Whats wrong with Movies resort?

When you make a reservation you can book a standard room or a preferred room at ASMo; certain areas can't be booked, only requested. I hate to hear of people thinking they can request a certain location and then be disappointed or angry when they don't get it.

I assume you are referring to my post. It was the first trip we booked and the agent at Disney is at fault then for not telling my wife what you said, assuming that it is true. She requested the toy story room and was led to believe it was ours to have once we booked it. Why would we have thought otherwise??

We stayed at ASMo on our first visit, and it was great! I actually miss staying at the value resorts, because the theming is so wonderful. The only reason we stay at moderates now is because my bed-hog teenagers really need the queen bed - they've outgrown sharing a full. We stayed in the Herbie the Love Bug building, and my son LOVED playing in the fountain outside the building, but it was quite a hike to the front of the resort. If I stayed again, I would book a preferred room in order to be closer to the main building and the bus depots.

If you BOOK a preferred room what are the chances you get your bldg. request? We stayed in Toy Story last time and have requested Dalmations.

we have stayed there twice and really like it but I do prefer Music for layout and pool

There are so many posts about people requesting certain areas (all resorts) and so many other posts explaining that requests are just requests. I usually dont make requests any longer. I book the category I want and go from there. If you go on Disney's website, for ASMo the only booking categories are standard and preferred. No mention of which buildings are preferred. Web sites such as WDWINFO and ALLLEARS describe the preferred buildings as Fantasia, Dalmatians and Toy Story, but I once had a reservation CM insist only Fantasia is preferred :confused3. I think all the requests that get made are one of the reasons why the categories available for most resorts have exploded. Not a bad thing.

I totally agree the CM agent at Disney is at fault for not fully explaining, some are better than others, and they are trying to sell vacations, and make a sale.

I've stayed at ASMo 4 times, booked preferred all 4 times, requested Fantasia once and got it.

I have stayed at Pop, ASMu and this trip I will be staying at AoA.

My next trip I plan on staying at ASMo.

When I stayed at Pop, my original resort of choice was ASMo, but it was full.:sad2:

AoA lured me away this time.....:dance3:

We loved the themes of All Star movies, staying there in Feb, 2011 for our first disney vacation with the kids

Biggest problem was at check in. Wife booked the Toy Story wing (we stayed at AS Movies specifically for the Toy Story theme as our boys were huge into them at the time) and she went in to check us in as I waited in the car with the boys. She came after and I could see in her something was really wrong. I got out of the car and met her halfway and she broke down in tears. They did not have our toy story room but instead "upgraded" to the dalmation wing. Well, that is not what we wanted so I went in myself, calm, cool and collected but fully ready to get a little loud and angry if necessary. Wife had put so much effort into planning and I was not about to have our disney experience turn sour that quickly. Luckily, I did not have to get loud or ask for management cause explaining the situation and that I needed it resolved, they somehow found a room available. Daddy saved the day. I was proud of myself.

The room is small and we felt crowded but the experience was great. The pool was fine and the dining area was good enough, though we spent little time there during our 5 night stay.

The only other problem was that on last day of housekeeping (we were checking out the next day), they somehow scooped up our 5 year old's little lamb that he had slept with since he was an infant. We made sure each day we fished it out of bed so it would not get scooped up if they changed sheets. It seemed like they "knew about it" since each day when we got back they had put on the bed pillow sitting up to sort of welcome him back. Well we got back late the last night and kids were out cold. In the morning, as we packed and got ready to check out, we turned that room inside out. There was no sign of it anywhere. DS5 was already freaking out ("lambie pie" sat with him whole drive down and he was looking for it to sit with him) and it became uncomfortable quick. Wife and I assumed housekeeping had scooped it up and that maybe we didn't ensure it was not in sheets previous morning. I went to front desk but there was nothing they could do then as it would be in transit to the laundering facility. I filled out a form and returned to the car. Having to go back out to the car without it in my hand and tell him they didn't have her was about the most heartbreaking thing I ever had to do. So I drove away with all of us in tears. I called pretty much every day to check the status for a month or 2 but lambie pie never turned up.

Other than the issue in the beginning and end, we enjoyed our stay and are considering and All Star sports this time. Currently have the AoA Cars suite booked for Feb 2013 but if it not a free dining week, we will likely split stays and stay at AS Sports for part of the trip to cut costs.

