Where Are Your Favorite Places To Dine, And To Snack At Dl. And At DCA?

I remember it well. And there was also a club there that was like a Canadian Mounty place that was a kick. There used to a lot of different places there before the remodeling.

Some of my favorites are

Breakfast:
LOVE LOVE LOVE Lilo & Stitch Character Breakfast - amazing yummy selection, with a few out of the ordinary treats! Also, the bacon in Disneyland is so awesome - I don't eat bacon anywhere else!

Snacks:
Personally I love the chocolate covered bananas, I don't think I have ever had a whole churro to my self (thanks to my kids!:rotfl:) It wouldn't be DL without having a dole whip.

Lunch:
My favorite place hands down is Pilot's Grill in DCA. I love the Wild Bleu Yonder Burgers, they are so fab!!!!!!!! The combos come with fries - but I always get the little yummy side salad. We go there every trip! Super yummy!

I am also a big fan of Bengal BBQ - love it!

For dinner, I don't really have a favorite place or one certain thing that i love to eat. I try to eat on the healthier side.... so I am looking forward to finding a new favorite dinner item next trip!!!!

I was surprised to see that so many ppl like Hungry Bear, everytime I have thought to go there, the lines have been so long that we just end up leaving, maybe next time I will stick around?

I feel like I am forgetting something........????? Maybe I will remmeber later and post it when i remember! LOL!

Oh my goodness, you're right, Kaoden39! When I was struggling to try to recall the name of that darn DLH coffee shop (where I ate a bunch of times), I was also attempting to visualize the other places that were in the old version of the DLH, pre-remodel. You just jogged my memory of some of them. I will actually have to look up and old book or brochure for DLH so I can see the list of what used to be there because the name of that coffee shop is going to drive me nuts. All I recall is a little restaurant called Mazie's, but that was not the coffee shop.

Yes, the Mounty-type place you are talking about was a club of some kind, and I remember going in there in 1991 with a big group of people. I think it was a ground level place. Two of my male friends got up and did karaoke. And other customers were dancing. Then, also along those same lines of DLH 'nightlife,' there was ANOTHER club upstairs in one of the buildings that was like a dance club/lounge, and when I went with a bunch of girlfriends, two of them would stay in the room at DLH and the rest of us would go have cocktails in this lounge I am thinking of. There was sort of a 'stage' or platform of some kind, and people got up there to dance. And just like in any other club, there was a cheesy guy with an unbuttoned shirt and gold chains, making a spectacle of himself, doing some crazy dance involving zig-zag movements with his arms! It was hilarious and we could not stop giggling. Then again, we were probably tipsy from daiquiris and pina coladas.

And then there was a toy store, which was situated next to a sports clothing type of shop. There were other shops aorund there too that are no longer around. I kind of miss the old DLH because at Christmas, they had Candy Cane Lane, which was great!

I agree with you. Disneyland and DLH have great-tasting bacon! I don't know what they do to it but I never eat it at home, and when I am there I can chow down on a bunch of it. Also, Bengal BBQ used to sell these things that I liked better than Dole Whips. They were not pineapple. They were lemon and orange whips swirled and mushed together. They were SO amazingly yummy and refreshing, I could not fathom why they stopped making them.

When we went in 2004 I was shocked at the changes. I love the way it is but I miss things like the ungerwater video arcade too. And there was this fantastic mexican restaurant that if memory serves me right it was on the bottom floor of the Sierra Tower. So was that Mounty Bar. I was just old enough to go to bars legally in 1983 so I visited a few bars. I am showing my advanced age.

I remember the arcade. Vaguely recall the Mexican place. Yeah, now that we are tossing around the places that used to be in DLH, it seems like they did have a bit of a 'nightlife' there with the Mounty place and the lounge/dance club I am thinking of. I wonder why they got rid of both of them. I guess because DTD was going to be opening and people could just go there to drink! And of course, they had the little pedal boats that you could scoot around the marina in. There were also little statues of bears and other things that we took silly pictures with. My age is pretty advanced too. I don't think I am too far behind you!

Since they got rid of Candy Cane Lane when they remodeled DLH, I WISH the GCH would add something holiday-ish at Christmas, like its sister hotel, the Grand Floridian, does. GFH has a big gingerbread house in its lobby that serves as a shop that sells mini versions of the gingerbread house and other candy treats, from what I have read and heard. I don't know why the GCH doesn't hop to it and start doing something. I mean, most of us on here agree that GCH is a lovely hotel to stay in around the holidays, but their prices are so high that they need to start adding something extra in that huge lobby around Christmas other than the huge tree and the carolers!

Or, really, what they should do is turn the entire pathway between DLH and PPH, and every walkway leading to DTD or around that whole area, into a new and improved Candy Cane Lane. They could totally deck it out with holiday stuff and candy canes and fake snow and all the stuff they did at the old DLH. I can just picture twinkling lights and decorations all up and down the paths. It would be beautiful.

There is nothing like the DLR during the holiday season. We were there in 2004 in December and the only thing I might change is I would decorate DTD more Christmasy.

Yes, I would say that too. No matter how magical Disneyland and the whole resort is any time of year, there is something extra special about it during the holidays. That is why I like staying at the GCH during that time of year IF I can afford it. It is the perfect hotel for the holidays - all warm and cozy and wintry! I think Disneyland and the holidays blend perfectly together - like hot chocolate and whipped cream - because there are so many clever ways they can use the Disney characters and images to decorate, and so many ways they can exercise their excellent attention to detail, their unique merchandise, and the ornaments and decorations and special holiday treats & surprises seem to just complement the whole Disney experience and enhance it. It is like sensory overload, walking into Disneyland during the holidays. But they do need to do MORE at DTD and DLH and PPH, and as stated earlier, all the walkways in between are just begging for holiday touches.

