When Did I get Voted Off of Skinny Island #2: Castaway's Land Ho!!!!

Good morning, all! I am at +.2 for the week- apparently I found some of the weight Patrick lost, LOL! I'm not upset at all, I was up 4-5 lbs until Thursday, and TOM showed up Fri, so I was expecting it, and just happy it wasn't more!

So when I went to pick up envelopes, they asked if I wanted more, and being the masochist that I am, I said yes! So I have 1500 to finish by Thurs, about 30 hrs worth! That's why I haven't been around as much the past few days, and it will be the same this week between them and helping my mom paint and so some stuff to her house (she took this week off.). I have been tracking on Spark, but will just post my food for yesterday and cal totals for the other days. On an up note, after my walk this morning I'm now at 102!! miles walked since the middle of June! :cool1: It also put me past my Spark fitness minutes yearly goal!

Tracking-
Fri- 4 mile walk, 1499 cals.
Sat- 5.5 mile walk, 1704 cals.

Breakfast- English muffin w/ 1 tbs RF peanut butter, FF yogurt.
Lunch- Olive Garden! Zuppa Tuscana soup, salad, 1 breadstick, 4 stuffed mushrooms.
Dinner- Pot roast w/ potatoes & carrots, garlic bread.
Snacks- Lemon bar, ww dark choc raspberry pop, FF pringles.
Cals- 1405 Exercise- None..day off!

Aug 15th- Done!

Crap! I totally forgot to weigh in this morning! I was trying to remember everything I have to get done today and weighing in must not have been on the top of my list - imagine that :rotfl:!

We had a fairly busy weekend too. DS had Taekwondo sparring class on Friday, then Saturday he had his Football Jamboree. They had to be @ the stadium @ 11, but the game ended up starting about 12:30 and it lasted about an hour and a half. It was kinda weird and not like a real "game" at all. They played 6 15 min. mini-games against 3 different teams and didn't really keep score. I guess it was just to help them get an idea of what kind of competition they were up against. On Sunday, I woke up with a terrible sore throat and headache, so I just hung around the house and slept most of the day since I felt like total poo. I am feeling some better today though.

Here's my tracking for the weekend:

Friday, August 13th
Bfast: 3 oz. Rotisserie Chicken, 1 small tomato (179)
Lunch: Chick-Fil-A Chargrilled Chicken Wrap no dressing (410)

I've been MIA the last few days and have a bit of catching up to do.

Megan, CUTE puppy! What an adorable face. Is she spoiled rotten yet?

Julie, thanks for all of the recipes, can't wait to try a few of them. I thought you looked fabulous in that dress on date night. I also pulled out my "skinny" clothes. All of them fit, some were now too big :cool1: but most of them were so badly out of style (think "mom jeans" :scared1: ) that I'll be doing a lot of shopping this fall.

Jane, how was camping this weekend? My son is starting 2nd year Webelos so I think we'll be doing a lot of camping. Not my favorite thing to do, but I'll muddle through.

Dawn, Chipotle is my favorite fast-food place to eat. For a long time they didn't have the nutritional information on their website so I'm very glad they added it. I had to kind of figure out points on my own, and it turns out I was very close (off by 1, I think). Anyway I remembered seeing a long time ago how bad (nutritionally) the food was there and the advice given was to skip the tortilla and stick to meat and veggies in the bowl. I usually have them put 1/2 of the rice in there, plus skip the cheese and sour cream and add my own reduced fat/fat free stuff when I get home, so it's not TOO bad.

I've heard MN has been exceptionally hot this year. I can't imaging having that kind of heat with NO AC. But hopefully the worst of it has passed for you. We still have quite a few 100 degree days ahead of us.

Amiee, yet another cute puppy face to look at. Wow - she's got some big ears on her!

Hey Elizabeth and Amy - great to see you back. :goodvibes

Aimee and Sheree, my baby is starting 5th grade next week. It dawned on me that this will be our last year in elementary school. My SIL tells me all the time that once they get into middle school, it's like you blink and they're in college. It seems to go by THAT fast. I've kind of been in the downey dumps for a few days now and I think maybe this is one of the reasons. I'm normally not like this, but it's just getting to me for some reason this year.

As for me, I'm -2.4 for the week. This put me down into a new 10's number that I haven't seen in YEARS. :cool1: It also dropped my daily WW points by 1. It's only 1 little point and I'll be fine, but every time this happend I freak out just a little bit.

