Whats Wrong with Disney?

So it's come to that...Disney has to rely upon the ignorance of their customers now. Sad.

So a person who loves thrills and is having a blast on Expedition Everest is all of a sudden IGNORANT when they don't immediately go home and fill message boards with their angst because they didn't notice the Yeti wasn't working properly?!?

You people have lost your way. Seriously.

there isn't much for babies at the Harry Potter lands. Kids 8 and up yeah, they'd love it if they like the stories (books or movies or both) so Universal will likely have to wait until those 20 somethings' kids are older. But they know how to wait. Plus there are loads of Harry Potter fans who did not discover it as children.

and if you had actually seen the Yeti when it worked...you would understand why its current state is so sad. But they can't fix it without shutting the entire ride down for months and how much complaining would that cause. I can't actually blame them too much for going the "most guests won't even notice" route.

Having said that, if Disney shut down EE to fix the Yeti, people on here would go BERSERK and bash them for ruining their vacation because it's their favorite ride. They don't win either way.

Yep. All those babies of the HP generation will age into it. Hasn't happened yet...... but it's coming.

And BTW..... we LOVED Seussland!

Maybe if DAK had more than 3 rides in the park, there wouldn't be a problem

I think you know that is not what the poster meant. He(?) meant ignorant to the fact that the Yeti is supposed to do whatever it is it's supposed to do. I really don't think posting on message boards had anything to do with what he said. You know, people can actually be unhappy about something without posting it here.

Weren't you the one talking about drinking the kool-aid? Have you been eating the pixie dust?

Um, it can't be "rose-colored glasses" if I didn't know the Yeti was broken!! If I didn't know what it looked like working, how can I tell if it's broken?! I wasn't choosing to overlook it, I didn't know because I didn't spend all my time listening to other people constantly complain about pointless, little things!

And FYI - casual visitors are 90% of visitors to WDW. I know crowds might be an issue for those travelers who go only in July or on Christmas day and arrive at the park at 11:00am and stay until 5:00pm and don't make any ADRs or FPRs. Friends of mine with three girls under the age of 7 went to WDW last year under my direct supervision and had a great time! The only problem they had was overextending themselves one day because there was TOO MUCH TO DO. TOO MUCH!! As well know, WDW can be done correctly (which may be different depending on your age and touring style.)
Note the bolded: None of that has affected attendance. People might complain, but.... Well? Please explain to me why Disney is feeling ANY sense of urgency right now?

And btw, of all my first-timers who have gone recently with their kids, the first thing they say when they get home is "how can I convince my husband to go back...soon??" No one comes home moaning about crowds or broken lightbulbs or Yetis or Magic Bands.

MK averages 18-19 million visitors a year. There are 350 million people in this country. There are about 1 billion people in the Western Hemisphere. There are 7 billion people on Earth. Do you have any idea how small 19 million is compared to that? Disney has an outstanding brand that is worldwide and continues to draw people who can afford to go to their parks.
I'm glad that you know people that want to go back. Those in my circle just say that it was fun but they never go back. I have to come here to argue about the parks ;) because none of them are interested.

My point is that we might squabble about little things (and how little those things are vary depending on how rosy our glasses are) but casual visitors can certainly tell others that the restrooms were dirty or the lines were too long or the food wasn't great and so on. Disney can't become completely complacent no matter how much a rite of passage a visit to WDW has become. It will catch up eventually even if very slowly.

Uhhhhh...because that Stacy chick shoves the "working" Yeti down the throats of anyone that turns on their TV in the Disney hotel room? :confused3

Wow.... hating on Stacy's Must Dos? How low can you sink? ;)

And this should be the tag under Theme parks attractions and strategies forum!

It wouldn't matter, EE is the headliner. Shut down the headliner at any park and you would get the same whining and crying.

I agree with you but it should at least be milder at MK. Imagine shutting down a headliner at Epcot or DHS. In Epcot that would cut the number of headliners in half so I could kind of see the point of the fussing.

Which brings us back to the point if they had dropped 1.5 billion on attractions at the parks the new 3 or 4 attractions in each park would distract us while EE was being fixed.:rotfl:;)

I've never seen the yeti working in person. I would really like to. I'm disappointed that it doesn't work but that fact that they haven't fixed it doesn't bother me to any large degree. I guess it's because the reasons (if they are true) make sense to me. It would require a shutdown of the ride and they don't want to take a headliner off-line at AK.

However, what does bother me is that EVERY (and I mean EVERY) promotional video I have ever seen still showcases a fully functioning yeti.

I DO, however, find myself incredibly annoyed with the constant complainers and the "I hope Disney fails" crowd. And to these people, every Universal gain gleefully means a Disney defeat. I don't really think that they're being tough on Disney because they want and expect more from them.
Where is this "I hope Disney fails" crowd...other than your imagination? I'm not aware of anyone who things that every Universal gain gleefully means a Disney defeat. You're just making stuff up as you go along. I think the VAST majority are voicing their complaints because they do want and expect more from Disney. I have annual passes to Disney, Universal and Seaword. My Disney pass was about $500...more than double the Universal pass and about 10X what I paid for the SeaWorld one. I think I should be able to expect a little more from them and believe me, I do not want them to fail at anything because that just means less for me to enjoy.

I've seen too many contradictions for this to be true:
"Build something new NOW"
"Not THAT, something ELSE!"
"Not fast enough! Quicker!"
"Why did they build THAT? It could/should have been this, or this or this"
"So they built something...I hated it because it wasn't ___________ enough." (fill in adjective)
"I don't like Avatarland because I didn't like the movie"
"HP is so great, even if you didn't see the movies"
"Avatarland won't be great because they won't spend any money on it!"
"It cost HOW MUCH to build New Fantasyland? What a waste!"

And so on....
You probably haven't seen any of these comments and ironically, if you did, they pretty much contract your own viewpoint because none of these "quotes" you have here reflect the view of someone who wants Disney to fail...they reflect views of someone who expects more.

Not at all. If one were to subscribe to your way of "thinking" though, we'd have to question why Amazon.com puts reviews on all their products? After all, what does it matter what others think of a product as long as the consumer thinks it's adequate and doesn't see anything wrong.

I got to witness the Yeti "move" in it's first year of operation. It was pretty sweet. I say shut it down and fix it since "we" won't be headed back until Avatar opens.;)

And does the ME still have that spiel about Disney's latest and greatest attraction, Expedition Everest playing?

Agreed. But I do have an issue about "restrooms being dirty." Why is it Disney's responsibility to clean up after ADULT human beings like that?!? In other words, why ARE the bathrooms dirty in the first place? I would never just toss my paper towel on the floor or leave my bathroom stall looking like it should belong in a women's prison. Why do people do that?! If there is a trash problem, the guests are to blame...not the CMs. And in public, people are piggies!

Frankly, if I show up for the premier of an 8:00pm movie on a Saturday night at 7:55, I really shouldn't complain that there is a long line for tickets, or less than optimal seating in the theater, etc... If I leave for work at 6:30am rather than 6:00am, I really can't complain about the line of cars on the expressway. Lines are everywhere and it seems that in life we have learned to either deal with them or learn techniques to work around them. Yet people show up to WDW...the most popular theme park in the world by far... and expect to walk on every ride? I think expectations are unreasonably high for Disney World.

Quick example: I am staying for one night at the Ritz on Maui in a week or so. My friend booked it through accrued travel points, so I don't really know anything about it. I do, however, have certain expectations of what a "Ritz" in Hawai'i should be. I don't even know what that is, exactly, but I picture white gloves and a butler. My expectations might be a tad unreasonable and if I go into that particular night expecting (demanding) something that doesn't exist, it won't really be that fun of a vacation....

I went to universal solely for Harry potter. Which was awesome.
Spiderman was cool too. But other then that I can go to six flags.
I love Disney for the theming and the feel. I will go to universal to see new Harry potter park cause I love the movies. But that's it. So expensive for a one day pass.

i'll bet my hat that when avatar-land opens, EE will be shut down to fix it. maybe not the same day, but within a few months. i will gladly wait for both.

Hey I'm tough on Disney I admit it. I want to go back, however the road they are headed down isn't a good one in my opinion. I would love to see them right the ship. Been going for more than 3 decades, don't want to stop. Unfortunately the more these stupid decisions are made the less my desire to go becomes. In the meanwhile I'll sit and wait and either plan a trip to Disneyland or maybe universal.
