Need Ideas For CoWorker Recovering

So recently my friend / co worker had to have emergency bypass surgery.

He is finally home. A couple of years ago his wife passed away and our company sent him flowers.

So far no card , no follow up. I won’t get started on our boss who is like the real I life Jon Lovitz character who lies with every waking breath. I even suggested to him hey are you going to get a card for everyone to sign oh yea and nothing.

Needless to say my partner in crime lol feels very alone . All the BS talk of we are all family and loyalty that was spewed to him a few weeks before he had surgery.
I had planned on decorating his house door before he came back however he came back home earlier than expected.

So I’m going to get him a card tomorrow and have people sign it because all these co workers ask about him.

But I’ve been thinking about making like a little video with coworkers actually speaking to him .
Any thoughts ? Any ideas that would be more from the heart?

I would do something more useful than a video. If he is alone, he probably needs meals. Maybe get him some meals, or gift cards to food places or some home made soup. If he likes puzzles, crosswords, or books maybe something like that to keep him busy while he recuperates.

This place is funny: take for example a GM that left a few years ago drank and killed himself. He got a little memorial there as well as a bush or tree dedicated in his name with a plaque and a creepy flat stone with his name birth year and death year.

And if I ask leadership are you going to get a card or something they could have said no we cant do that but if you tell me yea then I expect it to be done. Funny part is while he was in hospital, boss texted him what is your address I want to send you something?

They will make a congrats it’s so and so birthday or anniversary and out it on bulletin board. The other day was my birthday and.nothing and I was vocal about it . I told my boss hey where is my poster because there were others oh so and so forgot to put it up there. Me how sad but we are suppoed to be family. Anither cowotker made me a sign before my boss put mine up.

We just all signed a thing for a manager who resigned so a card isn’t out of the question just laziness.

What they can’t do at my job is have a person in leadership start loke a go fund me or the like as when same coworkers wife died , it was mentioned and said they couldn’t do it but the employees could so we did .

His kids live with him so he isn’t alone and he isn’t the puzzle type. But he is hurt by no reaching out except me passing along other coworkers asking about him.
The meal train is a good idea just have to find out what he can eat now .

Thanks everyone

Just get a card and I think a quick video made on your phone and emailed to him would be cute. I definitely think it's good to see if you can somehow help out with food but don't make it a burden. When my friend had breast cancer our boss wanted to do a meal train thing (but no one cooked) so they bought like $500 worth of gift cards to various food places, but my friend had trouble driving and getting these things (her husband doesn't drive) and didn't really know the Uber Eats way of doing things.

I think the video is fun, but I agree with others about him needing help with meals. I would take up a collection from everyone and get a DoorDash gift card (or an equivalent) so he can have meals delivered and/or a local grocery store that delivers. I’m not the biggest fan of having people make meals unless everyone knows exactly what he likes and knows that he has the storage for them.

I hope he feels better soon.

I also like the idea of a meal train, does this person have a family support? I also like the idea of something like a gift card for DoorDash

Meal train is a great idea because it won't step on the bosses toes who has rejected spending and coordinating a group card. Bosses have big egos and can be very temperamental about someone showing them up but something where effort is the key ingredient steers clear of that whole thing.
