When do southern schools have fall break in October?

The UK always has an October break (always has, my birthday fell during school break in Scotland).
Here in Brevard County, Fl there's NO Fall Break in October.

Our calendar isn't set for next year, but if past precedent means anything, our break will be the first week of Oct. I'm in N.GA. My DD goes to a city school system. Our county does things differently. They scrapped the week long break a few years ago, and now do two or three days off. Sometimes it is Columbus Day weekend; this year it was the following weekend. They take off a Friday and then the following Monday and possibly Tues.

Some of the metro Atlanta school systems do that same sort of thing. They just take a couple of days off at, or just after Columbus Day. I live out in the sticks, but used to work in the metro Atlanta area. None of the people I worked with had kids that had full week off in Oct. I know there are some schools around Atlanta that do the full week, but I'm not sure when.

I live in a small town in TN (1 hour north of Chattanooga, and 1 hour south of Knoxville) and we usually have the week before Halloween.

Fall break is an extended weekend in south Miss. and not all schools participate. For the past couple years it has been the Monday of Columbus Day. I know the 2011 fall break is the 10th of Oct. because we are going Oct. 9th - 15th.

There is no fall break in Texas. They did it for a couple of years but then did away with it. In order to have a fall break they had to start school early in August which lead to a lot of problems with summer jobs, etc.

No fall break here in Texas...but as a previous poster said...the whole of the UK are off mid Ocotber for a week and Florida is the number one spot they head to.

I guess I'll wade on out here by saying that I live in Cobb County in Georgia. Up until last night, our fall break was in late September. But the school board took that all away.

But now, many of us are faced with a decision to make. This year was the first year that we had this "balanced" calendar and the board said that it was going to be the calendar for 3 years. Then, they decided to revisit it by asking the residents to vote online on some poll.

Well, the residents overwhelmingly voted for the balanced calendar. No matter- because the board voted against it anyway.

So now I'm on the opposite side of an issue that is kinda weird. I would NEVER allow my kids to get out of class to go to WDW or any vacation. But the school boards said that we weren't going to have class, now we are! After we paid money for the trip!

This whole thing is a mess down here! I had to tell my boys that they changed the calendar and they felt lied to.

For 2011, we (suburb of New Orleans) have off Oct 31 and Nov 1.

2010 was the first year we had off in fall other than Thanksgiving week. It was Oct 29 and Nov 1.

But now, many of us are faced with a decision to make. This year was the first year that we had this "balanced" calendar and the board said that it was going to be the calendar for 3 years. Then, they decided to revisit it by asking the residents to vote online on some poll.

Well, the residents overwhelmingly voted for the balanced calendar. No matter- because the board voted against it anyway.

So now I'm on the opposite side of an issue that is kinda weird. I would NEVER allow my kids to get out of class to go to WDW or any vacation. But the school boards said that we weren't going to have class, now we are! After we paid money for the trip!

This whole thing is a mess down here! I had to tell my boys that they changed the calendar and they felt lied to.

This scenario is the first thing that came to mind when I read the original post. I live in Clayton county with no fall break, work in Douglas county where 2011/2012 school year will hav a fall break but they won't in 2012/2013. I tell my dd she should just home school, lol, but she is a single mom of two with a deadbeat dad so she has to work.

Here in South Louisiana we do have a fall break. This year is Oct 7 - 11. It gets taken away if we have to miss school for the "H" word. This only about the 3rd or 4th year we do this and one year the "H" came after the October break.
We do start school early August though.

We are planning a trip for October and a few years ago came down to WDW and it was packed and we learned that southern schools had their fall break in October. Does anyone know what week they are off? Thanks, Linda

Florida schools no longer have fall break. We used to have them, and they were great.

School boards in Georgia usually ignore polls of either teachers or parents. (I taught in GA for 5 yrs)

We live in another part of western Kentucky (McCracken County) and our fall break this year is October 3rd thru 7th. Anytime right before Columbus Day increases the crowds at Disney because a lot of schools up north get the Monday off....
