i got my docs today for my 1/3/04 cruise. We are staying in a Cat 3. I have spoken to people in the past that have gotten a letter before their cruise explaining a little about where to meet on board.

Has anyone that has cruised lately in concierge experienced this? What was your first contact with the concierge staff?

We've cruised Disney twice, both times in a Cat 2. I didn't get a letter either time. The first time I saw the concierge on the 1st cruise was when thy knocked on our door at about 3:00 to see if we needed any reservations or anything, since we didn't go to the concierge meeting. (We didn't know there was one)
The 2nd cruise, no letter. I asked at check-in what time and where the concierge meeting was, and I went to that, met the team, and made any reservations that I hadn't already made...like the spa. The meeting is usually in one of the lounges (Sessions on Magic) at 1:00 embarkation day.
We stayed at the Poly's concierge before the 1st cruise, and I did get a letter from them....just not the ship. I've heard that some people do, some don't. I don't know why it is different for some people.

We stayed in a Cat 3 this past August. We did not get any letter in advance of the cruise. We did go to the Concierge meeting in Sessions when we boarded the ship.::yes:: We made our reservations and met our staff.

When we stayed in a Cat 3, our first contact with the concierge staff was about 1:30 at the concierge meeting. From reading these boards, I don't believe cat 3 guests ever get letters in advance and that the Cat 1 and 2 sometimes get letters. It seems like they are always trying something different. Also, service does differ between the Magic and Wonder.

I have read that Cat 3 guests were able to contact concierge in advance through a phone number. We did not do this. We went to the concierge meeting right after it started and had no problems getting what we wanted.

We were upgraded to a CAT 3 from a CAT 4 on our first trip last July. Couldn't tell you if a letter would be sent or not prior to the cruise. The cast member at the port who handeled our check in explained that the meeting would be in one of the lounges at 1:00 prior to leaving the port and also had given us the printout that had the location and time to meet our concierge staff.

:D