Oh, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact that they do the holiday versions of HM and IASW. I love the fact that WDW does NOT have those versions. I hope it stays that way. I want something else to be exclusive to California! WDW has enough! I almost wish they would do MORE rides in DL in holiday motif, but they can't close down the whole park for two weeks while they revamp rides, so they can't do too many. If you have been on IASW and HM in their holiday versions, you will know how cool they are.

What OTHER rides in Disneyland should be redone in a holiday motif? We should start a new thread on that!

Sorry, but I cannot agree about HMH, for I do not like nor approve of the theming that is used on, in, and in the front of the Haunted Mansion, elsewhere, I have been heavily criticized for my extreme dislike towards that theming taking over the HM, and for such a long time that it does, as well! too long!
If one enjoys it, fine, however, I am not one of those people.

You are actually the second person today who has said they do not like it, so there may be more of that opinion out there than one expects! I just liked that it was something different for 3+ months. I was so used to the old HM that I liked something new being done with it, as I love the IASW re-do. But I wouldn't mind if they re-did some other rides in a holiday motif and only did HM every other year or something. I just wonder what people who don't really care for Nightmare Before Christmas think of the HM Holiday?

For myself, it is not that I dislike the movie or its associated merchandising, but rather, I do not see nbc's theming as being the most appropriate for the HM, to say the least, frankly it makes me cringe, and the reason for that being, nbc's theming is the polar opposite of the architecture, design and decor, not to mention the history, both actual and perceived, of the Haunted Mansion, so therefore most unsuitable for such decorating, to say the least.
If the nbc theming was done, every other year, I would not mind that so terribly.
Like I have stated elsewhere, elsewhere being another site, that I like, but I inadvertently mind you, irritated apparently quite greatly all the same, some people, by my statements, which is one of the reasons why I have not visited lately, nor do I feel as comfortable there, as I once had. Anyway, I would love to see, for Oct. the HM, decorated most wonderfully and beautifully depicting Victorian style and charm, and spookiness, and then for Christmas, traditional design, and style, that would be most suitable for again, this particular mansion. To me, that would be awesome! and I would have a field day, planning if I could, the new holiday designs, I love vintage Halloween and Christmas, and between what I know, and can research, wow! too bad that I do not work for Dl!

lol well i dont like it its not a movie i can watch more then once a season barely that and i hate that its all over HM all the time lol I wish HM was more christmasy. reguler christmas stuff lol not nightmare before christmas.

But I have been getting use to it since its how it is when i go lol (next year if we get ap and go feb and sep then we will see it normal finely..)

but i really cant stand that movie

You have some good ideas! You would probably do well to work for Disney. I do think that DL will probably eventually start doing the holiday versions of HM and IASW down in WDW, and moving them out of DL, but they may start revamping other rides in DL. In fact, I started a thread last night asking what other DL rides would you like to see done in a holiday motif like IASW and HM. We came up with Storybookland Canal Boats, Splash Mountain and I voted for the Tiki Room, all Christmas carols. And one poster said that it would be great to see DL alternate the holiday rides each year. HM and IASW one year, then the other rides the next year, and so on.

Wow! This is really interesting to me to find all this out today. I think I just assumed that everyone loved something different being done with the old rides, but I am definitely seeing that this HM-NBC is a love it or hate it type of thing. There is no gray area there. You either love it or hate it. I am not the big NBC fan that some of my friends are. They like the holiday HM because of the NBC motif, but it is a little macabre. I have to say though, that I am such a fan of the detailed work that Disney puts into their rides, that I may not be a big NBC fan, but I LOVE all the specific little details that they changed in the ride. I mean, it really becomes a whole different ride for those three months. It is new stuff to look at and observe and look for Hidden Mickeys in for me!

Sherry,

I love the changes to the HMH and IASW done during the holidays. I find the overlay is campy and that alone makes it fun. The wonderful thing about America is we all have our own opinions and we can. :goodvibes

Yes, the IASWH is especially campy and hokey, but I love it! I love the subtle little whiff of peppermint that you get when you sail through the 'candy factory.' Everything is so colorful. It really is a feast for the eyes. And over on the HMH, everything is so transformed from inch to inch that, to me, it always seems like a totally different ride. I feel like I have to study every dark corner to see what is new. But I am interested in hearing from the folks who do NOT like it, because as I said earlier, I guess I just assumed that everyone loved the seasonal changes, and it never occurred to me that anyone didn't! So I like hearing the different opinions on the subject! I was saying on my 'Other Holiday Versions of Rides' thread last night that, in a perfect world, I wish Disney could re-do ALL the rides for the holidays, so the park can totally be transformed from the inside out, every corner of it, but they would have to shut down DL for a while and they could never do that. Plus, it would be hard to make a holiday version of, let's say, Space Mountain! Ooooh, and can you imagine the lines for each and every ride if they ever decided to do something outrageous like that? Yikes. And most of the rides in Fantasyland are basically too short for an overlay, but they should definitely add one or two more for the holidays. And then, eventually, they will pass on the holiday overlays to WDW and we will have something else campy to giggle at.

Just looking to see if anyone else might have tasty tips, advice and renderings to offer? :)
