Thanks. My son keeps me motivated, and sadly, my mom has multiple health issues, obesity and lifestyle related, and I saw myself headed down the same path and wanted to change it. I joined ww almost 3 years ago, right after a big health scare with my mom, and I said at that time that I would not give up, no matter how long it takes. I want to be be able to keep up with my son, and as I get older, I want to be active and I don't want to be a burden on him. The past year, I've been going up and down with the same 5 pounds, but in years past, I had just yo-yo'd right back up over 200. This time it is definitely different, and I am more in control than I ever was, and I will keep plugging away.

Funny -- I have some of the same motivations. My mom is a type 2 diabetic and diabetes run in my family on my Dad's side. My other big motivator was my 15 yo DD, about 2 yrs ago I realized she was getting chunky. I also realized that it was all my fault. (she was a size 13 or so when she was 12. she's an 8/10 now...) My bad choices were leading to her unhealthy behaviors. It continues to be one of my primary motivators.

Getting under 200 was a big milestone for me... I call it "one-derland" -- it's been a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time since I weighed under 200. I've stayed there for the last 7 months now!!

Great comments mikamah!!!

Thank you so much Ms. H!!  It is so nice to have a support system here to help eachother.

I am so impressed by everyone's progress! I only wish I could do better!:worried: It has been a hard road and I have just started...:faint:

My small goal is 60 in 6!!! I have 6 months till DH and I go to WDW and I want to lose 60 pounds by then.:woohoo: The good thing is that I think I got DH to do it with me!!! He has always been supportive of me losing weight, but now he will be on a plan with me.:yay:

I was thinking we should both try WW, but not sure. We are trying it by ourselves by changing habits.

Have a great week everyone! Keep up the great work!

6 months is approximately 24 weeks...
at 2 lbs per week (which is the HEALTHY WAY to lose) thats 58 lbs.

Maybe you can adjust your goal to 50 in 6? That seems a little more realistic to me and a reachable goal!

I totally understand about it being a hard road... The first month was the hardest for me, but once I got in the "groove" it got easier and now I hardly think about it anymore...

I can certainly sing the WW praises... I LOVE the program. I really needed "structure" more than just "I'm going to make better choices" because of my personality. Try a meeting & see what you think... PM me w/any questions...

The most amazing things I have learned while doing WW:

1. The things you "think" are healthy at restaurants usually ARE NOT
2. Little things are what sabotage you (ie. salad dressing & croutons)
3. Exercise really does make you feel different
4. I am WORTH the extra time, money, and energy this plan takes!!!

Great response, Ms. Heimlich to Evita.

Evita, I have to echo some of what Ms. Heimlich said. Try not to set goals that are too high try smaller goals as they are easier to attain and more doable. I would suggest 10 pound goals, this way every time you reach ten pounds you have osmething to celebrate and the results do not seem so daunting. Adorable picture of you and your DH too! I have nothing but praise for WW, so I think it is a wonderful program and definitely worth looking into, the insight Ms. Heimlich lists is spot on!

Mik, you look mahvalous dahling!!!! You have been doing such a wonderful job and I am so proud of you!!! And DS is getting so big, he looks adorable!

cepmom, it is so wonderful to put a face with the screen name!! You look fabulous!!

You know what? You guys are right....

I guess I did not think of the math and 6 months is about 24 weeks!:scared1:

I want to do more than 2 pounds a week but I also need to realize that I need to be realistic.

Thank you everyone for your support! I think we will try WW. I did it LONG time ago...but thanks to Ms. H I want to try again.:thumbsup2

Here's to 50 in 6!!!:moped:

Hey Darlin'!!!

I just went back and looked at my spreadsheet from the day I started weight watchers. My first 24 weeks, I lost a total of 40 lbs.

Ok, how much of a geek am I for having a "spreadsheet?"

I feel like I was "pretty good" those first few months, and the weight came off true and steady. I think the 50 lb goal is a lofty one, but certainly doable. Be focused and think everyday about what you REALLY want!!! Also -- don't be afraid to ask for help, from your DH, your family, friends or your "dis" friends!!!

Ms. H

Okay, I had to pull out the old diary (not a spreadsheet, but close enough) out of curiosity and from the time I got really serious in Feb 2003 until July 2003....exactly 23 weeks, I lost 34 pounds. Five months prior to that I half-heartedly was losing weight and I lost 9 pounds in 5 months. I can't find my diary from after July 2003, so I am not sure the follow on weeks, but my total weight loss is a little over 65 pounds and it took me from September 2002 until April 2004.

Im still losing.. Im between 35-40 pounds down so far..

Heres some before..

UGH!! From end of January...

Mik, you look mahvalous dahling!!!! You have been doing such a wonderful job and I am so proud of you!!! And DS is getting so big, he looks adorable!
Thanks Debbi. He is getting so big, it's amazing how much he has changed in one year of kindergarten. He is so much fun.
You look wonderful too. I love seeing everyone's pictures and having a face to the names.

Evita_W- you and your husband are so adorable. You look very happy. That is great. I love ww, and totally agree with all that Ms H. and tiggerlover said. Slow and steady is the way to go, even though we all want it gone instantly, we didn't gain the weight instantly, and it takes time to come off. I think 2 pounds a week is a very reasonable goal, and it tends to come off quicker in the beginning. I looked up when I joined ww and I am a slow loser and only lost 18 pounds in my first 24 weeks, but that was a while ago, and they are still gone. Good luck to you. You can do this!!

bettyann29- congratulations on your loss!! You can definitely see the difference.

Getting under 200 was a big milestone for me... I call it "one-derland" -- it's been a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time since I weighed under 200. I've stayed there for the last 7 months now!!
Congrats ms. Heimlich. I love finally being in one-derland too. It took a long time for me to get there, and I really think I will never go back. I've been yo-yoing between 185-190, and really want to get to 180.
Funny -- I have some of the same motivations. My mom is a type 2 diabetic and diabetes run in my family on my Dad's side. My other big motivator was my 15 yo DD, about 2 yrs ago I realized she was getting chunky. I also realized that it was all my fault. (she was a size 13 or so when she was 12. she's an 8/10 now...) It sounds like you've turned you daughter down the healthy path. My son is very active, and if I'm on a good healthy eating roll, he'll be fine, but he'd love to eat mcdonalds every night. And some crazy weeks, it's hard to cook and eat healthy every night. Kids are definitely a good motivator to be healthy. If only my son could motivate me to love housework.

If you are really motivated....50 in 6mos. is not out of line. When I first started WW...I lost 47lbs. in 4 mos. I have since maintained ( for 2 yrs.) at a 5 lb. lighter weight. I am currently on a goal to lose 8 lbs.and tone up by Sept. WDW trip. We will be on the deluxe dining....so I need a good buffer zone. hehehe.

I totally agree with OP about WW. The structure and weekly weighins are a big weight loss incentive. It also taught me that weight loss and healthy eating need to be a lifetime goal.....not just a quick weight loss diet!!!!
WW taught me soooo much about eating healthy. WW gave me the education and confidence I needed...and made me realize that no matter what I ate last week or today......I know what I need to eat tomorrow to remain successful. I also agree to make smaller initial goals...like lose 10lbs. or 10%. And always reward yourself when to reach every goal! I love to go "goal shopping"!!!!!!

You and DH will make a great weight loss duo! You both deserve to be healthy and sucessful!!!

These pictures have been very inspiring. I am going to take my picture in 2 weeks at disney and then take it again when I go back at Christmas.

Congradulations to all of you. Everyone that is still on this journey keep up te good work.
