Maybe a silly question. When can I use the first credit? After cheking in at the hotel or at 12:00am?
We will stay the first night at the ASMovie without DDP. I know that we can use the credits till midnight at our checkout day....but may we have breakfast at the ASMovie the first day or do we have tomdrive tomthe SSR?

You must first check in at SSR.
Not just an online check-in... they'll want to scan at least one of your bands to "activate" your dining credits.

If you do this at 9am, you can use credits at 9:01.

Someone in your party will have to physically check in at SSR to activate the dining plan before you can use the credits. Check in can be any time after 6:00AM.

I just came here to ask a similar question. We already called WL about going to a park before check-in and were told "as soon as someone enters a park, they are activated".

However, we were thinking of eating at Boma for breakfast before going to AK on our check-in day. Since that wouldn't require any band scanning, I suppose our credits wouldn't have kicked in yet :(

When you "called WL", you were actually connected to a call center even though the CM may have identified themselves as being at WL. Unfortunately, your park ticket and your dining plan credits are different so entering a park will not activate your dining plan. If you want to use dining credits before or after entering a park, you will have to physically check in at WL first.

Well of course a park ticket wouldn't be connected to a dining plan :) But it makes sense in the context of magic bands. You scan your magic band when you enter your resort room, which means it's connected to your resort, correct? Makes sense then that as long as you've completed online check in, you show up at the park and Disney knows you've arrived for your trip.

There was a brief test period when some were able to do the entire check in process online and go directly to their room without stopping at the front desk at the resort. However, currently you still have to go to the front desk to finish the check in process, including activation of the dining plan, even if you do online check in.
