What's wrong with the BCV?

If the SAB at BCV is AOK & you can see FW, WS and SSE from the room, then MDF is GTG for SMW reservations!

Well, I must've been looking the wrong way out of Mom's rooms....but, try as I might....we never saw ANYTHING but service road out her rooms!!! But, now that I think about it....we were on the 2nd and 3rd floors....maybe the trees were in the way!!

MDF....you are SOOOOO funny!!!

Danthesand...While I think it is TOTALLY fair for you to say that without SAB, your interest in the resort wanes 100%...it does not hold true for me. The reality is, I am allergic to chlorine (a really crappy allergy to have) and cannot swim (although I keep my head above water and go in sometimes if the smell is not too bad...but, I usually end up "paying" for it later)...and I STILL love BCV!!! I think it is the most BEAUTIFUL of all the WDW hotels...why...I don't know....because I love Victorian theming....especially Cape Cod/Nantucket Victorian theming. I am also someone who could be left in the Solarium and be "just fine"....being in that room makes me happy!! But, seriously...there are so many other advantages....the parking is the biggest "secret"...it is SOOO close....the distance to Epcot....a character bfast on site. SAB is just ONE of the benefits of BCV for me!!! We actually go to WDW in the winter, and we can never be assured that we can go swimming....and yet, I STILL want to stay at BCV!!

It's really strange....when you love a place....you just love it "warts" and all!!! I know BCV is definitely NOT perfect....the staff can be very snobby, and I think it is safe to say they do not want DVC people there. The place is a little run-down from overuse, the views are not that good for a large percentage of the rooms, the lines for food are VERY long, the pool is crowded....ALL of those statements are/can be true at times....and yet, it doesn't diminish my love for that place AT ALL!!! Sometimes, a place is just "right". I wish everyone could love their home resort as much as I love mine because when you feel this way.....DVC is a HUGE bargain (at least, that's what I keep telling my dh!!!)!! When I go "home"....I really feel like I am "home"...being in that hotel makes my heart happy!!

BCV23...thanks!!! I just can't help it!! ;)

Ahem....I'm not sure I agree.

If one removes SAB from BCV, the interest in that resort drops 100%+. Or stated differently, BCV is basically a large pool....with some time-share space attached.
Although that may be true for some people, there are some of us who have no interest in SAB, who still love BCV best. Why? It reminds me of summers on the Cape (except no palm trees in New England), with the sandy beach. I didn't swim there either.
As far as views go, try as I might, MS has always insisted to me that there's no such thing as a woods view. So now I ask for courtyard view. Last time I got a view of the little courtyard by Ariel. Not much to see of Epcot, but great for people-watching! Now it's my favorite view. One time I got that service road/Epcot view. I had a beautiful view of Illuminations, but for me, the noisy service road was far too much of a distraction. For awesome views, I'll agree BCV isn't the best-BWV Boardwalk view is far superior. But I'd much rather stay at BCV-proximity to B&C and to gelato trump those great views by far!

Oh dear, Erik and I were talking about rooms on that side FACING Epcot. As Beca said, the views are not most people's favorite thing about BCV although I happen to enjoy all the views on that side.

As Erik said, only a relatively small rooms have that drop dead view of SSE although we too got it on our very first stay there. I've noticed quite a few people have reported that happening. Anyway, we had that same wing this trip but got 2nd floor which I had requested. We could only see the top of the wand from the second floor.

The views facing WS reveal the backside of some areas. I know we've seen some of Canada and I think part of the courtyard at England on yet another trip. Many rooms can also see the back of Soarin which we enjoy because our DIL worked on it but it is hardly scenic. :teeth:

Just don't want you to get your expectations too high. Some DVCers really enjoy the pool views precisely because they don't like seeing the road or the backside of Epcot. ;)

MDF wife sez:

I don't care where we stay. We can always stay at SSR so at the Seven Month Window, let's try to get something else each year.

They are all awesome from what I've seen and they all have their plusses and minuses. As long we're on Disney property, I could sleep in a broom closet"

There you have it. My wife is NEVER wrong, just ask her.

I'm curious now... where is the view of SSE in particular? Both times I stayed at BCV I had one of the rooms over the bridge facing the road. I would have thought I could see SSE from there...but maybe not??? I would have thought all the road view rooms in that section would have had the same view...the hotel has a straight run to the parking lot from that point onward... Probably I could see it and thought it wasn't remarkable since I never had any other view.

WebmasterDoc posted a great summary of BCV views shortly after it opened: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=257950 .
The graphic seems to have a broken link so here it is:

bcvmap.jpg

The places where you can see SSE are in green. The bottommost green segment has the most direct view (that's where we stayed!), and the topmost segment has a more oblique view. The middle segment has a very oblique view and though I've never been in those rooms, you may have to go out on the balcony to see SSE.

