What's y'all's opinion on T-Rex?

We ate lunch there last week. Here's my views.

It was on a Wednesday around Noon, and there was no wait. We were seated in the blue ice cave room. The two close areas (blue and red) were pretty full. The two farther sections (the green jungle areas) weren't being used. And the bar area was fairly empty.

All the food there is obnoxiously huge. It was enjoyable. But the portions are very large.

The regular burger was so thick my brother couldn't figure out how to fit it in his mouth. He ended up with stuff all over his shirt and pants.

My brother's wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich that comes on a croissant. She was expecting a fairly dainty sandwich. Instead she got a gigantic croissant that was a foot long. Biggest croissant I've ever seen. And it was stacked. She barely got through half.

I ordered the philly cheesesteak. That was a footlong, which is basically what you expect with a cheesesteak. I'm a big eater, and was able to make it through, but I was stuffed.

Right now there's no discounts for AP or Dining Experience cardholders. We were told they would be adding discounts in the first week of January.

The restaurant is loud. And not typical Disney loud. I'm talking L-O-U-D! We had to yell across the table, and only made out every other word.

A little OT here but are there any flashing lights there? We're arriving next Friday and are bringing a teen with epilepsy with us. Flashing lights are one of her triggers so I need to find out ahead of time. I know that RFC has the flashes with the thunder, so I guess it's out, just wondering about T Rex. TIA!

It's funny, because during our meal we were talking about the lights triggering an epileptic seizure. I can't compare it to RFC. But there are tons of flashing lights. Every 15 minutes or so, there's a meteor shower and the place goes absolutely nuts. The dinos start screaming and the lights start flashing. It only lasts maybe 2-3 minutes, but it seems much longer.

The flashing effects are really amplified in the blue icecave room, which changes colors from blue to pink. During the meteor shower it almost becomes like a strobe light.

Overall, I'm glad we tried it, but we probably won't go back. I'm sure that kids will love it. All the kids we saw there were having a good time. If you're a big eater, you'll probably like the food.

But if you're a group of adults and don't like large food portions, loud noises or flashing lights, you should probably try another restaurant.

Here's some pics. They're not very good, but might give you an idea of what's inside.

I was there on Oct. 14th when it opened, and posted a review. I was with the second party served, so our service was really good. I thought the food was pretty good, but I thought families would find it pricey. I thought the beverages were a bit overpriced, even with the souvenir cups. Although, the food portions were more than adequate.

I did love the dessert. The chocolate extinction was really good. I would go back just for that one.:lovestruc I don't think I would make the food a must do, though. The kids will love the Build-A-Dino workshop.

I saw several small children crying and you could tell they were scared during the meteor shower show. As on previous posts, this show was about every 10 minutes or so. The only thing I can compare it to is the ITTBAB show at AK, but more intense and louder. Hopes this helps some parents decide.

All in all, I liked the restaurant. It is not on the most do (except dessert). I must say I loved the atmosphere, and the meteor show. I am going to try it again at the end of this month to see if the food and service have changed. Maybe I will just order an appetizer and dessert.:woohoo:

Wouldn't count on there being any discounts for Dining Experience (aka Tables in Wonderland) members. None of Landry's restaurants at WDW give discounts for TIW.

DH and I were there for dinner last week (Wednesday, I think, around 5:30 or 6:00 pm.) We were seated within 5 minutes. At first, we were given a table near the restrooms in the Ice Cave room. A good percentage of the people heading to the restroom hit the back of my chair! We asked to be moved and were put in one of the other rooms which solved that problem. I agree that the food is comparible to Rainforest, but for some reason, we both seem to prefer Rainforest at AK to T-Rex or even the Rainforest at DTD. BTW - I had the Chicken Fried Steak and DH had the Fried Shrimp - both were OK.

We likely won't go back to T-Rex unless we are traveling with kids. And even then, I would refuse to sit in the Ice Cave room as there is NOTHING for the kids to look at - it seems like it would be a BIG disappointment to any kid who wants to eat there to see the dinos.

Thank you so much for that feedback! She had another seizure on Friday in school, this one was pretty severe (I feel, she was out of it for a few minutes). Her neuro (who is a friend of DHs) just upped her meds significantly and we'll have an Ativan pen with us if necessary, but I would hate for the trip to end with that. It's her first Disney trip and we're wanting it to be memorable, but not that way, lol. May either try a late breakfast at 1900 PF (we're at the GF) or even Planet Hollywood, it's pretty safe.

Subbing.....we're going to try and get in there sometime next week. Curious as to what's good!:goodvibes

Just a note to rcraw.... We went to Planet Hollywood a few years back and they sat us at a table next to a model of a hideous creature from some movie and my daughter (she was about 6 at the time) had the creeps the whole meal! We also thought it was very loud. Maybe it's different now but I thought I'd throw that in!

We ate there last week 10/30. We got there early to see if we would have a better chance of getting in, it was about 6pm. We had about a 25 minute wait and were seated in the ice cave room. Very cool. We actually liked it, and were suprised the food and service were so good for only being open 2 weeks or so. Our waitress was great, we didn't feel rushed and the food was good. DH had the burger and I had the ribs. DH was actually glad he didn't order the double after seeing it come out of the kitchen a few times. We had the flatbread as an appetizer and it was very good. As another poster said, it is LOUD! Other than that, we thought it was good and fun. We actually had a better time here than we did at Le Cellier the next night!

is there a T-rex post with pics of food ? If not can someone start one. I wanna see what the food looks like. Maybe that will help me decide/ Thanks

Out of curiosity, does T-Rex play loud music as well? The last time we were at DTD Rainforest they not only had the loud animal sounds, but they were blasting the music! It was abnoxious, we all left with throbbing headaches.

Hi Soarin08, when are you planning on being at T Rex? We are from Petal and were thinking of going there sometime between 12/11-12/14. What did those of you who became ill order? Debby
