once in awhile i'll say Jesus Mary and Ralph.Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Not an approved substitution, but is always followed with "pray for ______" ...at least in theory. If it isn't there, it is implied. When very upset, "all the saints" follows, too.

My mother once said the s-word in front of him and he got all offended and said, "Gramma, say 'holy crap!'"
Oh. My mom wouldn't say any swear words when I was little. She will say butt now but that is about it. She wouldn't let us say heck or darn because they were "by words". I never really understood what "by words" meant but that is what she would say was the reason we shouldn't say them.
She also used to say that people who use swear words don't have large enough vocabularies to express themselves. Now that I am older I think "nah - sometimes they are the perfect word for what you are trying to express" - be it an owie, frustration, anger or whatever.
