When staying at a disney resort how many of you tip your housekeepers

I tip $5 per night that we stay there.

I'm off the belief that I want to show my appreciation to someone that is going to clean up the mess that the 4 of us would leave ( me, DW, DS8 and DD4 ) every day. I know that it may seem too much....but to me...it's no different to me than tipping someone that is performing a service for me over the course of my stay. Besides....I'm the type of person that believes in Karma...the Universe has made it possible for me and my family to spend a huge amount of $$$ on a trip to Disney....giving a little back by helping out someone that is making my stay in DW that much better ( by coming back from a long day at the Parks to a clean room ) is the least I can do.

Tipping is obviously a personal choice....so leave however much, little or nothing that you want.

I used to tip $4 a day (family of 4) and then realized from reading on here that many don't, don't NEED to, isn't a tipping position at WDW.... yet still feel guilty and now tip $2 per day. Feel bad to not leave anything.

And really, all they need to do in our room is give us fresh towels, take out the old ones and make the beds. We dont' eat in the room - no crumbs and vacuuming necessary or anything like that.

Is bell services a tipping position? that's where I never know when is appropriate to tip.
We may call down and have them pick up our bags to transfer them when we do a split stay - usually give $4-5 for that (usually 5 bags we have).

BUT... what about when they are holding our luggage before our DME and we go to pick it up - tip then ALSO?
What about when we go out front there and they call for a cab for us - tip for that ALSO?

I had to edit my post because I remembered that we do, indeed, tip the mousekeepers. We usually leave a few dollars a day. :)

I tip. I don't care if it is not a "tipping" position. These HARD WORKING people are providing a service for me. Have you ever tried to live on $10 an hour? I have and it is not pleasant. I don't have great amounts of money to spend while I'm at Disney but I also believe in showing gratitude for a job well done.

Agreed! :thumbsup2

We tip $10 a day.

We are two "old" fogies that stay on CL.
We never ever have a room that needs to be vacuumed. Our room is spotless always and we leave a five Dollar tip twice a day.

Yes we always do. However, there were a few times when we were disappointed and felt they hardly touched our room, in those cases, we were not too generous. However, if I'm happy with the service we received for the 3 of us I usually leave $5 per day, if I'm not, I might leave $1 or $2 per day.

Every time Bell Services touches our bags, we tip them. Usually about $1-2 pr bag. If they call a cab for us, we give them $1-2.

That $10 an hour is for entry level....those that have been there for awhile are making more than that. There is a reason Disney tells us that housekeeping is not a tippable position.
When I stay in a 'regular' room, vs a villa, I usually make up the bed daily. I am tidy...leave the bathroom area clean, no trash lying around. Basically, all they have to do is leave me fresh toiletries and take out the trash. I hang up my towels in order to reuse them..per Disney's request. But housekeeping continues to remove the hung towels and replace them. They spend about 8 mins in my room. I really don't feel the need to tip for that 8 mins.
But others disagree...up to them to decide what they want to do.

I think that tipping a housekeeper is a personal decision. I choose to leave a tip and while I never leave a mess and will generally haul our towels out myself if the cart is nearby in the hall, I always feel like the service is a tad bit extra special. It probably is not but any time I don't need to scrub the bathroom is a good day for me.

I leave 5 dollars in an envelope marked mousekeeper everyday. That way the person cleaning that day gets the tip.

This is exactly what DH and I do as well. I make the Mousekeeping envelopes ahead of time and have the $$ already in them so it's easy as pie. Pull the one for that day out of the room safe and leave it on the bed.

I am thoroughly shocked that this thread hasn't been closed down. That being said, we tip $3 per day usually, $2 extra if we have turndown, two adults, no kids. When we do DVC stays, we leave $5 for the full cleaning (since it's only once, and a bigger 1BR), and $2 or $3 for Trash and Towel. We leave the money somewhere obvious, usually just under a sheet of paper that says "thanks!" We do this in hotels all across the world, and the housekeepers always know what it is. :)

If we're unhappy with the service for any reason, then the tipping reduces or stops completely.

I agree, it's purely a personal decision, not like wait or bell staff where it's really a necessary part of their income. It's something we choose to do.

I feel like a dummy. I have never tipped for housekeeping...never even thought of it. Now I feel like I've been cheating the workers the whole time.

We don't tip the housekeeping either- unless we're in Mexico or somewhere like that. If everyone left $5 a day times how many rooms they do. It is a personnal decision but we don't.

I always tip at Disney World, and I’m glad to see that most folks on Disboards do too. Since there seems to be a few people who are genuinely unfamiliar with the practice, I was curious to know what a few of the travel experts had to say on the matter. I’ve provided links to their advice concerning tipping the housekeeper/mousekeeper/chambermaid/maid:

'Every day. At least $3 a day. Like others have said,it is a personal choice but to me anyone who cleans my toilet deserves a tip. :goodvibes Anytime we stay at a hotel we leave the housekeeping a tip. I wouldnt want that job! We also tip anyone who calls a cab for us or who opens the door to a cab when we get 'home'. Touches my luggage. Unless there is a problem they get a tip. It may only be a buck but they get something. JMO

I tipped every day my 2nd to last stay, then realized what a pain it was to have to make sure you had enough dollar bills and envelopes for every day for your trip, and just left money in the room after our last day was done.

Now if we have a huge mess to clean up, id leave a tip for that day special, but having to worry about having enough cash on hand was irritating enough to me to just not do it. If we could have added the tip to the room key like dining tips totally would have gone that route. :rolleyes1

Disney is the only location I try to tip as I did not come from a tipping family and am not used to it yet.

No, you are not cheating anyone. Tipping is personal. If you want to leave money you are giving the folks a little extra. If not they were paid by their employer. Your fine ;)

The reason most of us tip on a daily basis rather than at the end of the stay is to make sure that the person who is cleaning the room gets that money each day. I would not want to give one housekeeper the tip for a weeks worth of cleaning if that person only cleaned my room one day. When we travel outside of Disney our stays are generally just a few days so it is not hard to have bills ready for that but while at Disney we stay over a week so I have my envelopes ready before we leave. Fortunately for me I have a DD who knows how to make those cute designs on the envelopes so the mousekeepers know the money is for them.