I am sorry to hear about lambie:sad1: In our house we currently have a Dumbo and a Humdrum (stuffed dog)...that both of my kids have had their whole lives. I've never had a problem before with lovies going missing, but I may put them in the suitcase everyday just to be sure. You should have seen how DS cried when we had to put the dog through the x-ray machine at the airport.

yeah, I was mostly not involved in planning the first trip. She loves doing that just like the wedding, honeymoon, birthday parties, etc. I planned the drive, the packing, the food/snacks while she handled all the actual Disney details, which makes me even more surprised she didn't know that going in. But it worked out, luckily.

I am much more involved this time, since I've been there now and know what I want to do. We are spending more on the room this time so I feel like I want to be more involved and get the most out of our dollar. Hence, I've spent a lot of time on here reading opinions, etc.

Yeah, of course my wife and I blamed ourselves forever for not "securing" it better that morning. He recovered pretty well from it, thank god. After Disney, we visited my wife's mom in port st lucie and she gave him a new lamb and he took to it.

Personally, I will likely never stay at ASMo ever again. I'll start with the good things. Never, ever had a bad experience with CM's. The resort is very clean, well laid out, theming is great. The pools are great, lots of family activities and the options at the food court are very tasty.

We "requested" a king, but got two doubles, but no issue there. DW and I traveled with our extended family and DS, who was only 7 weeks at the time.

I will start by saying the rooms are VERY small. We had a pack and play, but that just wouldn't work, so we put DS rocker in between the beds. The A/C is not dedicated and doesn't give out much air, so sleep didn't come easily. The only lighf in the bathroom was broken, so it was like a strobe light at first and then died. Showering in the dark was interesting and it took them several days to fiX it. I was also not a fan of the lengthy bus wait at both the resort and the parks.

That being said, its a great value and I would stay there over off-site any day. We've already booked the next trip and we're splurging for CR. I'm just a more "creature comforts" kind of guy. But again, that as my individual experience. Its just as magical as ANY of the resorts.

I know I would have blamed myself too, however, really...you shouldn't have to secure a stuffed animal given the type of business Disney is in. Housekeeping should be very aware of that sort of thing. I had just wanted to thank you for sharing your story because I certainly learned from it, and won't assume the animals are safe. Thanks again!

I truly hope that losing a stuffed animal remains the most heartbreaking experience for all of you, but I'm afraid that life will provide other opportunities for disappointment...

That is a terrible thing to say. The kid was 5, he was at WDW, the happiest place on earth. The experience was not good, and rightfully so. A child has every right to feel upset, and while life may prove disappointing, I would certainly hope that my girls' first trip to Disneyworld doesn't end with the family crying.

Our most recent stay at ASMovies was in 2007 for a few days after a huge family gathering -- my parents sprang for a deluxe resort and when that part of the trip was over we went to a value on our dime ;)

Our DD was almost 3yo and she LOVED the theming and the splash pool. It's all super cute -- we haven't stayed at a value since, but wouldn't hesitate to stay at Movies again if the situation was right.

I 100 percent agree that is a terrible thing to say. I am 26 and I have a bear I have had since I was born, if I lost my bear I would be miserable, imagine how a child would feel. As for the family crying, you know what if my daughter was crying and heartbroken, that would be the BIGGEST disappointment of my life. My children mean the world to me, and anyone that can not see how that would be the biggest disappointment, just wow.

And as far as ASMo I think it is great, I really enjoyed staying there back in 08, and will prob be staying there again in Feb.

i'm glad to hear all the positive feedback on it, as I hadn't read much about it on here it seems to be a thread thats not updated or talked about as much as the others. We are planning to stay there in January based on the themeing alone hoping for the toy story section.

I had no problem with it besides for the food court, but pretty sure that free dining had something to do with that. The rooms were just refurbished last year.

I was being a little over dramatic to express how hard it was for me to go back to the car and tell him lambie was missing. Did I get choked up after telling him and seeing him get so upset. Of course. I love the kid with all that I am and to see him so upset hurts me too.

Was it harder than burying the only grandparent I knew for almost all my life a few years....no.

It certainly wasn't harder on my wife than her watching her little brother slowly deteriorate over 2 years before dying from a brain tumor at age 13.

But it was a hard way to the end the trip and my little boy carried that hurt for weeks. We'd be very lucky if that was worst life had to offer. Sadly, it wasn't and won't be.

Thank you to those who understood.
