When can a renter confirm a reservaton at the DVC resort?

When I rent points to people I always email the Confirmation number immediately to the person. Then that person should be able to call and confirm the reservation whenever they want by giving that confirmation number. Remember though when you are renting points from someone that the member always has the right to cancel the ressie so make sure you go with someone with references that you can trust and know their terms up front.

you can also call the rsort a few days before you arrive. The resort wont have the ressies until a few days of your arrival.

We always e mail or fax them with teh confirmation number and letter and include MS 800 number.

Renters should be able to confirm as soon as the reservation is made. I don't know if the renter will ever be able to confirm 100% until they check-in.

I think most DVC members who rent points do this. If yours doesn't offer, I'd sure ask for this info. You should be able to independently verify the ressie. There is no reason for you not to have that ability -- unless the person renting the points just doesn't know what they are doing.

If you haven't already, go to the Rent/Trade board and read both the FAQ and "A Word to the Wise." Both contain very good info, and will answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks for you responses. I have a confirmation number and will be receiving the confirmation letter.

What I was wondering was about when you can call directly to the resort. When I called the other day, I was told what one of the above posters said, "They won't have it until a few days before."

Has anyone been able to call any sooner, or would I expect that to be standard? Our reservation is a long way out, so I'm not in a hurry. It just sounded in the FAQ's like we should be able to do that, but the resort said they don't get them until much closer.

the resorts have your dates but dont actually have them in the computer until a few days before when being assigned your room. It use to be , MS couldnt give out any info to non dvc members. When you get the conf letter, call MS and tell them, a dvc member made ressies for you and you would like to confirm the ressies. Also, like it has been said before the dvc member has access to your ressies from the time the ressies is made until your ressies dates are over. This means the dvc member can change it, cancel it, modify it in any way. With the confirmation letter being sent to you, i wouldnt worry to much, just bring the conf. letter with when you check in and have the dvc members info, phone numbers , address. this way if there is a problem you have the info with you. I wouldnt worry about anything, just start planning the rest of your trip. Enjoy ! :wizard:

You don't call the resort, you call Member Services. The person you are renting from will have to give you that number - if we try to give it to you here you will get nothing but ***, because it is a number that is not supposed to be published here.

MS won't let you make any changes in the reservation, but they should give you independent verification that the reservation is in place. You might also check any requests you made - they may let you change those, but not the dates, types of accommodations, etc.

Perfect! Thank you for the information. That's exactly what I needed to know.

Wow, Jim!! I didn't know MS would do that (I have never rented points, though....transferred, yes...rented, no). But, I am actually surprised to hear that MS will do that. I thought DVC's policy was kind of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of renting.....i.e. "you can do it, but we will not assist or intervene in the process in any way". It seems to me that if a renter speaks to MS to verify a ressie, then that renter could also hold MS to the "But, I called and you told me it was there" scenario.

I always just assumed that because MS asks for your member number right off the bat, that was their way of screening calls from people who are not members.

I also think that a really paranoid "renter" could call MS on a weekly (if not, more often) basis to check and make sure that their ressie is "still" in place. I am not sure I would like the MS phone lines to be tied up by a paranoid renter if I was trying to make ressies. Of course, this accessiblity to MS would make renting easier (as far as the "trust" factor goes).

I don't know...I'm just a little surprised by this. :confused3

MS is not SUPPOSED to do these things. MS is supposed to be strictly for MEMBER services. However, people have reported that this has been bent.

When I first rented a few years ago, once I received my reservation confirmation form, I called Member Services, verified it, added some requests and that was it. They were more than willing to help me, no problems. But now since they want to know everything including your first born etc., wonder if they will still help out renters?

I recently rented points, the DVC member gave me the res# and MS phone number, I called MS, and they verified the res.

Yes they will still verify the reservation for non members holding a rented reservation and they do so without question. We have rented numerous times and never once has a renter had any difficulty gaining this info from MS.
