When it rains, do they cancel anything?

Assuming it's going to rain on the day we go (Wednesday)...do they cancel anything? Specifically, fireworks and parades? How are you notified that they are cancelled...is there a place where they post the info?

Yes, if it's raining those will be canceled, though I've read of something called the Rainy Day Cavalcade, where they basically shove a bunch of characters in a covered vehicle and THAT is the parade.

They announce, over the speakers, when fireworks are cancelled, but I don't know if they do the same with the parades.

If the winds are past a certain knot speed or if it is raining, they will cancel fireworks. Some attractions temporarily close down for the same reasons - Golden Zephyr in DCA, California Screamin, Big Thunder, Teacups, all come to mind. Anything where operating electronics in water or just the wet conditions may present a hazard. Safety first!

You can see some temporary closures on the tip board at the end of Main Street, but mostly, you will see Cast Members posted at the entrance to each closed attraction that will give you updates.

DL doesn't have this problem like WDW does. Therefore at WDW, almost everything has a covered or indoor queue line and the attractions themselves are covered to keep things open for guests and reduce downtime.

They only shut stuff down and cancel shows if it is raining really hard.

We were there last Dec. and it rained both days a bit, but never enough to shut anything down. The fireworks were cancelled, but that is due to winds, not rain.

It rained a little (light showers and sprinkles) during the parade, but it was the regular parade for us. None of the rides were shut down, even when it rained a little more on us.

I think they only start shutting stuff down when it is HARD rain. We never had that kind of driving hard rain, and chances are you won't either.

I was there during a December downpour and over the speakers they announced that they might cancel the parade. It let up long enough for them to run the parade, but minutes after it started, the rain returned and Disney pulled the dancers from the parade and just sent the floats down the parade route with the characters merely waving.

When it rains, they close down the teacups and alice in wonderland. Because they are outdoor rides and can be slippery.

That is one thing I do like about WDW, everything is covered for the most part so it is nice...not just for rain but to get out of the sun too! Like pp said it wont effect things too much unless it is quite a downpour. Then most outdoor rides like storybookland, dumbo, teacups, previously mentioned rides will close. Do not go on BTMMR or screamin in the rain, it hurts! lol

It's funny you should say that because as I was reading everyone's posts I thought to myself how much I like (LOVE) the outdoor ques at Disneyland. Does it ever rain in SoCal?

Another thing to bear in mind is that during our December trip last year they closed Carnation Cafe down early due to a cold, windy and rainy day. They cancelled our PS for dinner and were no help in making an alternate plan. The rain stopped around 4 pm, but CC did not reopen. Luckily, Cafe Orleans did stay open and took pity on us...gave us a walk up with no more than a 5 minute wait. The food was okay, but it was the perfect weather for the Baked Potato Soup at CC...however, beggars can't be choosers and we were just lucky to have something available to us that wasn't Counter Service.

Definitely it rains in So Cal, both our trips last Jan were rainy trips. I actually got pnuemonia after our first trip last year. Alice and the teacups close, the parade becomes the rainy day cavalcade and the fireworks go away. BUT, for these to happen it has to be a good rain, not just a sprinkle.

I am sorry you caught pneumonia! I had it for the first time last winter, and it was terrible. But actually you cannot catch pneumonia from getting chilled, or getting caught in the cold or rain. That is an old wives tale.

If you look down at the bottom of that article it clearly states you don't get it from going out in the cold or rain. I use to think that was true as well, as my mom always told me that--but learned otherwise later.

OK, apparently I should be more specific. I got pnuemonia after our return, I get bronchitis and many other chest cold type illnesses every year. My Dr. told me that my pnuemonia was a result of being out in the rain when I likely had an old infection that hadn't cleared up yet. I was also sick in October of 07, he told me that the infection had not likely cleared up all the way and the cold wet weather was the catalyst that provoked the pnuemonia. Luckily I know when I'm getting really sick (comes from years of going thru these types of illnesses) so I got in very early and caught it quickly. It wasn't a full blown case thank goodness but it was enough that I used all 6 sick days the first 2 weeks of this year. Thanks for the link but it's really unnecessary in my case.

Your doctor told you something that is incorrect, I am afraid. It is not possible to get pneumonia from being out in the rain--from an old infection or not. You can look it up if you are really interested.

Exactly what I was thinking. I find it interesting that so many people believe the rain could cause an infection.

I already had a slight cold (aka a virus), the cold progressed into pnuemonia. I also have asthma and other "chest cold type" issues which makes my tendency to catch pnuemonia/bronchitis much higher. I know what I'm talking about here, please stop trying to convince me that I am wrong when it concerns my personal health issues. I get bronchitis at least once a year, normally twice, a few times three times in one year. When I get it I have asthma and other issues. I had a slight cold, spent too much time in the pouring rain, 2 days after leaving DL I got sicker and sicker until I finally went to the dr and was diagnosed with walking pnuemonia. Beginning stages of pnuemonia. I was given antibiotics and it cleared up pretty quickly. Pnuemonia is caused by a virus, the virus was a cold, it was made worse by my bad judgement spending so much time in the wet pouring rain.

I thought I was healthy enough but being out in the drenching rain caused my cold to reflare which in turn became pnuemonia a few days later. So between my original bronchial infection, the cold and the wet soaking, drenching, shower like wet weather, I contracted pnuemonia. Again, I know what I'm talking about here, I worded it poorly and for that I apologize but I do know what I'm talking about.

We were/are hoping to go tomorrow. If it rains we will be happy campers. We love DL in the rain... the outdoor rides like BTMR etc stay open. Yes you get wet but it is fun.

I'm not disputing the fact that something like bronchitis (sp?) can cause pneumonia. I just don't understand how rain factors into it. Rain doesn't carry the bacteria that causes viruses like that. At least not that I'm aware of.
