, there are larger groups of 5 or 6 people in front of us, and we may have only 2 or 3 folks, so if they have a table that opens up that can only seat two or three, then we get seated before the group of five or six who have been waiting longer! But that is just sheer luck. I actually think that, of all the restaurants we have eaten at, Carnation is the one where we need the PS the MOST, with Goofy's a close second. But we love Carnation so if we have to do a PS to make sure our wait is short, then so be it. I know my friends don't like the idea of me calling for PS because they like to be spontaneous about where we eat, depending on our moods, and they don't like to be locked into a time for eating. They would rather we wait until we KNOW we are hungry rather than eat at a designated time. But when we end up standing in line for 45 minutes just to get a table, they start to see the light about the PS!

My absolute favorite is Rancho Del Zocalo at Big Thunder Railroad. Next would be Pilot's Grill in DCA. White Water Snacks at the GCH. And I like the coffee place on Main Street (can't remember the name sorry). Oh and Tortilla Jo's in DTD. But, we're strictly casual and don't often pay to eat in the table service restaurants. The character breakfast at PCH Grill in PPH is nice, but it's very expensive!

The coffee place you are talking about is the Market House, maybe? Or Blue Ribbon Bakery? Yes, the character breakfasts are notorious for being good - great buffet spreads - but very costly. I talked a friend of mine who went to DL the other day into taking her son and mom into Goofy's Kitchen for the character breakfast buffet, and they LOVED it. They loved the food, but they agreed that if the food had not been great, they would not go back just to see Goofy and company!
