When you don't get a gift in return

sounds like I am in the majority (for once). My thoughts are: if the person I gave the gift to does not acknowledge the gift, they probably didn't appreciate it. So I'll not be wasting my time, effort or money in the future.

While I do agree that I don't give a gift expecting something in return, I would buy for children if their parents bought something for mine. If it had just happened one year, I'd overlook it, but after happening a couple times, I'd stop sending gifts, or at least send a smaller gift.

So the person least caring, worst manners and rudest behavior is the one to copy. No wonder the world is so sad sometimes. Everyone might as well just buy for themselves.