Oh, and I started on my Halloween costume. No, it's not too early. ;) We have a big Halloween party every year where the kids and the adults dress up. We usually darken one room by hanging black plastic over all of the walls, windows and doorways and then fill it with black lights, spider webs, etc. We put "feel it" boxes in there for the kids and they love it. This year we're doing a Roarin' 20's theme for the party. DH and youngest DS want to be gangsters (think Zoot suits, hats, toy machine guns), oldest DS wants to be a cop. For DD, my friend found this really cute girl gangster costume that I'm hoping to modify to fit her better.

For me, I made myself a flapper dress. Now I've been sewing for most of my life. But choosing which size to make has always been the hardest part for me. I took my measurement, and based on those I should have made myself a costume in a size 20. So do you make the size you normally wear (a 12 or 14 in my case), the size on the envelope, or somehwere in between? :confused3 Being top-heavy, I decided on the 16 and it's still too big. But it's a flapper outfit, so loose is fine.... I hope. It's not done yet - had to order fringe online and I'm still waiting on it to get here. But now I have time to work on everyone else's costumes.

Down -3.1! I was actually expecting better, the last couple times I've tried to lose the weight has fallen off the first couple weeks (like 5-7 lbs a week!). Not so this time I guess.

Tracking for Saturday:

Breakfast - biscuit w/ sausage gravy; orange juice
Snack - 1/2 avocado
Dinner - Triscuits w/ tuna salad (I completely binged here, I don't know why but I just kept eating! HATE IT, I felt so gross afterward!)
Dessert - WW Strawberry Smoothie Bar

Total - 1545 cal This is the first day I've gone over the self-imposed 1500! Booooooo....:sad2:
Water - 64 oz

August 14th Done!

Tracking for Sunday:

Breakfast - Multigrain Cheerios w/ milk; large banana
Lunch - Lean Gourmet Chicken Alfredo Florentine frozen meal
Snack - Nature Valley Roasted Almond Nut Clusters
Dinner - turkey on whole wheat; pretzels; grapes
Dessert - WW Ice Cream Candy Bar

Total - 1301 cal
Water - 96 oz

August 15th Done!

I signed up on SparkPeople on Sunday, it will definitely be helpful. Their calorie counts on raw foods are a little off from the other sites I've been looking at, so my 1301 I calculated, according to Spark was 1292. I'll probably just use the Spark info from now on to be consistent.

I was within my carbs and calories, but was 1g UNDER on fat, and way under on protein. Under on fat, me? :lmao: As for the protein, I guess I'll have to start eating a bunch of eggwhites or something. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get more protein without adding many calories/fat/carbs?

Hi everyone,
Just a fly by post as I have a busy day ahead of me. I weighed in this morning and I was down :cool1: but I can't remember by how much. I will reweigh tomorrow morning and post and send everything to Dawn. I would redo today but I have already eaten and drunk almost a litre of water.

Does anyone have trouble with self sabotage when a deadline is coming up weightwise? Or anything wise for that matter? I wanted to lose more weight before we go to Vegas, but it seems the closer I get, the more I'm like well I haven't done it yet and now there is only 2.5 weeks til we leave so I'm like why bother and I'm disappointed in myself. Its my own dang fault, but how do you get passed that mental block?

Only down -0.2 for the week. Frankly, I expected to gain so I guess I'm ok with it. No tracking at all this week, and very little exercise. School starts on Thursday, and DH and I are joining the Y near the school so we can drop off the kids and go work out. We will see how that goes!

I totally self sabatoge; usually when I am getting close to a goal weight wise. I have no idea why! This time I am just trying to talk myself down. I also tend to blow it when I get frustrated about not losing fast enough. I am losing so much slower this time round; in the past I would have completely went off by now. I just keep reminding myself how much better I feel and that I would rather lose an oz than gain one:rotfl:

I did lose 1.8lbs this week! I think that's the most I have lost in a week is several months.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Hi everyone. It's time to face the ugly truth. I fell off the wagon hard this summer and gained 5 lbs. :sad1: It's time to get back on WW and start losing again. Sorry I've been MIA for a month. I hope you guys will take me back. :)

Of course we will take you back! Its not about us, its about you. I have also fallen off the boat taking us back to Skinny Island. Lets just get back on and start sailing!

Hello all!! :wave2:

I forget now who asked, but yes, the shoes are the stretchy ones and I got them from Aldo. They are fairly comfortable but they are four inch stellettos (sp??) so after a while the balls of my feet started to ache.

