What the heck, I'll jump in here too.
Here is a visual history of my progress.
240 was my highest weight (I was that weight for about a year in 2003-2004). Then I managed to lose 25 pounds (and one jacket size) to hit 215 before my wedding in August 2005. I basically took all of 2006 off, and in 2007 I was still 215 when I restarted my efforts. I started 2008 around 180, and am now around 162. I was in the 155 range late last year, but gained about 10 of it back over the holidays.
1. How has your weight loss (so far) affected your life?
More ways than I can count.
- I don't hate shopping for clothes anymore.
- I'm no longer self conscious that people are staring at me and laughing at me behind my back.
- I have more energy than I ever thought possible.
- I have tons more self confidence than at any other point in my life.
- I learned to love myself again.
- I can climb a flight of stairs and still talk normally (no huffing and puffing) afterwards.
- I don't have to chomp on Tums every night to calm heartburn.
- I can sleep without having an aching back in the morning.
Plus, when I see people I haven't seen in a while, I always get told that they don't recognize me, which is a little strange for some reason.
And the list just goes on and on.
2. How have you managed to stay motivated?
Honestly, I'm just scared to death of putting the weight back on. And as morbid as it sounds, I'm also terrified of dying young. That's the other thing that keeps me going.
3. If you choose to share, HOW have you achieved your success?
Weight Watchers. First online, then just following the plan on my own. Plus, as much as I HATE exercising (I can be a real lazy SOB), I try to get at least 45-60 minutes of exercise a night. During the summer that is usually taking my dog for a nice long walk or a slightly shorter jog. But I'm also getting into a good resistance training routine to go along with the various exercise tapes/DVD's that I've accumulated.
4. If you choose to share, what is your current loss to date?
Around 80 pounds since I first started sometime in 2005.
ETA: I'd be remiss if I didn't add that I've been aided greatly by the DISappearing Peeps. They've always been there to pick me back up when I've stumbled, and to offer advice and support when needed. So I doubt I would have had as much success as I've had without them.
