Sorry I have only gotten to post 5 and this really irritates me... I am sorry if I am a germaphobe... But I have had a bone marrow transplant, No spleen (to fight off bacterial infections) leaving me with a compromised immune system. It SUCKS... I didn't ask for this... If removing A comforter that 9million people have used in between washings makes me a germaphobe..then fine. I get All kinds of colds each year, and It takes me twice as long to recover because of my immune system. After what I have been through...that is not changing I will take the steps I can to NOT get sick... Your a nurse..shame on u...u should know better than to make such comments.

I am sorry but posts like yours annoy me!!!! You know you are a very rare individual and when people talk on discussion boards they are talking in generalities not a specific rare case. So to turn it back around shame on you, you should know better.

What do you want asterisks after every statement to give the list of exceptions to the generality no matter how rare?

k - let's all take a step back and relax here.

I don't want to put words in the nurses mouth.. but I am DEAD sure she was speaking about otherwise healthy individuals who take extraordinary steps .. not just taking the comforter off the bed.. but wiping down everything with anti-bacterial/microbial in the entire room.. washing the bathroom floor themselves etc..

NOT about those with compromised immune systems or with special health needs... Of course those people need to take steps to protect themselves and I would suggest requesting the optional VIP cleaning for your room in those cases.

Let's just all calm down please. There is NO NEED to get bent out of shape here. None.

Thanks.

Though, I haven't as gone as far as bringing my own bedding, I am always nervous about sleeping in hotel beds. After seeing Dateline, i thoroughly inspect the sheets for stains, hair, or bugs. I also bring my own lysol to sanitize the bathroom, tv remote, telephone and light switches.

After taking microbiology class, I am careful to wash my hands and I absolutely hate touching the salt and pepper shakers in restaurants. So, you are not alone in avoiding those cooties.:)

While I don't think of myself as a "germaphobe" I do wipe the room down with clorox wipes and use an hospital sanitizer bomb on the room each trip. This will kill anything that might get us sick and gives me peace of mind. It seems like the Norovirus has always just hit right before we go in September. Apparently I have no tolerance for this virus and after experiencing it for two trips in a row, I won't take chances.

That being said, to each his own and comfort level. Everyone is different and has a right to think and feel whatever they desire, after all this is America.

After we bomb the room we use the comforter and have had no norovirus issues since our first two trips. I will say that we use no antibacterial products in our home and we are rarely sick.

Mom used to say you have to eat a ton of dirt before you die!! I don't think our grandparents worried so much about germs and all of mine lived into their 90's!!

You're right. Nurse Darcy is right, way too much sterilization going on..I'm surprised people don't wrap themselves in bubble wrap:rotfl2:. Your immune system needs practice, people! :)

I wash my hands and I wipe down the room when we check in..that's it.I don't take off the bedspread and I walk around barefoot in the room. Horror of horrors, I even touch the handrails on occasion in the parks!!:scared1:FWIW, I have never gotten sick at WDW-this is after seven trips.

where do you purchase the hospital sanitizer bomb at...please tell..

Wow - I travel all the time, and have never worried about the bedspread. I happily use them without a care.

I mean really- so maybe newlyweds had sex on the blanket two days ago. Who cares?

I admit my husband sometimes throws himself on the bed after a shower - naked. He is still alive.

Germaphobes creep me out way more than the blankets.
LOL..:thumbsup2 I have to admit, I got an amusing visual from this post-germaphobes all across the DIS freaked out..

Some of these same people use the hot tubs, I'm sure..hot tubs are basically a hot stew of shed skin cells and hair.:confused3

MRSA, VRE, C-Diff--all stem from an over use of antibiotics. The germs become resistant to the medication. You then need stronger and more powerful antibiotics to try and fight off the germs. The same thing can/will happen when we use antibacterial agents on everything. The over use of these agents will eventually lead the germs to develop resistants to them.

Nurse Darcy is correct that the general population needs to expose itself a little more to everyday germs. Our parents used to throw us outside to play in the mud! Of course there are always exceptions (like Jenn) who do need to pay particular attention to the situation they place themselves in. Although these folks usually are aware they have compromised immune systems. I don't believe that Nurse Darcy was in any way referring to these specific individuals but was talking about the general public.

The great thing about the bedspread is if you want it you have it and if you don't you can throw it in the closet. But most of all your in Disney--so go relax and have fun! There are far more germs on the rides you go on and I am sure most people are not taking the time to wipe them down with their wipes!!

I started a post a few weeks ago asking if the bedspreads and blankets are changed. I am far from a germophobe, I have never bought a can of Lysol in my life. However, I prefer to avoid other people's body fluids unless we are on at least a first name basis.

Do they change the sheets between guest. I would really hate to resort to bringing my own set of sheets just becuse Disney is going green

They do they do!!

Its been confirmed, the sheets are fine

Many hotels, including Disney, only change the bedspreads every so many days and not necessarily between guests.

If you're worried, don't use your bedspread

Thank you so much that puts my mind at ease. Now that I think about it would it be aginst the health code if they did not change between gust

They may not change bedsheets for your stay becuase you'll be using the same sheets. They change it like every two days or three days. But as soon as the guest is checked out, they change everything!!!

Some people bring their own sheets down, but I'm pretty sure once you get in your room, you can ask mousekeeping to vome and change your sheets with you standing right there!! That might make you feel at ease!!!!:thumbsup2;)

As long as they don't judge me I will do that

I highly doubt that they'll judge you!!! I pretty sure you wouldn't be the first person to do that!! LOL!!!

My MIL bring down Lysol and sprays down everything!!! No matter if the person is just leaving the room..she still sprays it down!! But..that's her. It would be no different for you!! Even if they tell you that they just changed it like an hour or so ago..tell them you want a new sheet and stand firm.

If they come right away, awesome!! But..it may take a bit because the Mousekeeper might be doin another room. I'd give her a tip if she does it very nice..especially a Disney animal towel!!! OOOOO!!! I want one of those now!!! LOL!!!

Take me to my room.

I will admit, I do check for bed bugs and obvious signs of prior activity; however, I do not fumigate and de germify before I lie. :)