Here is an aerial photo to give you a better feeling for how BCV is related to Epcot. SSE is of course off to the north of the right side. This photo is pre-Soarin'

Cool photo! How do request those rooms at the BCV that "stick out" there and face the WS lagoon?

I honestly don't know. For me, it was just the luck of the draw. I got #461, which in the picture is at a point with a big round tree. I'd asked for courtyard view, but when I checked in at 10:45, this was all that was available, so I took it (mighty nice of me to "put up with" that view!)

Well, I have been here since Saturday....

And I don't want to leave!! I love BCV.

I haven't even been to the pool this visit. First there was that pesky hurricane and then it's just a little cool for my taste. :rotfl2:

However, I love the location. Epcot is my favoirte park and you can't get much closer...

I have one of the rooms that faces the road. Last night from my balcony on the second floor I had a WONDERFUL view of Illuminations and if I looked off to the left a pretty good view of Wishes.. My head was just turning back and forth! Pretty cool. :wizard:

Nice photo. It really shows how short the walk is from the France bridge back to the BCV rooms. Shorter than the lake to the bus stop after Illuminations especially since there is no stampede that direction. :cool1:

Our family likes SAB and loves the short walk to Epcot (although the walk to MGM is not as short as it's cracked up to be). But mostly we love the Cape Cod summer cottage theme and the barefoot ambiance of the BCV. It's not better than the other resorts, it's just what we like best.

Danthesand, I agree with this part of your post

"If one removes SAB from BCV, the interest in that resort drops 100%+"

With a slight modification

Our interest would indeed be directed to BWV - take SAB out of the equation and lets say duplicate the Evil Clown Pool so BCV has same pool as BWV, would make us choose BWV over BCV

Can't say I agree with the rest of your post and that is what makes the boards great - diverse views and opinions on the small stuff in life are great!

cheers

I've read many off hand remarks on these forums about people not being satisfied with the BCV.

Also, I just finished a trip report and at the end I put that I was going to try to get BCV 7 months out from my next trip. Well, one person sent me a PM saying they would trade me points for SSR because they dispised the BCV.

The place looks beautiful to me and is so close to our favorite park; Epcot.

Really, tell me what's wrong with the place?

Thanks!
MDF

NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. Tell that person who pm'd that I'll trade my SSR points any time for BC. We just love the place.

Hey Montana were you talking about this e-mail by chance?

In a message dated 10/26/2005 8:38:08 P.M. Central Standard Time, Aljoarwel8 writes:
I actually PM'd on your wife's Dis account to keep things appropriate. I have BCV pnts that I can trade you guys, if you want - that way you could get in before the 7 month window. I need to see what I have left (I should have done that before I posted, duh) I usually use BCV pnts up 1st, we went in June and will be going in Nov. so I think I might have used some, I'll call tomorrow and find out. We're doing the cruise next year so it doesn't matter what resort pnts I use. I have never traded before so I'm not sure what the procedure is, but I'm sure they have the system wired down over on the DVC board. We don't like BCV and don't want to stay there anymore but I understand the draw, they do have a great pool and play area for the kids. My kids are older so we usually stay at BWV (our favorite) and OKW. Hopefully we will like SSR since I'm biting on their 15% off deal, if not we can always get in at OKW and that's ok with us.

'cause I'm not seeing dispise in there anywhere :confused3

Just to clarify

In our experiences at BCV
1) The rooms we have stayed in have been in perfect condition.
2) It is a beautiful facility
3) Never a problem with the hotel employees
4) Never a problem with noise
5) The pool is always too hectic for me
6) I have never had a good experience with the pool bar
7) I dislike the entrance fence thing around the back
8) Quiet pool does not have Community Hall

We prefer BWV because
1) Love the quiet pool with the Community Hall
2) Prefer the pool bar - much better quality
3) Prefer the Boardwalk Bakery to BCV market bakery
4) Love the views

We love OKW because
1) The rooms are awesome, great windows and full size w/d
2) Great atmosphere
3) Love the pool area with Community Hall,
4) Great bar, and good fast food (conch fritters yum!)
5) Always meet really nice DVC people (a bit less touristy)

I certainly did not intend to start a BCV debate, I just kind of feel bad using BCV pnts for somewhere else. I would rather let another DVCer take advantage of the 11 month window then let WDW use that allotment for cash ressies.

No I wasn't. You didn't send that to me did you?

Anyway, the one I received was similar to the one you've posted in that the owners no longer wanted to stay at their home resort of BCV. Like you said above:

That is why I started this thread. To see "what was what" before deciding. I've already made up my mind to stay at BCV next year. Just have to get lucky now and avoid deranged BCV lovers who want me dead for starting such a forbidden thread!
