When did "I seen" become acceptable?!?!? VENT!!!!

Some time back one of my students said, "I seen ____" to me, and I politely responded, "You SAW _____." Just as politely, he said, "No, Mrs. _____, it's past tense -- I SEEN _____."

He genuinely thought he was correct and I -- a teacher with 16 years experience and two college degrees -- was wrong. Several of his nearby friends nodded their heads in response in his defense, though they weren't willing to join in the conversation.

I was shocked, but since then I've realized that he's not alone in this exceedingly ignorant thinking.

Probably around the same time "would of" became acceptable. ;)

 Some people have said it might be a misunderstanding because would've would sound like would of, but when you see it in print, well there's no excuse. :rotfl:

I'm sorry, but when I'm on a bulletin board I am a stickler for things like capitalization and punctuation. I can handle a short post with no capitals, but if it's more than a few sentences I skip it. Same thing with people who refuse to use proper punctuation. Ellipses indicate a thought that has trailed off and you read it differently than you would a period. There are people (not just on this board) who use ellipses between every sentence and I just cannot read those posts. The same thing with posts where either every other sentence is it's own paragraph or the post is one huge paragraph.

Those things make the post too hard to read and I will normally skip them.

What I really hate is the lack of paragrahps in a post., also There will be one long MASSIVE post with no break in it... Makes it hard to read.

Or those who type like this: I lOvE dIsNeY. iT iS mY fAvOrItE pLaCe. :crazy2:

Okay, I have to admit that this is something that my boyfriend says sometimes and I hate it!!!!!! I hate to be the grammar police, but I can't help myself to correct him. I know it drives him crazy when I correct him, but I'm sorry, I have to!!! That is just awful!!!!

"I seen" and "ain't" drive my absolutely bonkers.