Amanda: WHO HOO for making the yearly goal for walking!! I'm so proud of you. :cool1:

I'm down 0.9 this week which I thought was going to be more but TOM stuff is likely the cause of it being a bit on the small side. But, let's face it...after the tiny gain from from last week being down nearly a pound this week is downright thrilling!!:woohoo:

Lowlight of the week: My Exorcist reenactment. :sad2: Hopefully lesson learned on that one...small SINGLE indulgences only!!

Highlight of the week: Trying on all of my size 16 items and finding that most of them now fit!!

Goals for this week: Making time to fit in more exercise. I haven't been making that a priority lately and it's possible that the scale has been reflecting that.

Update: This coming weekend I am going on the youth trip with my church girls as a leader (possibly :scared1:) and my time will not be my own. That's why the exercise early in the week is going to be so darn important. Also, they will be feeding us so I'll have no control over what I'm able to eat...just how much of it I take. I'm not overly concerned but I do want to ensure that I have a loss this week and so I am trying to plan and act accordingly.

I have a few more recipes to share...my final zero and one point installment but I'll do them in the next post!!

French Market Beignet

(**I tried these and they are very tasty but they don’t keep so be sure you can eat them all within a couple of hours. Also though they are tiny (like two bites) I found that the sugar/cinnamon mixture ran out too soon. I’d suggest dipping the face down side and then sprinkling the remaining mixture over the tops of the beignets once they are all laid out on the cookie sheet.)

Serves 16/Points Value 1

1 ½ cups all purpose flour (it might take a bit more so the dough isn’t sticky)
1 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ salt
¼ cup sugar, divided
4 oz unsweetened applesauce
½ cup fat free sour cream
1 tbsp margarine, melted
1 tsp vinegar, cider
¼ tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

In a medium sized bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and 2 tbsp sugar.

In a small bowl, stir together applesauce, sour cream, margarine and vinegar. Stir applesauce mixture into flour mixture. Kneed briefly, just until dough comes together. It may be sticky. Turn out onto lightly floured board.
Pat into an 8 inch square, ¼ inch thick. Cut into 16 squares. On a plate, combine remaining sugar and cinnamon. Lightly dip beignets into cinnamon-sugar on both sides.

Place on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake 13 to 15 mins or until golden brown. Yields one per serving.

Ice cream sandwich

Serves 4/1 point per serving

8 small chocolate chip cookies, about 1/3 oz each
½ cup fat free vanilla ice cream
2 tbsp sprinkles, rainbow

After allowing ice cream to soften for a minute or two, spread 2 tbsp on one cookie and top with another to make a sandwich.

Roll edges in sprinkles to coat-it should take about ½ tbsp.

Repeat to make 3 more sandwiches. Wrap each in plastic wrap and freeze for several hours before eating.

Kiwi Berry Ice Pops

Serves 6/1 point per serving

1 cup strawberries, hulled
2 items kiwifruit, peeled
1 ½ cup orange juice

Cut 12 slices of strawberries and 12 slices of kiwifruit. Arrange slices around the inside edge of 6 small, disposable plastic cups. Chop remaining fruit and fill in center of each cup. Fill cups with juice.

Insert a popsicle stick into each cup and keep stick in place with tape.

Freeze until hardened, about 2 to 3 hours. Briefly run base of each ice pop cup under hot water to remove cup.

Potato Pancakes

Serves 12/1 point per serving

¼ cup regular egg substitute
¼ cup matzo meal
½ small onion, chopped
1 tsp table salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
3 large uncooked potatoes
1 large sweet potato

Heat oven to 500 degrees F. In a large bowl combine egg substitute, matzo meal, onion, salt and pepper.

In a processor grate potatoes through feed tube. Squeeze out any excess moisture. Combine with egg mixture.

Coat baking sheet with cooking spray. Place 12 ¼ cups of pancake mixture on sheet, coat with cooking spray. Bake until pancakes are crisp, 30 mins, turning over after 15 mins.

Rice Stuffed Grape Leaves

Serves 16/1 point per serving

1 cup uncooked brown rice, NOT instant
1 cup onion, yellow, chopped
¼ cup fresh dill, chopped
¼ cup mint leaves, fresh, chopped
4 cups fat free reduced sodium chicken broth or veggie broth
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
4 ½ oz grape leaves, about 32 leaves, rinse if canned

Combine rice, onion, dill and mint in a large non stick skillet and set pan over medium heat. Saute until onion is soft, stirring frequently to prevent rice from burning, about 5 mins. Add 2 cups of broth, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer until rice is tender, about 245 mins. Stir in lemon juice and remove from heat.

