took a look at room prices this morning for mud November. We want to stay somewhere where the monorail picks you up or at the cabins. Just checked the prices and contemporary is almost $1200 a night!! When is the best time to book these rooms or is this the normal price.

A room at a monorail resort is quite expensive.

The monorail resorts are always among the most expensive and it get more expensive the closer you get to thanksgiving. The cabins can be a good deal if you have a moderate sized family.

I am aware they are more than the others but $1200 a night is rediculous. Since we have an infant, we would really like to stay in one of those resorts in case of any problems

Keep in mind that the monorail only runs to two of the four parks.

Is the $1,200 a night for a GW 1 br suite or 2 rooms in the tower? Not sure how many are in your party but I plugged in 2 adults and 2 children for mid November dates (14-21) and it shows GW rooms still available at $443.71, tower LV at $575.29 and tower TPV at $575.29 per night. They still have availability for Thanksgiving week also and room rates only jump $30-$50 more per night. Maybe check into renting points for a DVC villa if you need something more than just a standard resort room, could be a less expensive route.

Yes, the prices are ridiculously high for monorail resorts but that's the cost of being so close to the MK. Just like in real life, you pay more for a prime location. Disney isn't any different.

Perhaps you should look into the possibility of renting DVC points from an owner. I don't know what might still be available at this point, but all 3 monorail resorts now have DVC villas as well.

I just want to reserve a room but not get gouged. I can pay the $300 night. What is the cheapest one on the monorail, the Polynesian?

CR Garden Wing Std. View is the least expensive room in a monorail resort. It will still be more than your $300/night limit.

Not sure of your exact dates and how many people staying in the room, but like many PPs said...mid Nov Poly and Contemporary are around $450 range a night for garden view rooms. Wilderness lodge (while not on the monorail, but you did mentions the cabins also) is about $335 a night. Cabins should run anywhere from $350-$450 depending on the dates.

And these are rack rates, right? There could also be a room discount available (I haven't kept up with that because the earliest I can go is January).

Yes, I just gave the rack rates, of course if a discount comes out, then they could be lower if there are any room available. I think the only public offer right now for Nov is free dining. We go in Aug, so are getting 30% off.

Without knowing the exact dates, its hard to say. But there are 3 resorts on the Monorail, Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian.

For 11/16/2015 - 11/22/2015 a family of 4, two adults, two children under ten the rates are as follows:
Grand Floridian Outer Bldg - Garden View $ 556.67
Outer Bldg - Lagoon View $ 607.67

Polynesian Standard View $473 00

Lagoon View $ 638.33
Theme Park View $686 67

Contemporary Garden Wing - Garden View $ 447.00
Tower - Bay Lake View $ 538.67
Tower - Theme Park View $ 578.67

These are Rack Rates (i.e most expensive rate). There is typically a room-only discount offered during time (10% - 30%) but there is no guarantee of availability. Currently there is a free dining offer which can be a good deal depending on how much you eat :) Free dining for these resorts, you pay the Rack Rate but you get 1 Table Service Meal, 1 Quick Service Meal and 1 Snack per night per person.

Hope this helps

Don't really care about the free dining. Just want something easily accessible for my daughter who will be one.

Do the boats from port Orleans and old key west go to Disney and Epcot. Generally how long are those rides.

No only to Downtown Disney

When you say "Disney and Epcot" I assume you mean Magic Kingdom and Epcot, as it is all Disney. The monorail resorts are all Deluxe Resorts and the nightly rate is going to be over your $300/night desire. Maybe the Moderate Resorts and more likely the Value Resorts are what you need to look at for your price range.
But no - none of the Moderate or Value resorts go directly to the Magic Kingdom or to Epcot. That access is what you pay deluxe rates for. The boats from Port Orleans (moderate resort) or Old Key West (Deluxe Villa Resort) do not go to either the MK or Epcot.

Oh ok. Did not know that. Noticed wilderness lodge has a boat that goes directly to magic kingdom. May look at that. Those resorts on the monorail are a little too rich for my blood.

Now do they normally discount rooms in early to mid November.
