When does it get dark in Dec - AKV stay

We are staying in the AKV from 15th Dec for 4 nights. When does it get dark at that time of year? I went to pains to get a savanah view room and suddenly thought when we are in the room it will be dark outside. Is it worth the extra points for this 1 bed or should I just go for a value?

Also does any value have sV rooms? and what floor would they be on?

It gets dark around 5:00PM in December, sometimes a little earlier, sometimes a little later. Dec. 22 is the first day of winter which is also the shortest day of the year. As you approach it you lose time each day and after it pasts you gain time each day. Don't know about the standard rooms at Jambo building. We have a ressie for the AKV for Jan. 27, so will know more then.

Actually, it will be a little light left at 6 PM. We often go at that time of year. Even at night, you can see the animals. We were at AKL in early January a couple of years ago, and we could see the Ankoli cattle outside our room all night long. They have a "moonlight" lighting out there.

Sunset will be at 5:30pm in Lake Buena Vista on 12/15 this year. Civil twilight ends at 5:56pm.

thanks everyone, since we may be able to see animals even in the dark it might be worth keeping the SV studio.

The best time to see the animals is in the morning when they are fed or late afternoon for the same reason. We are at WDW in early December and love the AKV even then. While it is harder to see the animals, you can still see them in the dark.

Inkmahm is right about morning being best. We spent a lot of time out there around 6AM watching the keepers place the browse and then watching the animals find and eat it.

If it's dark enough, nighttime is a great time to watch wildlife. If there is a lot of ambient light from the resort, you won't be able to see as well, but if it's really dark your eyes will adjust in just a few minutes.

With light, you can only see where the light shines. Without light, you can see everything.

We had to catch ME at 4:00 am and passed the viewing windows on our way back to the main lodge. The animals were very ACTIVE. They were eating, walking around, having a regular good ol' time. So, as stated above, mornings sure seem to be a great time to view the animals.
