When you arrive and take your bedspread off your bed and what do you cover up with...do you bring your own or call housekeeping for one that you know is clean...
thanks...

I usually bring two blankets with me (one really cheap one for under us and one heavier one for over us) and pack them in those bags that you remove the air from - they don't take up much room and it makes me feel better about sleeping on a bed thousands have slept on before me....plus I have very sensitive skin and it can't take the heavy bleach in the sheets.

I usually sleep under the top sheet and the soft blanket (it might not get washed either, but at least it seems cleaner).

During one stay, I kept trying to leave the comforter in the closet and the mousekeeper kept pulling it out and putting it on our bed. I tried to tell her what I wanted (which was to take the comforter away), but she did not seem to understand what I was saying. There was a language barrier. Oh, well....

All you germophobes need to expose yourself more. Before you flame me, let me explain. You have a kid, take him to daycare for the first time and he gets sick. . .seems he is sick every week. Eventually your child stops being sick. This is because his own body develops antibodies to the germs he picks up in Daycare. We have sterilized ourselves so much that we can't function. We keep getting sick because our immune system can't handle the new germs.

I take the comforter off because it is sooo darn stiff and heavy - usually I just fold it down on the bed. The new refurbed rooms at the POP had the brand new ones that wouldn't fold right...lol They were too stiff and fitted at the corners.

I just fold them down - the soft ones are fine and you can request another one if you like.

HTH :)

Thanks to all ...

And for Nurse.Nancy...my Mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...so Happy Easter to you...I will keep my germophobia thoughts to myself...

Mom used to say you have to eat a ton of dirt before you die!! I don't think our grandparents worried so much about germs and all of mine lived into their 90's!!

Hmmm...I've read Nurse Darcy's post a couple times to find any not-so-nice things she supposedly said. Couldn't find anything. She's just trying to help. She does have a point. I try not to overly protect my family from the many germs out there and at school and I find the parents who follow the kids around with wipes and antibacterial gels are the ones whose kids miss the most school because their kids are sick all the time. My ds8's best friend - I kid you not - misses at least one day a week. His mother is constantly over him, wiping everything down.

I am a little superstitious though so I won't outright say it (don't want to jinx them!)...but my kids are pretty proud of their 100% attendance certificates every semester.

As for bed bugs, which is what you should really look for in hotels, they say lift the sheets and look in the hems of the mattresses. At least that's what I've heard and I try to check as soon as we get to the room.

nurse.darcy was saying something nice, it just differed from your opinion. Message boards have all types of opinions and I agree with hers. I have been to Disney 7 times in the last 2 1/2 years and the bedspreads have never made me sick. I am like Tweevil sometimes the bedspread is just too stiff and we fold it down.

I totally agree.

For those who simply don't like the feel, the weight or smell..that's cool. T0 each their own. It's actually pretty amazing what our bodies can fight off with out a second thought.

I'm a big fan of Hotel bedding in nicer hotels.

no flames here ... my DH has been telling me this for awhile now because I am a walking germophobe  ... I guess maybe my dh could have been --- correct?! ... and I should have been listening to him?! :faint:  :) ...

:rotfl2: We won't tell him you just said that ;).

I think Nurse.Darcy makes some very valid points. Germs are everywhere. My DD's have not done the daycare thing, since I am a SAHM so I have noticed that when they start school they do get more little colds than other kids since they have not had as much exposer to germs

As far as the bedspread goes, I take it off to sleep because I am a very warm person and it makes me too hot. A lot of times my kids take them off too. I am very freaked about bed bugs though. The thought of them makes me uncomfortable.

I agree with Nurse Darcy. I realize for someone with am impaired or weak immune system, it's important to take precautions, but most of us aren't like that. My grandmother is a retired nurse, and while she does tell me to wash my hands often, she says to use NON anti-bacterial soap!

I think the bedspread thing bothers me more in my head than anything else. But I'm never cold enough to use it anyways.

I had mono when I was 10 and it weakened my immune system. In middle school, I was absent more than any other student because I was always sick. Once I started to be less anal about germs, I got sick less often.

I don't think taking the bedspread off has to do with being a germophobe. They don't wash them between guests! People sleep on top of them possibly without clothing. Adults have relations on them and they don't get washed. Babies nasty diapers are changed on beds. I don't want to be sitting on any of that. I am not a germophobe. Kids get sick, adults get sick, it happens. I don't want to sleep under your body fluids. Ever.

Ditto!

If you don't want the bedspread that is there when you arrive, can't you call housekeeping and ask for a new one?