Place grape leaves, shiny side down, on a flat surface. Top each leaf with
one heaping teaspoon of rice mixture, placing filling near stem end of leaf.

Fold in sides of leaf and then roll up from broad bottom to top. Place stuffed leaves side by side in a large stockpot, leaving no gaps. (This prevents them from opening while cooking.)

Pour remaining broth over top of leaves. Set pan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 1 hour. Remove from heat and let cool 30 mins before serving. Yields 2 stuffed leaves per serving. (May also be served chilled.)

Savoury Bulgur with Vegetables

Serves 6/1 point per serving

1 tsp olive oil
1 cup zucchini, chopped
½ cup carrots, sliced
½ cup sweet red peppers, chopped
¼ cup scallions, chopped
½ cup canned chicken broth
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp garlic powder
¼ cup parsley, fresh, chopped
3 cups cooked bulgar

In a large skillet, heat oil. Add veggies and cook until crisp tender, about six mins.

Add broth, mustard, lemon juice and garlic powder, bring to a boil. Add parsley and bulgar, heat through. Yields about ¾ cup per serving.

Seven Layer Mexican Dip

1 cup fat free sour cream
2 tbsp reduced sodium taco seasoning
9 oz fat free bean dip, about 1 heaping cup
6 oz guacamole, about ¾ cup
4 med scallions, chopped
1 small tomato
6 med olives, black, sliced

Combine sour cream and taco seasoning, mix well.

Spread bean dip on bottom of a 12 inch round glass serving bowl or edged platter. Top with guacamole, sour cream, cheese, scallions, tomatoes and olives. Yields about ¼ cup dip per serving.

Hope these help!!

GOOD MONDAY :rotfl2: I am –2 for the week. I thought I would finally reintroduce myself to everyone….I am the one who is online all the time at work but rarely comment. Yes I know, how super stalkerish of me!popcorn::

First Name and Screen name: Sara ~ Officereg
What your Goal Is for Fitness: I would like to be able to run and keep up with my kids.
Food that you Find Hardest to Eat in Moderation: Carbs...specifically potatoes and salty treats.
Favorite Good Food for You: I love most berries
Favorite Form of Exercise: I actually like exercise or I should say I like the way I feel when I am done with exercise. I currently do the elliptical for an hour each day, which I am able to get 6 miles in.
What Your Goal is For Yourself when you get to Skinny Island: I would like to be able to be in pictures and not feel like I’ve ruined them. I would like to buy clothing from the rack (at a normal size store) and take it home without trying it on…and know it will fit
Family: I have the best DH on the face of the planet, DS12 and DD1

Since I started my journey on New Years Day I have lost 59lbs. I still have about 40 to go. I know I will get there, but it is the staying there that scares me.:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Here is a picture of me (behind all the kids) December 2009:

Here is a picture of me last week at DD's birthday party (It was SO hot):

I weighed in this morning, on my broken scale and got my weight in kg and then converted it on a calculator online.

I'm + 3.1 lbs since I sent my weigh into Dawn last... which was July 6.

Honestly you guys, I'm not proud proud of myself but I am...

I only gained 3.1 lbs in 6 wks off the boards, 6 wks not tracking, 6 wks not exercising as much and a full 4 days EATING at Disney, plus 3 more days eating out at MILs house.

I'm not celebrating it... because that's the wrong attitude to go forward with... because those "only"s add up quickly.

But it's definitely a hurdle I can jump back over and get going in the right track.

OFFICIALLY hubby and I are joining WW again tomorrow. We have talked about it (and talked about it and talked about it) ad nauseum. I love Livestrong, I love my body bugg. I love the knowledge I now have from using both those programs together. Very eye opening. For example, how long I sit a day... how I burn more calories walking around the grocery store than I do on the stationary bike for an HOUR. etc

But the most success (on the scale) we've had was with WW. Hubby likes it best. It's super easy to use, super foodie friendly, we like the controlled splurging of flex points, enjoy the online tools, etc.

Plus with all of you that are doing WW and being so successful with it, it's super motivating!! And will be super easy to talk points with you guys!

I'm still gonna use the bugg though at least until my free subscription runs out.. and will double track to calories on livestrong because I like the diary entry aspect of it... and it makes it easier to translate to the bugg

Have a great day everyone!! Be back later to quote and I'm determined to get all the tracking tabulated and posted TODAY!

