Yup, all non-essential appointments and elective matters (the ones where the hospitals actually make money in) are being cancelled to prepare for the worst and save the PPE.
Right now it seems to be more of PPE, ventilators, ICU beds that are the concern than overall hospital occupancy. The hospitals did not have a stock pile to access, so have kind of been creating one retroactively by cancelling elective procedures. And it's the elective procedures that keeps the hospitals funded. So while some areas in health care are being over burdened, other's are at a standstill, with some layoffs even happening.

I would hope as a first responder you would understand the need for this. PD/FD/EMS don't need to be wasting their time and limited resources with having to save someone who has an accident while out joyriding.
https://www.oapff.org/Just so you see I wasn’t dreaming about the term. And I don’t personally don’t know anyone I work with that isn’t out and about. Heck we take the rig out to Jungle Jim’s just to get out. At times. We certainly aren’t going to live like hermits. Life goes on. I’m living mine. Kids have friends over now for an Easter sleep over. Can’t stop being normal.
We are both fire and ems. That’s the norm in Ohio
One run The rig is out. The next on the medic.

I'm a Barca fan. When I watch Premiere League, I mainly watch Man City matches.
Wait. Man City? Oh no. Well. Better than Chelsea guess. Lol. My co worker got to goto Barcelona for wife’s work earned trip reward or something like that. They loved it there. Went to Monaco also. Jeez. That would have been great.

Hey. You can get a Lego set for your club.

You take the rig out for errands!? I hope you at least try to pass it off as driver training. Our Fire Chief would be fired if his crew did that.

What I think will happen changes on a daily basis, so I didn't vote. I am leaning toward some states pushing for June 1, and other states, like August/September (will the possibility of some current non-essentials being allowed to reopen sooner, but not everyone). The ones pushing for June 1 will have 2nd waves, the states that delay might have weaker 2nd waves or not at all. The states and communities will break along political lines so there will be lots of finger pointing and I told you so's.

I get the economy is an issue, but it's not like everyone can go back to work and everything will be fine. The question I ask about small businesses is, "How many of your customers can you afford to lose before your business is no longer viable?" Obviously, 100% shut down is a problem. But I hear so many people saying that they aren't going to go back to normal if they think their community is trying to reopen to soon. The mayor, governor can say all they want, but they aren't going to go back to eating out and shopping at the mall or whatever they need to do besides their job, if they HAVE to. Some people will go back as if none of this happened, but do they represent enough customers that they can keep places in business? Can places lose 25% of their usual business, 50%, where is the dividing line? Also, I think the impetus for providing government help, or even landlords delaying rent, is an easier "sell" when places are facing 100% loss of customers vs 25%, 30%, etc. Everyone will get themselves worked up over who and how much, when speed is of an essence.

It might make us feel better if people are going to work and places are open. But unless people feel truly safe...it will be a temporary panacea as places realize one by one, they still don't have enough customers, government ordered social distancing or not. Then it will be death by 1000 cuts.

Well how else do we go from place to place. We all do it. Columbus fire. Cleveland. All the way down to smaller cities. We are still in service. Got to get food. Etc. Can’t spend all day in the station. We call it. Hydrant location training.
When I lived in L.A. they are out all the time seeing folks and driving around. That was the military days. I actually miss SoCal.

On a side note. I do miss Chinese food. They are ALL closed. Even for carry out. Yet all other restaurants are open for carry out. I could eat Chinese everyday. I do miss that for sure.

I call it a boondoggle. Even places that don't normally do delivery will deliver to the fire station. Right now, they are getting free food delivered.

Oh we get some free pizza for sure. But day is more enjoyable going out and about. Chatting with folks and kids. Can’t do that on runs.

Glad you're having fun. Meanwhile, you are needlessy exposing all those people to the risk of infection. Now I know you're not a true first responder.

This guy is a hero. One of the few left remaining alive along with Buzz. Love all those NASA guys. Especially the Mercury 7 men. Gordon Cooper is a distant relative.

Not to nitpick, but neither Lovell or Aldrin is a Mercury 7 astronaut. Lovell was in the second group and Aldrin was in the third.

But yes, there is some merit to the thinking that occurred in 1970. Scientists and engineers who had expertise in particular fields were acknowledged as experts, and listened to when developing plans to overcome crises. I think there are certainly some times in this present circumstance where listening to experts would do us all good.

Oh I know. I was speaking about the M-7 men for their heroics. Can’t imagine that. On top of that rocket not knowing whether hot will be a success. I mean the iPhone has more computer power. It’s really amazing to think about it. Heck the iPhone has more than the shuttle even.
Yeager deserved to be a Mercury man. But he was a rebel. So...

I'm watching Die Hard movies this weekend. The tech back in the 90s was something else. I kinda miss the simplicity of pagers.