My only advice: Let it go. Don't base your weight loss goals on dates/vacations/anniversaries/reunions. I really don't even step foot on the scale except Mondays for weigh-in. I'm the queen of sabotage, If the scale doesn't say what I want it to say, I just want to give up. So, I'm trying very hard not to lose wight by a particular deadline or for a particular purpose. Instead I'm going to focus on how many weeks I can stick to my goals in a row. I like this groups' idea of putting up the beach photo times the number of weeks you've stuck to the tracking. If you fall off, just start again and see how high you can go the next time!
I totally self sabatoge; usually when I am getting close to a goal weight wise. I have no idea why! This time I am just trying to talk myself down. That's a good way to look at it. Just keep reminding yourself of how much better you feel week by week. Or just how much better you feel at the end of a meal when you are NOT bloated and sick from overeating. Those are worth celebrating.I did lose 1.8lbs this week! I'm a newbie here, but welcome back!

I asked. Thanks for the info. I love dressy shoes with the elastic straps. Usually alot more comfortable and flattering on my feet (which are too wide).
Highlight of the week: Trying on all of my size 16 items and finding that most of them now fit!!
Okay, now that is AWESOME!!! Can't wait until I can try on my "old clothes" a size smaller. That will feel really nice.
Update: This coming weekend I am going on the youth trip with my church girls as a leader (possibly :scared1:) and my time will not be my own. Good luck on your trip. I've done Girl Scout weekends with my daughter and it's so hard when they supply "school cafeteria" type foods and Nothing is what I should be eating. Maybe you'll be so busy and active it will balance out! Have a great time!

Your right off shore!!! Maintenance is always hard, but just keep reminding yourself of all your hard work. You can do it.

Absolutely. You'll be back down those 3 pounds in a week or two and be off and running!!!

Hubby likes it best. It's super easy to use, super foodie friendly, we like the controlled splurging of flex points, enjoy the online tools, etc.
It's nice that your hubby is going to be doing this with you. For whatever reason, it seems like whenever DH is trying to lose weight I'm not motivated. Whenever I try to lose weight, he's not. Not too often that we work on it together. That's awesome!

Just checking in before I get back to work, keeping myself motivated. Keep up the good work everyone!!!

I am +1 this week, not unexpectedly. eating a lot, eating a lot of crap, and not exercising tend to do that to me! Coming back from vacation was a longer adjustment than I anticipated!

So today I'm already eating better and hope to sneak in a walk sometime tonight. Have a weirdly busy week. Just lots of extra things scheduled at odd times. Hopefully by Saturday life will be calm for a bit. Then it will be crazy with back to school stuff! I think I'm ready for school to start and maybe we will have our routines that make life simpler. Or, it could get busier and crazier!

I'm -1 lb from last week. I'm on vacation in California right now, so I guess I should be happy I am not seeing big numbers with a plus sign in front. Lots of good food here, and I'm certainly eating a lot more than what I usually do at home. But I'm also walking a ton everyday and my sore, blistered feet can attest to the calories I've been burning off. Visited Catalina island, LA and San Diego last week, just got back to my parents place in northern CA last night. A few more days of the awesome food and I might be scared of stepping on the scale next Monday. It's hard to stop gorging on the scrumptious Asian food that I can't find in North Carolina. But I'm trying to get my exercise in and fill up on vegetables as well. The weather here is gorgeous, 74 degrees, blue skies and no humidity. I'm going to miss this the most when I go back to NC later this week.

 A little help, please, oh knowledgeable Skinny Island voyagers! My folks want to go out to an authentic Mexican place for dinner in a little while and I'd like to go with them...I've been pretty good so I figure it'll be ok.

But what is the best thing for me to get calorie/fat-wise? :confused3 Fajitas maybe? I know getting corn tortillas is better than flour.

Hi guys! I weighed in this week at WW and was down -2.4!!!

I am happy about that but know that 3 meals out this week while still within points, was not good for sodium.
Trying to eat more filling foods this week and push that up to 3 pounds this week so I can hit my 10 pound mark!!

I know I should not be disappointed but that perfectionist in me thinks about what choices could have been better but I will take it!

Baylor is off to burn camp in Colorado, Carsyn is up north for 2 weeks for camp as a counselor and I have a ton of work this week to get done! Dan and I are heading out of town for my birthday this weekend. Just to Duluth for you locals but it will be nice and then on Monday Baylor will fly in and he need to get to football practice and then maybe we will get some dinner.

I will catch up tom! I am off carpet cleaning the basement and bedrooms while everybody is gone!! :cool1:
